Hours before city officials plan to release video of a police officer shooting 13-year old Adam Toledo, Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday asked Chicago residents to withhold judgment and again called for peace. The mayor choked back tears as she discussed the city’s endemic gun violence, saying, “We can’t have that be what young people experience in our city.” “Simply put, we failed Adam,” she said during a City Hall news conference. Lightfoot recounted how, two weeks ago, “a tragedy occurred that left a child dead, a mother in mourning and a family in crisis.” “I have seen those videos...

“The Two Forms Cannot Coexist”; or, Why the Latin Mass Must Be Destroyed There is an interminable animus between the enemies of God and the Roman Mass. The study of any number of episodes in Church history will bear this out. Two manifest lessons stand forth: 1. The true Faith has a true Worship. 2. Neither are acceptable to those opposed to truth. The persecutors of the Church in every age have saved their subtlest arts and cruelest devices for the prohibition, alteration, or annihilation of the Catholic Mass – not merely the confection of the Sacrament of the Eucharist,...

VIDEOEverything was perfectly synchronized during Chinese President Xi's carefully choreographed parade a couple of years ago. And then one soldier who was wildly but hilariously out of synch ruined it all. He turned his head at least a full three seconds before he was supposed to. Hopefully, that soldier suffered no consequences but if he did, I hope this video turns his out of synch error into a popular meme that will serve to get him out of trouble, especially if that trouble meant a long stay at a re-education camp.Hey, Xi! It was funny! And he made your parade...

'But, frankly, I'm not – right now, we're back, our members – committees are working putting together the infrastructure bill and the rest,” Speaker...

SECOND WEEK OF EASTER JOHN 3:31–36 Friends, today’s Gospel declares that the Son of God does not ration his gift of the Spirit. At the cathedral in Chartres, the figure of Jesus is surrounded by seven doves, symbolizing these seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. The Messiah will be filled up with all of the powers and energies of God’s Spirit. These seven gifts have played a prominent role in our tradition, appearing in theologians as diverse as Gregory the Great, Augustine, and Thomas Aquinas. These gifts are signs...

Washington -- In predicting what we can expect to be the achievements of President Joe Biden, let us consider what his modern Democratic predecessors have achieved. There is a pattern in the president's predecessors' achievements that is revelatory. Briefly consider what they did. President John F. Kennedy entered the White House as a war hero, and he pursued the Cold War with courage and growing astuteness. He had plans for the domestic front but was not given the time to implement them. Suffice to say, he was a successful Cold Warrior. President Lyndon Baines Johnson was no war hero, but...

As hurricane season approaches, officials in deep South Texas are increasingly worried about breaches in the levee system that were created to facilitate border-wall construction, which the Biden administration has since halted. The levee was built under the 2006 Safe Fence Act to protect this delta region from Rio Grande flooding. However, the dirt levee also had been...
