Back in the 1970s, the nation of Chile embarked on one of the boldest sets of free market economic reforms in history. The government called in the Chicago Boys, as they were called, led by Milton Friedman and other University of Chicago free market economists They were given a free hand to redesign the Chilean economic system with property rights, a low flat tax, privatization of the Social Security system, and industry deregulation. In 1991, Friedman wrote that Chile now has "the three freedoms: economic freedom, political freedom, and human freedom. It will be interesting to see if they can...

“We didn’t need a preview.” So said Twobadour, one of the players behind the purchase of the all-digital work by artist Beeple (aka Charleston-based digital artist Mike Winkelmann) at Christie’s last week, when asked if he had actually looked at the lot before his company paid $69 million for it. Despite this stomach-turning auction price, Twobadour claimed that the investment was destined to appreciate in value into the future: “This is going to be a billion-dollar piece someday.” I’ll take his word for it that he knows Beeple’s oeuvre so well that he didn’t need to review all the images...

Thou shalt not disrespect another’s lived experience. On the surface of it, this would appear to be the key commandment of the woke age. A person’s ‘lived experience’ carries an extraordinary amount of moral weight in the 21st century. Public debate is built around it. Policy, increasingly, is built around it. Policy, increasingly, is shaped by it. Journalism is full of it: column after column about the lived experience of systemic racism, transphobia, misogyny, mental health. Lived experience is the moral currency of campus life. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard student activists recount their ‘lived...

Imagine having a simple tool for creating and updating your own private starter page (homepage) of favorite links on the web. If you're looking for something like that, I've built one you can download and use for free. Here's the idea behind it: Build and maintain the homepage using a simple text editor (such as Notepad++) that doesn't require you to learn HTML — just insert a few HTML tags. Deliver a private HTML page that launches from your laptop so you can quickly access your links without Big Tech's help. Enable quick search engine switching to and from...

Living a lie means denial of truth, and denial of truth requires constant vigilance to keep your tracks covered. However, if you have the authority to demand that denial, then the truth is kept hidden a little longer. In the spiritual arena, denial of truth is sinful, and the Scripture says you can “be sure your sin will find you out!” (Numbers 32:23). In fact, it is the very foundation of the unpardonable sin when the truth is known and then rejected decisively (Mark 3:28-29). In the 2020 election, the evidence of fraud and compromise is rampant—that means tremendous! Yet,...

The Bible clearly teaches that the Antichrist and False Prophet will be active on earth at the same time (during the Tribulation Period). If we are close to a world government run by the Antichrist, we are close to a world religion run by the False Prophet. If we are close to a world government and world religion, we are close to a new economic system that the Antichrist and False Prophet will use to control people. Put another way, when the Tribulation Period arrives, there will be three global systems on earth at the same time: a global political...

While the media and the Democrat Party have been touting the threat of right-wing violence to our democracy, recent poll results suggest a greater threat comes from the left. The American National Elections Studies has been conducting polls before and after presidential elections in this country since 1948. One of the questions in these polls is "How much do you feel it is justified for people to use violence to pursue their political goals in this country?" Respondents were given the following choices: "Not at all," "A little," "A moderate amount," "A lot," and "A great deal." This year's poll...

Former FDA Commissioner Says Social Distancing Mandate ‘Wasn’t Based on Clear Science’Former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said that the six-foot social distancing mandate that was employed across much of the United States and the world to deal with the CCP virus pandemic “wasn’t based on clear science.”“This six-foot distancing requirement has probably been the single costliest mitigation tactic that we’ve employed in response to COVID … and it really wasn’t based on clear science … we should have re-adjudicated this much earlier,” he said in an interview with CNBC. In the midst of relaxation of CCP (Chinese...

A Setback for the Catholic LeftIts reaction to the Vatican’s ban on blessings for gay couples has been revealing.Pope Francis has never been known to hold a strict view of documents from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). In 2016, a reporter asked him about a 2003 CDF document prohibiting recognition of gay civil unions. He replied, “I do not remember that document well.” In fact, as archbishop of Buenos Aires, he had disregarded the document’s directive and endorsed legislation in favor of gay civil unions.Another indication of his casual view of CDF documents was his advice...

The deal is an effort by Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern to capitalize on an expected increase in the flow of trade as the three countries rebound from the pandemic. Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern announced plans on Sunday to combine in a $29 billion deal that would create the first railroad network connecting the United States, Mexico and Canada. It is an effort to capitalize on the trade flows expected to run through the three countries after President Donald J. Trump signed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement into law last year. It’s also a bet on the strength...

A restaurant owner in Michigan was arrested on March 19 for defying state CCP virus pandemic restrictions and ignoring a court order, according to the state attorney general. Marlena Pavlos-Hackney, owner of Marlena’s Bistro and Pizzeria in Holland, Michigan, was taken into custody following a traffic stop for failing to comply in a civil case filed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. State officials said Pavlos-Hackney kept her restaurant open for indoor dining when it was banned, didn’t comply with capacity limits, and didn’t enforce any mask-wearing rules amid the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus pandemic. The...

BOSTON (CBS) — Boston is paying a special tribute to actor Leonard Nimoy, who would have turned 90 years old later this month. Mayor Marty Walsh is declaring his birthday, March 26, to be "Leonard Nimoy Day" in the city. Nimoy, who died in 2015, was born in Boston's West End neighborhood. He'll always be remembered for portraying the logical, pointy-eared Spock in "Star Trek," and embracing the Vulcan character's "live long and prosper" motto. Walsh wrote that Nimoy "brought honor upon his native city" with his accomplishments and "gave the immigrant, the refugee, and the oppressed, a hero for...
