On this date in 1953 — six months after the execution of a more notorious couple, the Rosenbergs — two Missouri kidnappers were gassed together for the abduction-murder of a millionaire car dealer’s son. Robert Greenlease owed his millions to a string of midwestern GM dealerships planted at the very flowering of America’s interstate system and suburbanization. Carl Hall and Bonnie Brown Heady reckoned he’d owe some of those millions to them, too. On September 28 of 1953, those two snatched little Bobby Greenlease Jr from the grounds of a Catholic school in Kansas City via the all-too-easy expedient of...

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced this week that the Office of the Secretary of State would be partnering with the University of Georgia on a statewide review of signature match in the Peach State. The partnership will help instill confidence in Georgia’s absentee ballot system in future elections. “We are confident that elections in Georgia are secure, reliable, and effective,” said Raffensperger. “Despite endless lawsuits and wild allegations from Washington, D.C. pundits, we have seen no actual evidence of widespread voter fraud, though we are investigating all credible reports. Nonetheless, we look forward to working with the University of...

The crime for which Lisa Montgomery was sentenced to death is about as horrific as one can imagine. In December 2004, she strangled a pregnant dog breeder, Bobbie Jo Stinnett, having pretended to be interested in buying one of her puppies, and used a kitchen knife to cut her baby out of her belly, whom she then passed off as her own. Montgomery had told friends and family she was pregnant, but was arrested a day later and the baby girl was returned alive and healthy to the victim’s husband. One might well conclude that no woman in her right...

America’s state and local governments should be wary of who they invite to invest in their communities. China has proven over and over that its investments come with strings attached. The line between Chinese business investment and Chinese government interference is murky. Communist China keeps a much heavier thumb on its citizens and businesses than the United States—and can compel its companies that do business in America to share customers’ personal data.By law, China requires its companies to divulge information deemed necessary for national security. And in China, national security means whatever the Chinese Communist Party wants it to mean....

Atlantic City is giving people the chance to bid on imploding President Trump's former casino in February. The Trump Plaza casino has been empty and deteriorating for the last six years. Mr. Trump opened the casino in 1984, but it was closed in 2014 and fell into a state of disrepair. Bodnar's Auction, the auction house collecting bids for the planned implosion, labeled the experience to push the button and demolish the building as a "once in a lifetime opportunity." All of proceeds from the auction will go to the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City. The city's mayor...

Former Republican foreign-policy hawk and Never Trump die-hard Bill Kristol told Politico he wants to help Democrats win a Capitol Hill battle over immigration. “Never-Trump Republicans are a small but potentially important part of the overall Biden governing coalition,” Kristol said. If Biden tries to pass an immigration bill, they could help by touting provisions popular with Republicans and moderates. “It could be ads. It could be private meetings. It could be talking to business leaders or to … members of Congress,” he said. “Never-Trumpers can help the Biden administration govern successfully.” Biden has announced he wants an amnesty for...

The Physics World 2020 Breakthrough of the Year goes to Elham Fadaly, Alain Dijkstra and Erik Bakkers at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, Jens Renè Suckert at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena in Germany and an international team for creating a silicon-based material with a direct band gap that emits light at wavelengths used for optical telecommunications. It is no exaggeration to say that finding a silicon-based material that emits useful light has been the Holy Grail of optoelectronics. Normally, silicon has an indirect electronic band gap, which means that it does not emit light. As a result, silicon must be...

Spain has legalised euthanasia and assisted suicide for long-suffering patients with incurable diseases. The Bill, which was backed by Spain's left-wing coalition government and several other parties, passed in a 198-138 vote. The conservative Popular Party and the far-right Vox party voted 'No'. The Bill will now continue its legislative journey, facing a vote in the Senate, where it is also expected to pass. According to the draft of the law approved by the lower house, it will not be put into effect until three months after being published in the government gazette. 'As a society, we cannot remain impassive...

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney is grieving over, as CNN anchor Dana Bash put it, President Donald Trump's "very firm grip on the Republican Party." Bash asked Romney whether he fears the party won't "be able to overcome Trumpism in the near future." Romney didn't object to Bash's negative characterization of Trumpism. He merely responded that he believes "Trump will continue to have a substantial influence on the party" and that those other than Trump who are rumored to be GOP presidential candidates in 2024 "are trying to appeal to kind of a populist approach." Romney concluded: "I don't think Trumpism...

This confirmation should be a mere formality. Because America knows the cheating happened. However, the staunch denials from the left put the GOP on defense. But my dad used to tell me the best defense is a good offense. Thus, the next play is on the field. Now, CBS correspondent Catherine Herridge informs us that DNI’s John Ratcliffe explained exactly where the foreign interference came from. China, Iran, and yes, you guessed it, Russia! And no, I’m not digging up bones from 2016. I’m talking five weeks ago, during the 2020 election that Democrats promote as an honest effort.

Another one of Joe Biden’s cabinet picks is being celebrated and ushered in with open arms by the media, without not a word of scrutiny. Last week, the President-Elect tapped an anti-religious bigot and abortion enthusiast for Health and Human Services Secretary, but you would never know it by how the media glowingly reported on his nomination. Similarly, yesterday’s announcement that Biden picked an Antifa-defending, radical Democrat congresswoman, who bullied and smeared the Covington Catholic students in 2019, to be a cabinet secretary, was met with similar praise from journalists. Freshman Rep. Deb Haaland (D- N.M.) was nominated for Secretary...
