A year after the 2016 election, I overheard my first conversation in which two young men of color discussed the political issues of the day. I don’t remember what they were going on about, but the fact that they were going on about politics—and with such fervor! — was what struck immediately, as young men discussing politics was a rarity in my working-class Miami neighborhood, where typically it was older men who engaged in these sometimes heated discussions. Sitting across from them at Starbucks, I noted their interaction as an entertaining anomaly and chalked it up to the current hyper-politicized...

Steelers offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva chose to cover the name of police shooting victim Antwon Rose Jr. on the back of his helmet during Pittsburgh's game against the New York Giants on "Monday Night Football.'' Villanueva chose instead to write the name Alwyn Cashe, a veteran who died during the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2005. As the NFL has allowed players to wear helmet decals honoring the victims of systemic racism, the Steelers decided as a team to honor Rose -- a Black teenager shot in the back by a white police officer in Pittsburgh in 2018 after he ran from a vehicle that was...

Pro-homosexual Bishop John Stowe justified his dissent from the USCCB by stating that 'without the environment to sustain human life, you can't have human life.'LEXINGTON, Kentucky, September 16, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Bishop John Stowe suggested last Thursday that the environment is the preeminent issues for Catholic voters to consider, not abortion. “They are both critical issues,” the pro-homosexual bishop of Lexington, Kentucky, admitted. “I think an argument could be made that … creation is the preeminent issue, because without the environment to sustain human life, you can’t have human life.” The bishop of Lexington, Kentucky, made his remarks during a...

“You have all the freedoms you need,” the liberal gal Tweeted back to me. I was shocked. Is that really how the Left thinks? She and I had been engaging in a back-and-forth debate on Election Day. Oh, I'd probably pissed her off by commenting on her “fuck trump” tweet. At least it started a dialogue. I brought up the freedoms we all enjoy as a pro-Trump argument. This was her response. I have all the freedoms I need. NEED! That was the key word. It was a fascinating insight into Liberal philosophy….as well as “a scathing indictment of the...

Has the 19th-century German composer Ludwig van Beethoven become a modern symbol of "exclusion and elitism" for rich, white men? In an article published by Vox on Tuesday that quoted New York Philharmonic clarinetist Anthony McGill, writers Nate Sloan and Charlie Harding argued that the work has been propped up by white, wealthy men, whose embrace of the musical composition stood as a symbol of "their superiority and importance." Vox is not the only left-leaning outlet pushing to examine the racial makeup of classical music composers. In July, the New York Times published a lengthy article that accused the world...

A grand jury in Omaha, Neb., on Tuesday indicted the white bar owner who fatally shot a Black man during protests for racial justice in May. Jake Gardner shot 22-year-old James Scurlock in an altercation on May 30, during a tense night of protests in the city following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Initially, after reviewing video footage, Douglas County District Attorney Don Kleine ruled the shooting an act of self-defense and released Gardner from custody. He quickly reversed course and requested a grand jury and special prosecutor review the case, saying he hoped it would restore...

“Love your enemies … hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great … He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful … Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you … For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:35-38). According to Jesus, an enemy is someone who has cursed you, hated you, or persecuted you (see Matthew 5:44). By his definition, we have enemies not only in the world, but at times...

Attorney General Barr trying to reign in the madhouse at the DOJ. :) "Name one successful organization or institution where the lowest level employees' decisions are deemed sacrosanct, there aren't. There aren't any letting the most junior members set the agenda," Barr said during his speech. "It might be a good philosophy for a Montessori preschool, but it is no way to run a federal agency," the attorney general added.

The company suddenly removes an interview with Trump’s virus adviser. ... Note that YouTube has appointed the WHO as an arbiter for what Americans can see on the platform. The WHO has sometimes been swayed by China’s Communist Party, and as recently as January it relayed Chinese assertions that there is “no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission” of the virus.

“ A bruised reed He will not break” (Isaiah 42:3). A reed is a tall stalk or plant with a hollow stem, usually found in marshy areas or near a supply of water. It’s a tender plant, so it bends easily when high winds or swift waters strike. Yet the reed can only bend so far before it finally breaks and is carried away with the flood. Like a reed in calm weather, America once stood proud and tall, full of purpose and promise. Our entire society honored God, and the Bible was held up as the standard for our...

"Stand firm therefore . . . having put on the breastplate of righteousness" (Eph. 6:14). A righteous life testifies to God’s transforming power and brings Him glory. We've seen the importance of donning the breastplate of righteousness, but Scripture also discusses the consequences of failing to do so. These consequences serve as warnings to anyone who is prone to neglect righteousness. If you're not committed to righteousness, you not only make yourself spiritually vulnerable, but also forfeit some of God's wonderful blessings. David prayed, "Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation" (Ps. 51:13). His sin had robbed him of...

Black Lives Matter activists continue to rage in the streets and inside our institutions, demanding police reforms. Many of the strategies they advocate have already been tested in the Pacific Northwest, where I live. They have proved disastrous. Consider Seattle, where it’s rare for most criminals to see meaningful jail time. City Attorney Pete Holmes, a Democrat, fails to charge on half the criminal referrals he receives, because he doesn’t believe jail works for many offenders. When he does move forward, and a suspect isn’t already in custody (many usually aren’t) he declines charges in 65 percent of the cases....

The geomagnetic storm that resulted in the disturbances recorded during the night could have affected the compasses of nearby ships, she emphasizes. “If Titanic’s compass error were only 0.5°, she would have been off her course for around 9 m over 1 km of the run. This apparently insignificant error could have made the difference between colliding with the iceberg and avoiding it..." The other impact of the geomagnetic storm upon the Titanic rescue operation was wireless communication. According to the report, the Titanic used the ship frequency of 500kHz to send distress messages, a wavelength of 600 meter but...

The latest voter registration figures from Secretary of State Mac Warner’s Office show that Raleigh and Greenbrier Counties now have Republican majorities. It is still close; Republicans outnumber Democrats by just 321 voters in Raleigh County, while in Greenbrier County there are just 78 more registered Republicans than Democrats. However, the numbers are reflective of the ongoing shift of voter registration in West Virginia from Democrat to Republican. Just four years ago, Democrats outnumbered Republicans by 7,800 voters in Raleigh County and 4,500 voters in Greenbrier County. Raleigh and Greenbrier are the 22nd and 23rd West Virginia counties where the...

FAIRFAX, Va. - Virginia’s largest school system has been hacked and the attackers are seeking a ransom payment to keep them from disclosing stolen personal information. WRC-TV in Washington reports that the internet hacking group Maze posted some of the data stolen from Fairfax County Public Schools, including student disciplinary records and grades, to prove its hack was successful. The school system confirmed the hack and said it is investigating and working with law enforcement. Unrelated, the school system reported it experienced technical difficulties Friday as students completed the first week of online schooling.
