On Aug. 29, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe informed congressional leaders that they would no longer get in-person briefings on election security because of “… unauthorized disclosures of sensitive information.” Their briefings, he said, would be limited to written, finished intelligence products. The following day, Mr. Ratcliffe explained to a television interviewer, “Within minutes of one of those briefings ending, a number of members of Congress went to a number of different outlets and leaked classified information for political purposes.” He added that his intention was to stop “a pandemic of information being leaked out of the intelligence community.”...

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Archaeologists in Mexico said Tuesday they have identified a ship that carried Mayan people into virtual slavery in the 1850s, the first time such a ship has been found. The wreck of the Cuban-based paddle-wheel steamboat was found in 2017, but wasn’t identified until researchers from the National Institute of Anthropology and History checked contemporary documents and found evidence it was the ship “La Unión.” The ship had been used to take Mayas captured during an 1847-1901 rebellion known as “The War of the Castes” to work in sugarcane fields in Cuba. Immigrants who settled in the U.S. say recent political shifts here are starting to remind them of what they left behind One of the most memorable moments from the Republican National Convention came when Cuban-born Maximo Alvarez cautioned Americans against creeping socialism. “I’ve seen movements like this before,” he warned last month. The Florida businessman is hardly alone among those who fled socialist countries. On social media and in interviews with Fox News, other immigrants who settled in the U.S. say that recent political shifts here – including class warfare, riots and language policing, not to mention calls for expansive...

The N.C. Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that the state legislature had the authority in 2018 to place two Constitutional amendments on the ballot, one capping income tax and the other calling for voter ID. However, the ruling doesn’t mean that people will have to show a photo ID when they vote this year. There are two other ongoing lawsuits where judges have found North Carolina’s voter ID law appears to be unconstitutional, one in state court and one in federal court. As long as those other lawsuits and legal rulings continue to block voter ID from going into place,...

Families actually ate dinner together, neighbors knew and cared about one another, and being an “American” truly meant something. Today, we like to think that we are so much more “advanced” than they were back then, but the truth is that our society is in the process of falling apart...
