My wife has been making cotton masks based on Joanne's online instructions. Giving them to family and friends in So Cal but with the additions of embroidery of "Long Beach Strong". I'm still working a USAF project here in FL so I asked her to make some with our Squadron # plus "Strong" and she has made a good number already. Big hit and puts smiles on peoples faces. I certainly married up!
  • Harris Poll: 77 Percent of Americans Blame China for Coronavirus Outbreak

An overwhelming majority of Americans believe China is responsible for the breakout of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new poll. A Harris Poll released on Wednesday indicates that 77 percent of respondents nationally blame the Chinese government for spreading the virus. The sentiment was echoed across the political aisle with 67 percent of registered Democrats, 75 percent of independents, and 90 percent of Republicans attributing the pandemic to China.

A widely shared, four-person-bylined, “wow”-provoking New York Times story today informs us that Donald Trump is personally benefiting from his “aggressive advocacy” of the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine because he owns stock in one of the companies that manufacture the drug. The story might be one of the most ridiculous articles published by mainstream media in the Trump era — though, admittedly, the field is highly competitive. But while knee-jerk anti-Trumpism is expected, the angry obsession over the president’s championing of hydroxychloroquine is uniquely ugly.

Virtual Study Hall is the Best Contemporary Model for True Education. "We're all homeschoolers now." Virtual Study Hall is a contemporary update, for today's conditions, of the highly successful One Room School model of 200 years past, enlarging the scope of Homeschool socialization groups to encompass the primary education enterprise itself, centering on instruction and study. Study Halls supply a vital, missing element of study progress, for students to coordinate between textbooks and instruction. (The continual demand of junior students for the teacher's attention in the open classroom, tends to limit the effectiveness of the teaching and study enterprise to...

Finally, some good Coronavirus news: the pandemic has caused the collapse of Europe’s carbon trading market. According to Recharge News: The Covid-19 pandemic has turned Europe’s carbon price upside down, with prices dropping by 40% since early March when they were still trading at about €24 ($26) per metric ton, analyst IHS Markit said. The current trading levels of between €16-18 per metric ton are roughly two thirds of the level of the high of 2019 of €29 per metric ton. “This is a perfect storm for Europe’s carbon market, and it may well lead to some challenging questions about...

For people of faith who find their places of worship shuttered because of the coronavirus pandemic, the opportunity to gather, to be greeted by smiles, waves and live human voices can feel rare and precious. On Sunday, March 29, about 30 cars filled with families — several with children and pets — gathered in a parking lot in Santa Ana to listen to the Rev. Robert A. Schuller preach from the balcony of a brown office building, as they tuned in to an FM radio station to hear his voice. His father is the late Robert H. Schuller, founder of...

Rahm Emanuel infamously said, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.” It seems some members of Congress have taken his advice. In a rush to help states that are financially struggling—or preparing for financial turmoil—as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) last month. Despite their best intentions, the fallout from this piece of legislation could be objectively catastrophic for states. Indeed, the bill worsens many of the problems it purports to solve, and Congress must act swiftly to fix it. The FFCRA offers states increased federal Medicaid dollars to help...

Tuesday on MSNBC’s “All In,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) accused Republican lawmakers have become a “cult to the President Donald Trump’s personality,” adding they were unwilling to hold him accountable. Hayes asked, “We’re in the midst of a pandemic. There have been documented systemic failures by the federal government at multiple points in this. And we just pushed out $2 plus trillion out the door in Congress for a rescue package, larger than anything we’ve seen in my life, with some oversight the Democrats fought for. And here the president has crossed out some of that oversight, saying we’re going...

NEW YORK—New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on April 8 that the city’s need for ventilators is much lower than projected. “In the last few days, we’ve actually seen fewer ventilators needed than were projected,” de Blasio said. “We expected the number of ventilators being needed being more and more going into this week. We’ve seen actually much fewer needed than we expected.” Last week, the city’s daily need for ventilators grew by 200 to 300 units as hospitals dealt with a surge of COVID-19 patients. The growth has dropped off dramatically this week, with 100 or fewer...

by Rod Thomson “If you’d like to die for the sake of the economy you go right ahead and do that. I, on the other hand, have no intention of sacrificing myself or any of my family or friends for the economy.” This common sentiment, expressed on Facebook, is the wrong formulation. It is the false equation of money or lives. It’s not only wrong, it’s deadly. Here’s how: Unemployment increases the death rate. This is a known truism among economists — who are not much en vogue right now but economics really needs to be. It turns out, this...

President Trump, in an interview on “Hannity” on Tuesday, slammed the World Health Organization (WHO) for its “China-centric” views, adding the global health agency’s projections and pronouncements about the coronavirus pandemic have been routinely wrong. One of WHO’s earliest flawed pronouncements, the president told host Sean Hannity, was to strongly recommend against the U.S. restricting travel from China. Earlier Tuesday at a news briefing, Trump said he may put a “very powerful hold” on U.S. funding to the WHO. Sen. Lindsey Graham also said that the World Health Organization (WHO) should not receive funding from the United States under its...

The coronavirus outbreak is a public health emergency that challenges our presuppositions about healthcare and calls for new and creative ways to make healthcare accessible, while protecting and promoting life. But abortion activists are falsely representing this healthcare challenge as an opportunity to increase abortion services. We’re currently confronting a problem of healthcare access. To promote social distancing, many healthcare clinics and services are restricting access to physical, brick-and-mortar locations for everything from elective procedures to routine healthcare. This is, of course, a sound decision, as it lowers the risk of infection for the sick and the healthy alike, and...

In an incident caught on video, a former Colorado State Patrol trooper said he was handcuffed in front of his 6-year old daughter on a near-empty softball field Sunday by Brighton police officers enforcing social distancing rules. The department apologized Tuesday afternoon, calling the incident an "overreach by our police officers." Matt Mooney, 33, told ABC News he walked with his wife and daughter from their home to a nearby park Sunday to play softball. "We're just having a good time, not near anybody else. The next closest person is at least 15 feet away from me and my daughter...

California Sen. Kamala Harris has made an unusual fundraising move that is sure to fuel speculation about her prospects to be Joe Biden’s running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket. Harris, who dropped out of the White House race in December, has set up the kind of arrangement with the Democratic National Committee that is typically reserved for nominees trying to attract large donations from the party’s biggest boosters. Harris, 55, will host her first virtual fundraiser Thursday under the new agreement. It allows contributors to give the maximum of $357,800, with $2,800 going to retire Harris’ presidential campaign debts...

GENEVA - The World Health Organization was on the defensive Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump blasted the U.N. health body over its recommendations on the coronavirus and threatened to strip hundreds of millions of dollars that had come from its top single donor. Some African leaders rallied around the WHO’s Ethiopian-born director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who declined to respond to questions about Trump’s specific criticisms and said, “Why would I care about being attacked when people are dying?” “I know that I am just an individual. Tedros is just a dot in the whole universe. I prefer to really...
