NEW YORK—New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on April 8 that the city’s need for ventilators is much lower than projected.
“In the last few days, we’ve actually seen fewer ventilators needed than were projected,” de Blasio said. “We expected the number of ventilators being needed being more and more going into this week. We’ve seen actually much fewer needed than we expected.”
Last week, the city’s daily need for ventilators grew by 200 to 300 units as hospitals dealt with a surge of COVID-19 patients. The growth has dropped off dramatically this week, with 100 or fewer ventilators added every day, according to de Blasio.

At the world-o-meter coronavirus site only one stat has been consistent as cases have risen.
The percentage of cases rated serious/critical has stayed at 5%. Which means the percentage of cases requiring a ventilator is under 5%.

I’ve been telling people that between my HUGE family and all of my friends, and everyone all of those people know, I don’t know of ONE person who has this.
I’ve 41 first cousins and their kids and their kids’ kids, 20 aunts and uncles and untold 2nd and 3rd cousins that I am still in contact with.
Let’s say that’s close to 200 and they know only 10 people each. That’s 2,000 people and through MANY conversations with everyone, even asking if they know someone with it or if it’s bad where they are in NYC, NONE have it or know anybody.
Now that may mean many had it but it was so slight it came and went and they never questioned it.

Even if you live in a shithole state like New Jersey, with one of the larger mortality figures, your chance of having it and being identified as having is is around .5 percent. If you knew 200 people, you should expect (if my arithmetic is right) one of them to have had the disease and known about it. But ... and this is a big but ... if you’re not one of a certain demographic, the rates are probably far, far lower. So it’s no surprise that average people wouldn’t know of anyone in their circle of acquaintance having contracted the disease.
I live in Southern California and through my wife we know of one person in Staten Island that had/has the coronavirus flu. That is the only person that I know of that has/had it. In my town of 50,000 there has been 18 reported cases and that number has not risen in like 3 days now. No deaths reported.
