Here's a timeline of Zoom's rapid rise and the security problems that have come to light. As the coronavirus pandemic forced millions of people to stay home over the past month, Zoom suddenly became the video meeting service of choice: Daily meeting participants on the platform surged from 10 million in December to 200 million in March. With that popularity came Zoom's privacy risks extending rapidly to massive numbers of people. From built-in attention-tracking features to recent upticks in "Zoombombing" (in which uninvited attendees break into and disrupt meetings with hate-filled or pornographic content), Zoom's security practices have been drawing...

Last Thursday, the scientific mastermind behind the economic carnage and spirit-crushing isolation now constituting the two main pillars of America's ingenious new public health strategy delivered some bad news. Dr. Fauci says we'll have to keep living like this until the virus is eradicated. Even if "virus" isn't his nickname for the American people, following his advice still means a long, grueling haul. The economic shutdown and social confinement oppressing us have to continue for at least the minimum estimated 18 months it will take to develop a vaccine for COVID-19. Longer, since the stipulation that our rights don't get...

The Worm was born, a decision prompted by the 1972 launch of the National Endowment for the Arts’ Federal Design Improvement Program that aimed to improve visual standards across government agencies. Danne & Blackburn’s “cleaner, sleeker” design system—complete with a full Graphics Standards Manual—aimed to make the agency’s logo more universal and versatile. The Meatball was not retired with the introduction of The Worm, but appeared in more limited contexts. Although the “simplistic, yet innovative design” of The Worm logo was initially a hit... affection for the logo had soured less than a decade later. At the suggestion of Langley...

MILAN - Fiat Chrysler and unions are discussing plans for beefed-up health measures at Italian plants to pave the way for most profitable production to restart as soon as the government eases a national lockdown, unions said on Wednesday. An extension of a national lockdown due to expire on April 13 cannot be ruled out, but recent coronavirus data allowed growing confidence that the virus was on the retreat in Italy. Measures proposed by FCA’s unions include rearranging assembly layouts, staggering shifts, and marking floors to ensure a one-meter distance is kept between workers, FIM representative Raffaele Apetino said, adding...

Standing on an outdoor stage and the promise that a church is not its building, Pastor Will Breedlove invited the people of Henderson’s Harriett Baptist for services Sunday morning in the parking lot of a drive-in movie theater in town. And whenever the words of his sermon moved their spirits, the people honked their vehicle horns and said, “Amen.” “I just wanted to be able to gather and keep people safe,” Breedlove said before the 11 a.m service at the Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre. His earlier service, at 9:30 a.m., drew a full house under the current rule: no more...

Situated on mount Parnassus in central Greece lies the city of Delphi. While the city now is mostly ruins, for over a thousand years the ancient world referred to it as the Center of the World. Millions from around the ancient world would flock to the city to inquire of the Oracle. To a select few, the Oracle would sit in the temple of Apollo and give prophecies or answer questions of business, trade, and war. Alexander the Great was said to have visited the Oracle to inquire as to whether he would conquer the world. While modernity can scoff...

VIDEO Every weekday evening, Chris Cuomo appears on CNN to talk about his illness in great detail. However, the one thing he won't discuss is what everybody is wondering about: Is Fredo taking Trump Pills? The absolute absurdity of Fredo not addressing this issue has been highlighted by the fact that his own brother, Governor Andrew Cuomo, is now talking about the use of hydroxychloroquine and has revealed that he has heard positive feedback about it. To highlight the ridiculousness of Fredo not revealing whether or not he is using hydroxychloroquine aka Trump Pills, this video counterposes Fredo on...

Marc Morano's personal note: "I have known Fred Singer for almost two decades. He was as kind as he was brilliant. He had an encyclopedic acknowledge of people, facts, institutions, and science. I was honored to be his friend and attend Fred's 95th birthday in the fall of 2019. In 2018, Craig Rucker and I presented Fred CFACT's 2018 'DAUNTLESS Purveyor of Climate Truth' Lifetime Achievement Award. Owning a gun is like keeping a spare tire in your trunk, a first aid kit at home, or an emergency savings account. We hope never to use them, but weÂ’re glad we have them The social and economic uncertainty surrounding the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic has Americans understandably concerned about their personal safety. In March 2020, the FBI reported the highest monthly number of firearms background checks ever recorded: 3,740,688. Compared to March of the previous year, Americans bought 1.1 million more guns in a single month. Ammunition is also flying off the shelves, with sales in some states increasing...

Our delayed response to COVID-19 has been rash and driven by fear, not data. This may end up costing us double because health depends on many factors. As we learned in the aftermath of the 2008 market crash, economic shocks have a direct impact on public health. The United States experienced a historical decline in life expectancy due to an epidemic of deaths of despair. In a matter of months, people lost their jobs, lifetime savings, and their homes. A strikingly similar situation is happening now. Fact is a public health and stable economies go hand in hand. But in...

Something that Dr. Michael Ryan, epidemiologist and executive director of the World Health Organization’s Health Emergencies Program, said in a WHO virtual news conference March 30 could be a harbinger of a Big Brother approach to fighting COVID-19. When asked whether it is more effective to quarantine in place at home or centrally to contain a virus, Ryan said the only way to contain the virus during a home quarantine would be for officials to start knocking on doors.
