Standing on an outdoor stage and the promise that a church is not its building, Pastor Will Breedlove invited the people of Hendersons Harriett Baptist for services Sunday morning in the parking lot of a drive-in movie theater in town.
And whenever the words of his sermon moved their spirits, the people honked their vehicle horns and said, Amen.
I just wanted to be able to gather and keep people safe, Breedlove said before the 11 a.m service at the Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre. His earlier service, at 9:30 a.m., drew a full house under the current rule: no more than 50 people total, with church volunteers in orange vests directing traffic to park only in every other spot.

I agree. Why not? That way you can wear your pajamas. Just kidding.
A drive-in theater type Church service is a great idea but no getting out of your car to get a hot dog.
This is how the Crystal Cathedral in California got started. Robert Shuller held services on the grounds of a drive in theater at the beginning of his ministry.
Oh. And Trump could have a rally this way.
This used to be very common in CA. Too bad most of the Drive Inn’s are gone.
“Robert Shuller held services on the grounds of a drive in theater at the beginning of his ministry.”
Yup. And after the Crystal building was built, I think they still had a place for people to park and listen from their cars.
Or in the church parking lot with an amplification system should be fine.
One of my brothers and I have speculated about the idea of some drive in movie theaters reopening. Maybe even some investors are thinking about this.
Another great option....My son & daughter in law’s church has been holding services in the open field next to the church. The field is big enough to keep everyone a safe distance.

Communion?
If your Governor allows it.
They'd have to get rid of Daylight Savings Time first.
We used to have one near me years ago where you could park in what was once a field and tune-in to a free AM station to hear the sermon given from the front porch of the church.
Excellent idea!

In the mid 70’s a church in the Kendall area of Dade County put up drive-in movie speakers in its parking lot to handle the congregation overflow.
And here I was thinking just last night... let’s bring back the drive-in to go watch movies. And catchy jingles like let’s all go to the drive-in sung by a dancing trio of a bucket of popcorn, a coke and a candy bar.

My church does this summer and recently started doing it because of the Convid lockdown.
I will be attending Easter services this Sunday in my car. Better than nothing and a way to keep the church going during these times.
