March 16 2020 Monday of the Third Week of Lent Reading 1 2 Kgs 5:1-15ab Naaman, the army commander of the king of Aram, was highly esteemed and respected by his master, for through him the LORD had brought victory to Aram. But valiant as he was, the man was a leper. Now the Arameans had captured in a raid on the land of Israel a little girl, who became the servant of Naaman’s wife. “If only my master would present himself to the prophet in Samaria,” she said to her mistress, “he would cure him of his leprosy.”...

China, Russia and Iran are flooding the global information space with false claims about the new coronavirus, according to U.S. officials, who say one of the biggest lies — that the virus that causes COVID-19 is a U.S. bioweapon and was brought to China by U.S. Army personnel — is just the latest in a “surge of propaganda” aimed at undermining America’s image on the world stage. Beijing, Moscow and Tehran are using a vast web of social media accounts, fake news outlets and state-controlled global satellite media to promote false claims by academics and, at times, government officials to...

Two New Jersey homeowners are being fined by their condominium association for placing an 18-inch-tall figurine of the Virgin Mary on their porch. Thomas More Society Special Counsel Christopher Ferrara is representing Mary Jeanne Vassallo and her co-owner in what he describes as a “clear cut case of religious discrimination in housing.” On March 7, 2020, the not-for-profit, national public interest law firm sent a demand letter to the managing agent of the condominium association and the association’s board members seeking appropriate resolution on the owners’ behalf. “I am confident that we can prevail on the claims in this...

Accompanied by Laurie David, activist and wife of comedian Larry David, the pair have been criss-crossing the country in a biodiesel-powered bus spreading the word on the bathroom hygiene of...

He continued: “It’s required that they have representation now. It’s long...

WYCKOFF, NJ — Six-figure salaries are no longer uncommon for educators in New Jersey. Including in the Wyckoff School District where several teachers make more than $100,000 annually. That is according to an annual list of teachers that make that amount and their exact salaries for 2018, a list the state Department of Education released recently. The list barely had any teachers on it more than a decade ago. It's also a small fraction of the more than 100,000 people who teach in public and charter schools in this state. But the highest earners also come from all different schools...

In order to make his policy proposals perfectly clear, presidential candidate Joe Biden has announced, "The Biden Plan to Advance LGBTQ+ Equality in America and Around the World." He should have titled it, "The Biden Plan to Restrict Religious Freedoms in America and Around the World." Or, "The Biden Plan to Undo the Freedoms Secured Under President Trump." The cat is out of the bag.

WASHINGTON -- Public health and national security experts shake their heads when President Donald Trump says the coronavirus "came out of nowhere" and “blindsided the world.” They've been warning about the next pandemic for years and criticized the Trump administration's decision in 2018 to dismantle a National Security Council directorate at the White House charged with preparing for when, not if, another pandemic would hit the nation. “It would be nice if the office was still there,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Health, told Congress this...

You see, it was all part of an extracurricular Skills USA competition and with over 100 hours worth of work invested in the piece, she was a frontrunner for first place. Hayden was knocked for her use of the Chevrolet logo on the truck's grille, which is apparently a no-no. This caused judges to deduct 50 points from her overall score, putting her in second place.

The coronavirus is dominating the news, but it is difficult to know what to believe. Some think the danger is understated, and others think it is overstated. I am 80 years old with respiratory issues, and I would really like to know the truth. Dr. Ben Carson, a member of Pres. Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force, said it “has the potential to be severe.” The key word is “potential.” I take that to mean the threat is not great, but the threat could become great. So, it is a tough call, God is in control, and we are in his hands....

Those with a functioning memory may have thought that last week’s decision by Saudi Arabia to maximise oil production to crash oil prices and bankrupt U.S. shale producers was an early April Fool’s Day joke. Apparently, though, it is not, and collective amnesia seems to have gripped senior Saudis and other OPEC members alike about how disastrous the last Saudi Arabia-led attempt to destroy the U.S. shale oil industry from 2014 to 2016 actually was. Appalling though the consequences were last time for Saudi and its now-much-poorer allies, this time around things are likely to be much, much, worse. The...

On Friday, the Iditarod announced that mushers would not be stopping in the village of Shaktoolik, a key source of shelter along the notoriously stormy Norton Sound, and would instead pick up their drop bags and straw at a hospitality stop outside town — without shelter, water, food or volunteers. The village had voted that, in light of the spread of COVID-19, they didn’t want outsiders coming in at this time. They have to protect their elders, and other vulnerable people, from the risk of infection. The decision was not made lightly. A century ago, the Spanish influenza epidemic left...

It’s the Democratic presidential debate: Coronavirus edition. Sunday night’s debate is keeping former veep Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders at a safe distance amid the deadly pandemic, with the two men debating each other from lecterns placed six feet away from each other. In fact the two candidates eschewed the usual handshake when they took the stage in DC, instead exchanging an elbow bump.

Through personal conversations, and by listening to statements from politicians (federal, state, local, and international) and media pundits, it is apparent that very few people, if any, are prepared to think through the implications and consequences of what we are facing today. The purpose of this article is to provide some context, insight, and – modestly – foresight into the current crisis created by the coronavirus (aka Covid-19, aka the Wuhan virus). The next two to three months will be a period that we have to go through all together, and will come out on the other end changed. This...
