(PA-Rat)Gov. Tom Wolf claims expansive powers as coronavirus crisis deepens

Wolf has shut down schools in Pennsylvania, put counties in lockdown, and said he could even order businesses to shutter their doors. Such are the powers the Democratic governor has since declaring a disaster emergency on March 6.

HARRISBURG — In the space of a week, Gov. Tom Wolf has shut down schools statewide, put four counties in lockdown, and directed businesses to temporarily close their doors to customers.

And if coronavirus cases continue to multiply, the Democratic governor could also limit travel, order evacuations, and even commandeer private property to cope with the public health crisis.

Just curious, are Republican governors granting themselves such powers? I wouldn't be surprised, given that's what politicians do - grab power, but I'd like to think our side is better than that

Sounds like this Guv is having a nice power-trip fantasy.
How does he think he will enforce this?
How many cops will just “Follow Ordeeers”?

How quickly we will find out that Governors will find that Hotels/Motels will make great permanent homes for the homeless? In WA state they are commandeering them for people who are quarantined because of exposure. If they can do that and not be found to be in violation of the Constitution, how far will they push it? Of course the high cost ritzy places will NEVER be used in such a manner.

Enough to make stupid sh*t happen.

Wolf has been having wet dreams over this moment for years.

I’m in one of the locked down counties. I don’t know if I’m infectious or not, but I and everyone I know drive all the way to the counties that are not locked down for my goods and services.

How does this locking down help? I would think it would be very counter productive.

I don’t think there are anywhere near enough law enforcement personnel to enforce this kind of silliness.

I look at it the same way “snow emergencies” are enforced. The State government doesn’t want millions people traveling around and mingling with each other. They can’t enforce 100% compliance with a total lockdown, but if 80% of the population abides by an order to stay at home then that’s probably good enough.

By tomorrow or tuesday I expect most all of the GOP govs to cave to the hysteria. Most sit down restaurants in the country will have closed dining rooms. Then after that gyms, parks, etc. Drip, drip, drip. This is psywar.

I don't see how it does. I absolutely do not like the idea of some government flunky, governor or not, making decisions for me. (I accidentally insulted a fellow Freeper last night writing something similar. So sorry in advance to any government employees out there.) No government employee knows my situation or yours better than we do ourselves. I do not want our freedoms and liberties to be limited in anyway. It does not improve our security, and never has. This virus should not be an invitation to grab power.

Given all that, I have some serious personal decisions to make. I've been operating as usual up to today, but I am chronic anemic and have end stage kidney failure. I definitely have a compromised immune system. I'm thinking about locking down other than dialysis and doctor's appointments. I should note, those are my decisions, not the government's. I'll listen to people's advice, but I do not want be told what to do or not do by some government flunky.

I am not a doctor, but as I understand it, the big fear is that we start seeing cases of Wuhan virus being transmitted from person to person in this country. Obviously limiting the chances of person-to-person contacts is going to help to slow down the spread. This method appears to have been successful in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore. Obviously we should be emulating them as opposed to say Italy or Iran.

A state governor during a declared emergency has power that rivals Xi of China.

They can do pretty much whatever they want and there’s virtually nothing anyone can do about it.

Until long after the fact when/if you get to a higher court. Even then, the court is likely to rule in their favor.

NJ either has issued or is considering a statewide curfew. Some cities already ordering you stay in your home after 10pm.

What the hell is that? They are using this to enact total control.

It is a part of total control. Their game plan is for you to get used to and to feel all warm an secure. Then they can control you some more. It been happening since that bastard Wilson was president.

We’re in lockdown as well. Mostly people are going along with it, and it is definitely quieter with lower traffic volume. Yesterday we saw kids playing basketball in a local park, but now the courts and playgrounds are also closed. The reports out of Italy are sobering. The word went out about liquor stores closing Tuesday, so they were stripped bare by a swarm of customers on Saturday. People seem to be keeping a sense of humor and there are plenty of doubters. If he overplays his hand many will remember it. If he is slowing down the contagion and keeps our health systems from being swamped, that too will be remembered. I’m not a supporter of the governor, but in this case I’m giving the benefit of the doubt.

I live in upper Bucks County. I was out and about today and saw nothing closed. Big lines at the beer store as I drove by (when it first opened) but hardware store was open, staff there told me traffic was normal in the store. Stopped at the beer store later in the day and it was normal. Local CVS was normal too, lots of food on the shelves. Got prescription filled in 15 minutes. Stopped at local restaurant and got takeout (because I had to get home, not because dine-in was banned), staff there told me business was normal. Don’t believe everything you read in the press.

Anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, who thinks they can stop me from going about the business I must to earn a living is in for a rude shock as I will not comply.
If they close the roads I have the means to circumvent them.
Doubt they can shut off power to the entire town, too much refrigeration and folk on medical devices.

This paranoia needs to end NOW!
The actual number of cases is closer to zero than significance in most area’s.
