The main threats are in East Africa and Yemen, as well the Gulf states, Iran, Pakistan and India. Most recently, locusts have been seen in the Democratic Republic of Congo and swarms have arrived in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar and along the coast of Iran. According to reports, China is ready to send 100,000 ducks to its border to devour the insects, telling the birds were “biological weapons,” capable of eating more than 200 locusts a day (chickens can ‘only’ eat about 70 locusts in one day.

From The White House In our times of greatest need, Americans have always turned to prayer to help guide us through trials and periods of uncertainty. As we continue to face the unique challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, millions of Americans are unable to gather in their churches, temples, synagogues, mosques, and other houses of worship. But in this time we must not cease asking God for added wisdom, comfort, and strength, and we must especially pray for those who have suffered harm or who have lost loved ones. I ask you to join me in a day of...

Grace and peace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Your letter, sent to me at Wittenberg, was received some time ago. You wish to know whether it is proper for a Christian to run away from a deadly plague. I should have answered long ago, but God has for some time disciplined and scourged me so severely that I have been unable to do much reading or writing.1 Furthermore, it occurred to me that God, the merciful Father, has endowed you so richly with wisdom and truth in Christ that you yourself should be well qualified to...

On January 31, 2020, I issued Proclamation 9984 (Suspension of Entry as Immigrants and Nonimmigrants of Persons Who Pose a Risk of Transmitting 2019 Novel Coronavirus and Other Appropriate Measures To Address This Risk). I found that the potential for widespread transmission of a novel (new) coronavirus (which has since been renamed “SARS-CoV-2†and causes the disease COVID-19) (“SARS-CoV-2†or “the virusâ€) by infected individuals seeking to enter the United States threatens the security of our transportation system and infrastructure and the national security. Because the outbreak of the virus was at the time centered in the People’s Republic of China, I suspended...

James S. Brady Press Briefing Room 12:19 P.M. EDT THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. We just completed a very good meeting of the Coronavirus Task Force. And we — we’re really — they’re really doing a great job, our professionals. The results are very — very, very good. And when you compare this to what’s happening around the world, we’re very proud of our people. And there’s been a tremendous amount of coordination with states, with cities, and they’re a little smaller form of government, and they have things going well. They’re coordinating with us. And certain, in particular,...

We can’t flee from it. The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread around the world without sign of stopping. Global markets are shaking. The Dow Jones Industrial Average sank over 3,000 points in the last week. The media coverage vacillates between issuing public warnings and scoring political hits. The disease might affect the upcoming presidential election; we might be reeling from the effects of COVID-19 for years to come. From all appearances, we can’t escape the disease or its consequences. To be clear, most of us will not die from COVID-19; it is not a new bubonic plague. Of 100 infected...

rA banner reading "memento mori" hangs over a winged skull on this grave marker in the Old Granary Burying Ground in Boston, 18th century. As much of the world reacts with hysteria to the COVID-19 plague, Catholics continue our journey through Lent. Indeed, the two events coalesce very appropriately. Lent is a penitential season when we are meant to reflect on our life and remember the inevitability of our death. Few things help to focus the mind on this topic more effectively than a deadly, fast-spreading viral outbreak. We should recall that in the past our ancestors suffered through numerous plagues...

For most Americans, 1973 was marred by shortages. In the year’s first few months, the stock market crashed and lost over 45% of its value -- one of the worst declines in history. In October, an Arab oil embargo sparked an ongoing crisis that saw gas rise from $3 per barrel to nearly $12 per barrel. Quietly, the U.S. spiraled into a period of economic stagnation and malaise it hadn't seen since the Great Depression (albeit, much less serious). Gasoline, electricity, and onions were heavily reported as goods and services that were in limited supply, and Americans cultivated a “shortage...

[Catholic Caucus] Are Bishops who Suspend the Public Mass Blazing a Trail for the Antichrist? Doctor of the Church St. Robert Bellarmine said one of the signs of the Antichrist is suspending public Mass: "[S]ure signs concerning the coming of Antichrist... the greatest and last persecution, and also the public sacrifice (of the Mass) shall completely cease." (The Prophecy of Daniel, Pages 37-38) Are bishops who suspend public Masses blazing a trail for the future Antichrist? Pray an Our Father now for the restoration of the Church as well as for the Triumph of the Kingdom of the Sacred Heart...

Double postings of items of interest are common. Most of the time, folks here do check before they post. If it is a newly reported item - once one has checked to make sure it is not posted - it takes time to make a new post. Some of us here are slower than others. Usually because we want to verify, clarify, and check the story over all. To those that are quick to jump with condemnation, please consider this, you are no better than the media that rush to publish a story without verification.

A top Ohio health department official who said Thursday that 100,000 or more people in the state have coronavirus now says she was “guesstimating” to arrive at the alarming number. “I am not saying there are absolutely for certain 100,000 people,” Dr. Amy Acton, the director of the Ohio Department of Health, said at a press conference Friday. “I’m saying I’m guesstimating. If I’m guesstimating community spread, that’s my best number.” Acton raised eyebrows Thursday when she said that because there is community spread of coronavirus in Ohio, at least 1% of residents in the state are likely to have...

On Saturday, Georgia became the second state to postpone its primary elections amid growing concern over the spread of the Wuhan virus. Louisiana announced earlier this week that it would be moving back its primary as a result of the coronavirus. Georgia's primary, originally scheduled for March 24, will now be held on May 19. "Events are moving rapidly and my highest priority is protecting the health of our poll workers, their families, and the community at large," Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In fact if I were Trump, I’d call in all the big box people, Walmart, Costco etc and tell them to tell to immediately develop *temporary* policies where the panicked and greedy can only have two cases of water per person or 3 bottles of hand sanitizer, etc...No more BS where ya see people rolling out with 3 full baskets of tissues, water, sanitizer etc. I’d put of quick stop to that nonsense.

“Everything we do, we're in the moment.” the Star quoted Perez as saying in a published article Thursday. “We're hustlers.” The paper reported observing Ranga and Perez outside a Costco store near downtown Vancouver loading the back of their Ford F-150 truck with stacks of Lysol disinfecting wipes. Their purchase reportedly left Costco with an empty shelf. DOJ WARNS COMPANIES AGAINST PRICE FIXING DURING CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK Ranga said that a six-pack of wipes, which might sell for $20 at Costco, could fetch four times that online, according to the paper. When reached Friday after the Amazon suspension, Ranga said he...

TUESDAY, March 10, 2020 (HealthDay News) -- Lesbian, gay and bisexual teens are far more likely than their straight peers to suffer physical and/or sexual violence, new research warns. The warning stems from surveys of nearly 29,000 teens, aged 14 to 18, conducted in 2015 and 2017 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Overall, LGBQ teens (lesbian, gay, bisexual and teens who are questioning their sexuality) face roughly twice the risk of physical violence compared with straight youth, the surveys revealed. And that risk can come from a romantic partner -- or anyone else.
