Felony charges were filed Monday against a 25-year-old man accused of stealing a Lincoln Navigator hearse with a woman’s body inside from in front of a church in East Pasadena. James Juarez pleaded not guilty to one felony count each of fleeing a peace officer’s vehicle while driving recklessly and driving or taking a vehicle without consent. A Chinese court has sentenced Hong Kong bookseller Gui Minhai to 10 years in jail for "illegally providing intelligence overseas". Mr Gui, who holds Swedish citizenship, has been in and out of Chinese detention since 2015, when he went missing during a holiday in Thailand. A local nonprofit is repurposing city garbage cans as storage units for homeless people. The green cans were originally intended to be used for a city compost program, but the program eventually tanked, leaving the city with hundreds of unused cans.
