Dear John: I’m 93 going on 94, and a combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War. I am alone. My wife is gone and my children are all married, but help as often as they can. I went to the Capital One office in Nutley, New Jersey, to cancel my account. The representative wanted to help me keep my credit card. I said “no,” but he kept putting words in my mouth. I said “cancel.” I made no charges, and paid off the amount due prior to the visit. It keeps charging me interest, etc. L.K.

A large Turkish military convoy rumbled into rebel-held areas of northwest Syria on Sunday, witnesses on the ground and activists said. Separately, airstrikes on a rebel-held village in Syria’s northwest killed at least seven people, opposition activists said. Elsewhere, rebel shelling killed a woman and wounded at least three journalists, Syrian state TV reported. The violence and troop movements came amid a Syrian government offensive into the country’s last rebel stronghold, located in Idlib province and parts of the nearby Aleppo region. Turkish troops are deployed in some of those rebel-held areas to monitor a cease-fire that has since collapsed....

One of the most beloved country duets of the 1980s, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard’s “Pancho and Lefty” is among the 2020 inductees to the Grammy Hall of Fame. This No. 1 hit, recorded in 1982 and released in 1983, was written by Townes Van Zandt, who appears several times throughout the video. (That’s him at the one-minute mark.) Nelson and Haggard had never heard the song until Nelson’s daughter, Lana, suggested it. At a time when music videos were brand new, with CMT and TNN both debuting in 1983, this cinematic clip helped propel the captivating story song to...

For some voters, a single issue does much to spur them to either accept or reject a politician's entire platform. Where a candidate stands on hot-button topics, which can include gun control, climate change, or funding our military, matters. Unsurprisingly, abortion is one of the most divisive subjects carefully weighed by the engaged members of the electorate. The Democratic Party collectively favors abortion as a "woman's right to choose." To them, the issue is one that concerns the personal freedom of a woman. On the other hand, the Republican Party is largely against abortion. For the GOP, abortion is about...

The Wuhan coronavirus spreading from China is now likely to become a pandemic that circles the globe, according to many of the world’s leading infectious disease experts. The prospect is daunting. A pandemic — an ongoing epidemic on two or more continents — may well have global consequences, despite the extraordinary travel restrictions and quarantines now imposed by China and other countries, including the United States. Scientists do not yet know how lethal the new coronavirus is, however, so there is uncertainty about how much damage a pandemic might cause. But there is growing consensus that the pathogen is readily...

Post #28. With so many rats running for president in 2020 it's hard to keep up with who's in and who's out. Hopefully, this post will help. The big moment went viral on social media Thursday when Benny Johnson shared footage of the moment on Twitter. Take a look: Needless to say, Clark’s good natured swag caused a mass triggering of liberal SJWs across...

... [E]ven the brainiest sometimes need a lesson in common sense. That’s exactly what the bursar at St. John’s College—the most richly endowed college at Oxford—delivered when he responded to students occupying his 15th-century quadrangle and refusing to leave until the college divested its oil-company shares. The students want the college to sell the more than $10 million of its endowment now invested in Shell and BP, and they want it now. The Times of London reports that bursar Andrew Parker made them a counteroffer. “I am not able to arrange any divestment at short notice,” he wrote. “But I...

Tennessee would officially consider both CNN and The Washington Post to be “fake news” outlets under a resolution proposed by a Republican state lawmaker. Introduced Wednesday by Tennessee state Rep. Micah Van Huss, the bill would “recognize CNN and The Washington Post as fake news and condemn them for denigrating our citizens,” according to its language. “I’ve filed HJR 779 on behalf of a constituency that’s tired of fake news and Republicans who don’t fight,” Mr. Van Huss said on social media. “Over 60% of Tennessee voters voted for President Trump, and CNN and The Washington Post denigrated them for...

NRA members, gathered at the Great American Outdoor Show, responded to Bloomberg by explaining that he has no say in the way they exercise their Second Amendment rights, especially when it comes to defending their own lives. A black NRA member observed, “Mike Bloomberg is a white billionaire who has no place in telling me how I can defend myself or my loved ones.” And a mother named Ashley Boop flatly rejected Bloomberg’s push as well. She said, “As a mother of three-year-old little boy, my family means everything to me. As a woman, I believe the best way to...
