The kneecapping of the Houston Astros went off Monday in exquisite fashion. Big names were fired. Draft picks were revoked. A record fine was levied. Pounds of flesh were exacted from egregious cheaters. The optics worked. The Astros' comeuppance was here, and it was severe. Major League Baseball was righting an obvious wrong. As the day rolled on and people around baseball pondered exactly what had happened, a less obvious version of the story emerged. It was all so tidy, all so clean, so carefully orchestrated and meticulously calibrated -- like something the Astros, ever lauded for their efficiency and...

President Donald Trump was "verbally and emotionally abusive" toward Kirstjen Nielsen when she was the secretary of homeland security, according to a new book by the Washington Post reporters Philip Rucker and Carol Leonnig. An excerpt of the book first published by The Post said Trump "made fun of her stature and believed that at about five feet four inches she was not physically intimidating." The president reportedly told others that Nielsen was "so short." Trump would tell Nielsen, "Kirstjen, you're just not tough enough," and say she didn't "look the part" of homeland security secretary, the book reported, according...

Democrats were perplexed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision not to name independent Rep. Justin Amash one of President Trump’s impeachment trial managers. Pelosi instead selected seven Democrats, including Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), resisting a campaign by at least 30 House Democrats who asked Pelosi to pick the former Republican from Michigan. Democrats who pushed Amash argued his selection would give the appearance of bipartisanship. And her decision was derided by critics as a “missed opportunity.”

Former Obama national security adviser General James Jones (2009-2010) isn’t going to make Democrats happy with what he has to say about the dangers Iran presents and what he thinks about President Donald Trump taking out IRGC Qasem Soleimani. Many Democrats have been pushing the talking point that there was no real reason to take out Soleimani, this despite all his past killing of Americans and the attack on our embassy in Baghdad. The Democrats even tried to handcuff the president’s actions with a War Powers resolution, although it’s symbolic only. It’s an astonishing position to take, especially after...
