Kabul (AFP) — European Union officials called Sunday for a ceasefire in Afghanistan, saying the breakdown in talks between the US and the Taliban presented an opportunity to push anew for a truce. US President Donald Trump last month declared talks with the insurgents “dead”, citing a Taliban attack that killed a US soldier. Negotiations had been in the final stages for a deal that would have seen the US pull troops from Afghanistan after 18 years in return for various Taliban guarantees.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been one of the most vocal critics of President Donald Trump’s decision to move U.S. troops out of northeastern Syria, said on Sunday he now believed “historic solutions” were possible. In an interview with Fox News Channel, Graham said a conversation he had with Trump over the weekend had fueled his optimism that a solution could be reached where the security of Turkey and the Kurds was guaranteed and fighters from Islamic State contained. “I am increasingly optimistic that we can have some historic solutions in Syria that have eluded us...

The headline below tells us a lot more than the Democrat partisans at the Washington Post intended. After two weeks of closed-door testimony, a clearer portrait of Trump's role emerges How does closed-door testimony tells the Washington Post and its readers anything? By leaks, of course. So a "clearer portrait" is being painted by leakers with the agenda of damaging President Trump. There is no pretense of presenting a full picture that would include information that would not support the Democrats' agenda. As Ed Lasky commented, "Pelosi, Schiff & company are controlling the narrative via leaks. This is repulsive." Lauri...

As a kindergarten student in 1977, I set out every morning into the vastness of North Toronto. Having been ditched by my older brother at the first hill (he had a reputation to maintain), I would join dozens of other neighbourhood kids on the migration to school. We walked – or biked – not to be virtuous or to make a statement or to get a sticker when we got there, but because it was the obvious thing to do. A generation later, this seems like pure nostalgia. According to Ontario’s transit agency Metrolinx, the percentage of 11- to 13-year-old...

For Chelsea Clinton, America just isn't good enough. Here's her talking about her mom and the country whose voters rejected her, in an appearance on The View, finishing up with not wanting her kids to be exposed to such a place: “I am so proud of my mom. I’m very biased toward her…love her very much and feel very protective of her, although I know she doesn’t need me to be. But, really my most important role now is as my kids mom. You know I have a daughter Charlotte who just turned five last week, a son Aiden, he...

Cardinal Schönborn says he allows women to preside at funerals in his diocese October 19, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Vienna archbishop and leading Amazon Synod participant Cardinal Christoph Schönborn has given permission for women to preside at funerals in his diocese, he said in an interview with Vatican Radio. This week, Pope Francis personally appointed Schönborn to the committee that will write the final synod document. One of the proposals being advanced at the synod, most forcefully by the Portuguese language groups, is that women in the Amazon region should be “ordained” to the diaconate. More modest, if equally novel,...

Headline: Hurd: No Ukrainian officials have told State Department 'they felt like their arms were being twisted' Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said Sunday that during the committee’s depositions of State Department officials, it had yet to hear from Ukrainian officials who believed there was a quid pro quo relating to aid to Ukraine. “What we haven’t heard from any Ukrainian official that felt like there was this arrangement … we haven’t even had a Ukrainian official tell a state department official that they felt like their arms were being twisted,” Hurd, a former...

Numbers have jumped in recent years, according to the Florida Department of Children and Families Refugee Services, which administers the federal funds for the incoming refugees. In 2011, Florida took in 27,204 refugees; last year, 48,816. In the Tampa Bay area, DCF has contracts with four designated agencies to serve refugee populations with federal funds (each incoming refugee gets $1,125) and services upon arrival: Lutheran Services, Catholic Charities,...

File under 'Dumb': Kamala Harris asserts she knows Rudy Giuliani committed crimes, but has no idea whatPearls, suits and heels aside, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris may appear to be smart, but reality shows she's actually very dumb. How else to explain this one from softball political interviewer, Anderson Cooper of CNN? ~snip~ Harris said Giuliani “has clearly broken many laws,” adding that his actions are “further evidence of corruption” by the Trump administration and that they violate an “extraordinary number of rules and ethical laws.” When Cooper asked Harris what specific laws she believes Giuliani has broken, the senator...

During the conversation Senator Graham told Judge Jeanine that we can expect another 9-11 style attack if we leave northern Syria. Judge Jeanine: How long should we be there? Senator, how long should we be there? Lindsey Graham: The day ISIS surrenders call me. We should be there as long as there’s a threat. I’m not asking for an endless war, Judge. I’m just trying to be smart here… Judge Jeanine: So how long have the Kurds and the Turks been fighting? Lindsey Graham: Well, do you remember 9-11? Yeah, how long has it been? Yeah, Ok! I think you...

Former Obama administration adviser Van Jones accused Hillary Clinton of smearing presidential hopeful Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii) "with no facts." Clinton accused Gabbard, an Iraq War veteran, of acting as a "Russian asset" on Friday. Jones dismissed Clinton's criticism as a "complete smear" that spread "disinformation." "She's playing a very dangerous game," he told CNN. "Hillary Clinton, if you're concerned about disinformation, what the Russians do is they spread disinformation, they get us divided against each other. That is what just happened, just throw out some information, disinformation, smear somebody." The failed 2016 Democratic nominee accused Gabbard and 2016...

Fox News legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano, who of late has been the poster child for the increasingly leftward tilt of the network touted as "fair and balanced," and who believes that President Trump is guilty of colluding with the Russians to affect the 2016 election and of pressuring Ukraine to investigate a political opponent, insists that the inquiry by Rep. Adam Schiff is perfectly legal because there is no requirement in law that a vote to conduct such an inquiry be taken. As he states in an article in the Daily Herald: The due process Trump seeks — notice,...

Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) stalwart loyalty to President Donald Trump is starting to see more cracks as Trump doubles down on his decision to pull U.S. troops out of Syria. Graham, who’s been railing against the decision for more than a week, appeared on the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) on Wednesday morning to blast the consequences of the U.S. leaving the Kurds to deal with Turkey and ISIS detainees in Syria on their own. “I am looking to President Trump to change this,” the Republican senator told CBN host Pat Robertson. “I will do anything I can to help him,...

Senate Republican anger with President Trump over the pullout of American troops from northern Syria is so fervent that it could weaken the intensity of support he needs to avoid conviction in the Senate after an expected impeachment by the House. Trump’s hold on the GOP base is a critical reason why few, if any, Republican senators are likely to vote to remove him in the event of an impeachment trial. But GOP operatives with relationships in the Senate say Republicans are so disgusted with the president’s moves in Syria, it could discourage otherwise sympathetic lawmakers from voicing a robust...

A congressional candidate, who is endorsed by the same progressive group that backed Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) in 2018, recently called to disarm police officers. Jamaal Bowman, a New York City congressional candidate endorsed by Justice Democrats, has proposed taking guns from police officers in American cities. "It’s time to disarm the police," Jamaal Bowman wrote on Twitter before retweeting one user's response that police in the United Kingdom "carry no guns" and thus have "killed no citizens." Bowman, a Bronx middle school principal, is challenging incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel (D., N.Y.) in New...

We’ve reported on states changing laws to allow felons to vote. Then you’ve got California releasing murderers because it “feels right” to give them another chance. Now, in another sign that the inmates are running the prison, the governor of California has approved “The Right to a Jury of Your Peers”. It’s a move that will allow people with a prior felony conviction to serve on juries in California for the first time. Prior to this, there was a law in California that excluded felons from jury service. Local media backed the legislation ... The state Assembly approved the legislation...

Trump Derangement Syndrome appears to be keeping Barbra Streisand up at night. In the early hours of Saturday morning, the 77-year-old singer Tweeted out a cartoon image depicting President Trump being impaled by an oversized, high heel shoe worn by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Attention Secret Service! What makes Streisand's tweet especially comical is the singer's tweet just this month, stating Trump's "modus operandi is cartoonish violence."
