Forecast: 55 mph wind gusts and a temperature drop to start the week [no power shutoffs]
Colorado Springs Gazette ^ | 10/20/2019 | Terry Terrone

"The week starts off with a blustery Sunday as the National Weather Service forecast predicts a windy day, with wind speeds averaging between 25-35 mph most of the day. Wind gusts as high as 55 mph are possible. The Pikes Peak region can also expect a temperature drop."

actually, forecast is now 65mph gusts in some places on the Colorado Front Range (which isn't unusual, btw).

BUT Xcel and other Colorado electricity providers NEVER shutdown our power when it's windy for some reason ... apparently such wind shutdowns are a unique feature of the People's Republic of California for some strange reason ...

California evidently has heat in the form of power lines, and fuel, dry foliage. Same for Colorado?

Any supposedly aberrant weather is now headline fodder for climate change.

Meanwhile, in other climate news -

Sunspot activity remains low.

About those sunspots;
EARTH TO COOL DOWN WARNS GEO SCIENTIST

2007 The US MAT.Com

Scientific reports from Canada and Greenland has indicated that the the shrinking arctic ice sheets have begun to replace themselves rapidly. Strongly suggesting the earth instead of warming, is beginning to cool down. It is still not known (or proven) if this is the result because of the reduced rate of sun spot activity.

Canadian geo scientist Professor R. Timothy Patterson of Carelton University is urging a go-slow on the rush for governments to “Play God” with global warming legislative blaming this on CO2 (carbon dioxide) discharges. Legislating corrections attempting to control a natural cyclic occurrence caused by; sun spots, the magnetic solar wind, and cyclic earth magnetic polarity reversal, among other natural occurrences including volcanism, meteors etc. Probably plays a very significant role in climate change. Yet ignorantly blaming man made CO2 emissions for climatic change. which is becoming a rapidly discredited and minuscule cause of global warming in his article published by Canada’s Financial Post. 6/20/07

Patterson was selected by the Canadian government to study the fluctuations in certain types of fish populations.
While doing so the Canadian Geo-Scientist found a correlation when certain species of fish had high population and then drastic drop offs. He discovered these fluctuations corresponded with sun spot activity and solar radiation vs cosmic activity. When earth cooling occurred.

Studying deep fjords along the Western Canadian coast where deep pools of low oxidation water exist. The Patterson study reached deep into the earths recent past of 4000 years of undisturbed sediments. Patterson found that when aquatic activity was highest and lowest in those collected sediments having high aquatic content had matched known solar protection when the magnetic wind was highest, and dropped off when earth magnetic fields activities were lowest. Thus causing cosmic radiation to intensify.

Then because the earth became unprotected by its magnetic fields from galactic cosmic activity. Patterson cites several accepted theories which concludes this then created cloud activity during such periods which increased drastically. Thus cooling earth and bringing in its ice ages.

In his presentation here is a professor urging more scientific study (like Pope Benedict)is needed. That politicians including Al Gore, of The Earth Is Flat Society, don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. Strongly suggesting that the global warming may be caused by exhaling politicos rather than serious scientific examination.

Patterson seems to be saying before Canadians start investing in palm trees they should be considering better parkas because what goes up must come down and the Mexicans better move over for a reverse population flow. The story was featured in The Drudge Report, and World Net Daily, which were linked in The US Mat’s last page. But lost due to source link changes . http://www.theusmat.com/index.htm

In October. In the mountains. Has this ever happened before?

I live in the Colorado forest. No worries about power lines here. Kali is liberal so they can’t even keep the power on.

Two weeks ago, on a day that temp was usually 55-60 degrees, I had 5.2 inches of snow in my yard.
All the neighbors laughed about global warming.

I’m not laughing now, I’m freezing.

Colorado used to allow people to go into the forest (public lands) to cut dead wood...with a permit for wood stoves. I don’t know whether or not that’s still the case or not.

Forest fires happen there too but its more from lightning than anything but human error happens too.

It’s horribly expensive to have power lines run into your property as in 10’s of thousands of dollars for even a short distance. Electricity doesn’t exist everywhere for every one.

Thanks for reply PrairieLady2.

Does Colorado have wind that makes lightening fire spread faster?

In the East, when the winds get up to 75mph, it’s called a hurricane.

In Colorado, when the winds get up to 75mph, it’s called “Tuesday”.

I can attest it’s a bit breezy on the Front Range today. And cool.

I seem to remember some Colorado Freepers telling dumb Californians like me, that they never lose their power in over large areas.

PrairieLady2: "Forest fires happen there too but its more from lightning than anything but human error happens too."

Amendment10: "Does Colorado have wind that makes lightening fire spread faster?"

Lightning can be a problem, but I have a confession. A couple years ago hunting elk on the Eastern Slope, it got so cold one night that our campfire froze. We tried everything we could to thaw out the fire, but nothing worked. After a few days the hunt was over and we left.

In the Spring, that doggone campfire thawed out and started a brushfire. I felt bad, but didn't think anyone would believe us.

Once, shooting prairie dogs out on the Plains to the East, there was a lightning storm on the Front Range, zapping everything from Pike's Peak to Cheyenne Mountain. The wind was coming off the mountains so hard it blew lightning 30 miles east.

The dog colony we were shooting at was under perfect sunshine, but the lightning struck the whole patch of ground and the wind ripped it right off the earth into the sky.

There were stories of barbecued prairie dogs falling on Oklahoma for a week.

But nobody eats those.

;)

LOL!

Yeah, we get brutal winds here at ~10K ft in the mountains. 50+ mph is not uncommon.

Read a Scientific American article about sunspots a while back. The first half was informational, the second half a climate change screed, but the closer was the big facepalm moment.

Basically said the only way to tell if sunspots had an effect on climate was to stop all carbon emissions and see what happens.

“I seem to remember some Colorado Freepers telling dumb Californians like me, that they never lose their power in over large areas.”

we don’t have our power deliberately shutdown on purpose just because winds are a bit high ... ever ...

of course, like may places, severe weather events such as massive blizzards, floods, tornadoes, etc. can actually destroy electrical infrastructure ... but that’s a whole different ball of wax than power being shutdown for millions just because of a bit of wind ...
