HONG KONG (AP) - The U.S. government on Thursday stepped up its warnings to travelers to Hong Kong because of increasing violence surrounding pro-democracy protests in the Chinese city. The State Department’s Level 2 travel advisory issued Thursday urges “increased caution in Hong Kong due to civil unrest” and tells travelers to avoid demonstrations and to “exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.” The protests were sparked two months ago by proposed extradition legislation that could have seen suspects sent to mainland China where they could face torture and unfair politicized trial. They have since...

Mika Brzezinski has taken to an ugly new level the liberal media's accusations against President Trump in the wake of the weekend's mass shootings. On today's Morning Joe, Brzezinski actually accused the President of wanting such mass murders to happen: "Isn’t it okay to deduce that at this point this is what he wants? . . . I mean, this is a President who seems to want these things to happen. How else can this be explained?” Here's the transcript of the exchange: MSNBC Morning Joe 8/6/19 6:39 am EDT EUGENE ROBINSON: There could be another Oklahoma City bombing, you...

From of MSNBC's 'Hardball' with host Chris Matthews: MSNBC national security analyst Malcolm Nance: These people feel that they are the foot soldiers and executors of what the disenfranchisement that the white race is feeling and Donald Trump is giving them subliminal orders in their head. They are no different than the mobilized, self-starting, self-radicalized terrorists of ISIS. It's just that they have a permissive environment in which they can get firearms and go out and attack their perceived enemies.

Former Clinton pollster Mark Penn weighed in on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's power and influence to get 'The New York Times' to update a headline about President Trump's statement on the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio. Penn told FOX News host Tucker Carlson: "To actually bend after it is printed to a political faction is to cave in a way that I think will haunt them for some time to come." "The paper wanted to please a constituency and they weren't willing to stand behind their own headline and were then willing to change for that constituency," Penn said. "That...

Liberal mega-donor George Soros made some big bets during the last U.S. presidential election. One was that Hillary Clinton would win the presidency. Another was that he could reshape Ukraine’s government to his liking, and that his business empire might find fertile ground in that former Soviet state. So when Donald Trump’s improbable march to the White House picked up steam in the spring of 2016, Team Soros marched to the top of the State Department to protect some of those investments, according to newly released department memos providing a rare glimpse into the Democratic donor’s extraordinary access to the...

UPDATE: Joe Lauria went to NZ "a few months ago" (before the Mueller report came out) and recorded a 4 hour interview with @KimDotcom. Three segments can now be heard on Consortium News here at 46 mins, 1:14 mins and 1:39 mins. I transcribed the main bits from the first part, and pretty much everything in parts two and three. They are added at the end of this post. We're not supposed to talk about Seth Rich any more. Even though his murder remains unsolved. Even though there's still no firm proof he WAS or WAS NOT a WikiLeaks source....

We’re living in strange times. “Morality” used to be a set of behavioral dictates not too dissimilar to the Ten Commandments. But these days, the rules are a bit more complex. Sometimes, it seems, one of the most offensive things someone can do is be born. On Wednesday, Hollywood actress Rosanna Arquette — whose Twitter profile notes that she “[resists] fascism on a daily basis” — apologized for her skin. And her birth. She’s sorry for it. And disgusted with herself. And ashamed of herself for doing it. Waaay more advanced than “Thou Shalt Not Steal.”   Her tweet...

LaPierre told Trump that endorsing tougher background checks--which the president has reportedly done in private since the February 2018 massacre in Parkland, Fla., that left 17 dead, would not be popular with his voter base...Trump told an audience in Dayton on Wednesday that there is an “appetite” for such checks...if Trump supports his bill that expands these checks — and red-flag laws...Republicans who otherwise would not support the legislation, would be covered politically by the president.

Twitter locked accounts belonging to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's and several prominent conservatives Monday, after they posted videos of left-wing protesters gathered outside McConnell's Kentucky home -- with one demonstrator calling for someone to stab McConnell "in the heart" and for McConnell to break his "raggedy" neck. The episode prompted the McConnell campaign, known as "Team Mitch," to slam Twitter for political bias, saying the social media platform had effectively blamed the victim. Meanwhile, observers noted, Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro remains active on Twitter, even after he posted the names of San Antonio residents who donated to Trump. “This...

The head of the House Judiciary Committee appears to be preparing to call members of his panel back to Washington, D.C., from their August recess to oversee a markup of gun violence legislation following two deadly mass shootings, sources tell The Hill. Nothing has been set yet, according to three Judiciary sources, but they say things appears to be in motion after the committee held a members-only phone call early Wednesday afternoon to discuss the prospect of returning to the beltway in order to address the renewed and heated debate over the nation’s gun laws.
