Some of the usuals anti-gun suspects in the Senate have proposed new legislation that would ban suppressors following a shooting in Virginia Beach, Va., in which the perpetrator a handgun fitted with the device. But the problem is, this particular accessory is already one of the most regulated by the federal government. The Help Empower Americans to Respond (HEAR) Act is being introduced by Democratic Sens. Bob Menendez (NJ), Dianne Feinstein (CA), Richard Blumenthal (CA) and Tim Kaine (VA), all of whom claim — wrongly — that suppressors are ‘silencers’ in the true sense of the word and that as...

New Science Uprising Episode Counters the “I Suck” Principle David Klinghoffer | @d_klinghoffer June 24, 2019 Materialists share a tendency to want to degrade human beings and our place in the cosmos. In a sane world — maybe it’s out there somewhere in the multiverse — there would be a psychiatric diagnosis for this.As celebrity “Science Guy” Bill Nye has put it, “I’m a speck on a speck orbiting a speck among other specks among still other specks in the middle of specklessness. I suck.” The fourth episode of Science Uprising is out now, and it addresses the poisonous “I...

Several years ago, I had a shoulder injury, and the doctor told me I might need surgery to fix the small tear in my rotator cuff. So, I asked, "Doctor, if I have this surgery, about how much will it cost?" He looked at me confusedly and said, "Steve, I've been doing these surgeries for 20 years, and you are the first patient to ever ask me what it costs!" Then he thought about it and laughed: "I don't know how much this will cost you." Wow. Health care is one of the most expensive items we buy each year,...

The values that allow advancement in a society are often described as "Western values." They are not "Western," "Chinese," or "Catholic." They are universal values and no more "Western" than 2 + 2 = 4.

The newlyweds moved out of Kensington Palace this spring amid reports of a rift with Prince William and his wife Kate, whose joint Royal Foundation with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was also broken up last week. The 6.5 Creedmoor rifle cartridge has been around for a while now and very popular among long range competitive shooters. This caliber is also effective for hunting as well. As a matter of fact the 6.5 is gaining rapid popularity. With its mild recoil and long range accuracy this caliber can compete along the lines of other long range cartridges such as the .308. Anyhow, the 6.5 isn't new. The 6.5 caliber has been around since 1891. Orginally, produced for the Swedish military, hunters in Europe quickly found it to be great on game. Winchester came out with the .264...

How does a liberal know that her open-borders arguments are a bust? When even David Frum — David Frum! — has to step in. On the Monday edition Ari Melber's MSNBC show The Beat, New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay made a two-pronged argument in favor of allowing countless Central Americans to enter the US: One, violence is rampant in those countries; and two, in any case, people should be admitted who are fleeing "domestic violence."Frum eviscerated both arguments. First, he pointed out that — contrary to Gay's claim of unchecked violence — the homicide rate in Central...

It's like, really, we need all the religion we can get around here! What with Americans -- you know -- perpetually at each other's throats, yelling in each other's faces. But we get another reminder, at the feet of the Supreme Court, of the difficulties attendant on expunging nastiness from national life. Our highest court had to instruct us, 7-2, it was no violation of our national principles to leave unmolested a large cross of marble and granite commemorating on public land in Maryland the deaths of local soldiers in World War I. We need learned jurists to tell us...

This month’s 50th anniversary of Stonewall, the Greenwich Village uprising that launched the modern LGBT movement, was always going to be complicated. What may seem like a straightforward chance to celebrate progress actually masks a fault line that has divided our movement since its start: whether our goal is equality or liberation, a fight for the right to be treated like everyone else or the freedom to be authentically ourselves. Do we seek belonging in the world as it is (including the military, marriage and parenting) or the chance to transform the world, by throwing off repressive norms, into a...

A Massachusetts rabbi is urging his congregation to bring their guns to Shabbat — claiming their thoughts and prayers are not enough to save them during a mass shooting. “We can’t think, ‘I’m just praying, and God will save me,’ ” said Rabbi Dan Rodkin, of Shaloh House in Boston, in an interview with WBUR. “No,” he told the radio station, “we need to take care of situations ourselves.” Rodkin points to the country’s recent rise in domestic extremism and hate crimes over the past few years as his reasoning for making such a demand — the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting,...

Amazon announced Tuesday that its annual Amazon Prime Day will actually run for two days this year, starting at midnight PT on July 15. Last year, Amazon sold 100 million products during Amazon Prime Day, even though a glitch caused servers to go offline. Amazon said last year’s Prime Day was its biggest ever, which means it’s plausible this year could be more successful since it runs longer. Amazon’s own products have been bestsellers. Last year, the Fire TV Stick, Echo Show and Echo Spot were among the top-selling products.

ISLAMABAD: An international detergent brand has come under fire for an advertisement questioning gender stereotypes in the conservative patriarchal country, with critics denouncing the company for allegedly insulting Islam. The commercial for Ariel soap, owned by US-based Proctor & Gamble, calls for women to break free of conservative norms and pursue careers. In the ad, several women representing different professions - including a journalist and doctor - are seen pushing dirty sheets hanging on a clothesline off the screen. The sheets are printed with common refrains used to reinforce the oppression of women in Pakistan, including the question “What will...

Congressman Louie Gohmert (TX-01) released the following statement today regarding the undercover video of Google released by Project Veritas: “This video shows Google’s biases are now a threat to a free and fair election, all while they hide behind the immunity given by Congress years ago when they were supposed to be a simple ‘town square’ where everyone’s voice could be heard without biased results. In fact, Google references a significant role they see themselves fulfilling in the 2020 elections. This discovery should set off alarm bells throughout the country. It is no secret that Google has a political agenda....

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem (Old Testament) 1 Kings 16 Ahab Becomes King of Israel 29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria over Israel twenty-two years. 30 Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of those before him. 31 He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him. 32 He set up...
