Group stops debate of proposed law on House floorAUSTIN, Texas (ChurchMilitant.com) - The Texas legislature's LGBTQ caucus is taking credit for blocking a religious freedom bill in the state last week. Also known as the "Save Chick-fil-A Bill," House Bill 3172 would have protected business owners with publicly stated religious opinions from adverse government action. For example, the CEO of the fast food chain is an acknowledged critic of same-sex marriage as well as a frequent donor to organizations that promote traditional Christian marriage. Because of these strongly held positions, the San Antonio city council refused to issue permits that...

Some witnesses and their attorneys assert that Huber’s appointment a year and a half ago was meant to silence Republicans while shielding the Obama administration FBI and Department of Justice officials from true scrutiny. ‘At the time, people wanted a special counsel, but Jeff Sessions announced he brought in Huber and people said, “OK, we got Huber on it,”’ said former Justice Department prosecutor Victoria Toensing. ‘But it was a head fake.’ Toensing now works in private practice and represents a Uranium One whistleblower and FBI informant Doug Campbell. Neither Campbell nor Toensing have been contacted by Huber, despite Campbell’s...

Enough gold, uranium and other heavy elements about equal in mass to all of Earth's oceans likely came to the solar system from the collision of two neutron stars billions of years ago, a new study finds. If the same event were to happen today, the light from the explosion would outshine the entire night sky, and potentially prove disastrous for life on Earth, according to the new study's researchers. Recent findings have suggested that much of the gold and other elements heavier than iron on the periodic table was born in the catastrophic aftermath of colliding neutron stars,...

Sen. Kamala Harris pledged Sunday that she will pursue executive action on gun control measures if Congress fails to act in the first 100 days of her presidential administration. “I’m proposing, one, that if by my 100th day in office when elected president of the United States, if the United States Congress fails to put a bill on my desk … then I’m prepared to take executive action because that’s what’s needed: action,” Harris, a California Democrat and 2020 hopeful, said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals. We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese. Less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), and a Parliament of owls. Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? . ....

President Trump said Monday he’ll win re-election in 2020 fair and square and pledged not to use dirt dug up from foreigners on his opponents. “Well, I never did use [it],” the president replied, alluding to Russia’s meddling in the 2016 campaign. “As you probably know, that’s what the Mueller report was all about. They said, ‘No collusion.’ ” He was asked about foreign intervention during a public appearance at the White House with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. “And I would certainly agree to that,” he said, of pledging not to rely on foreign help. “I don’t need it....

President Trump may get the chance to turn the federal courts in Manhattan conservative. Last week, he added two more judges to the 13-judge US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit — making the balance seven liberals to six conservatives. Soon, he will get to add two more. Circuit Judges Christopher Droney and Dennis Jacobs have announced they would be retiring in June, thus allowing Trump — who has vowed to nominate only conservative judges — to add two more of his own picks to the court. The Manhattan appeals court took the first step toward a conservative takeover...

Attorney General William Barr has appointed a U.S. attorney to examine the origins of the Russia investigation and determine if intelligence collection efforts targeting the Trump campaign were "lawful and appropriate," a person familiar with the situation told Fox News on Monday evening. John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, will conduct the inquiry, the source said. The move comes as the Trump administration has pushed for answers on why federal authorities conducted the surveillance -- as well as whether Democrats were the ones who improperly colluded with foreign actors. Two sources told Fox News earlier today that Barr was...

Researchers from the US Smithsonian Institution and King’s College London argue for preserving seven-eighths of the solar system as official 'space wildernesses.' This regulation would protect planets, moons and other bodies from unchecked mining and other types of industrial exploitation. But its core aim would be to ensure that humankind's expansion into our star system is undertaken manageably to avoid a future where all the resources are gone. … It will be challenging to decide which aspects of our star system should be protected from the space mining industry, the researchers wrote in their paper. However, areas that might merit...

... In the weeks before they were ousted last month, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and top immigration enforcement official Ronald Vitiello challenged a secret White House plan to arrest thousands of parents and children in a blitz operation against migrants in 10 major U.S. cities. According to seven current and former Department of Homeland Security officials, the administration wanted to target the crush of families that had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border after the president’s failed “zero tolerance” prosecution push in early 2018. The ultimate purpose, the officials said, was a show of force to send the message that the...
