The initial record-setting dive took took place on April 28 when American, Victor Vescovo, a retired U.S. Navy officer, made a solo dive to the bottom of the ‘Eastern Pool’ of the Challenger Deep, reaching a depth of 10,928 meters (35,853 feet deep) and setting a new world record for the deepest dive by any human in history.

How's the fishing down there?

They did take a picture of a McDonald’s cup or something like it!
OMG! The horrors! (Says AOC.)

I'm curious about that too. How can you go down there without some giant fish hooks baited for a big catch? Of course, if something is down there you might become the catch.

The will be a documentary to keep an eye out for later this year. Can’t wait to see what they saw down there.

I understand there are a few small, odd fish down there, but little else. Some have electroluminescent organs to provide light in that total darkness.

Not much in the way of fishing ... some odd shrimp-like critters, though.

Exactly! Really fascinating, one of the last unexplored places on earth.

Victor Vescovo sounds like a very capable guy:

Can you imagine going down there alone????? He has guts!!
But how cool to be the first see what’s that far down there with your own eyes.

I just saw the earlier thread about them finding some trash and thought, “Come on! There had to be more interesting things and THAT’S what you report?”

I hope they don’t make that the main issue in the documentary. If they go that route, channel change.

Did they penetrate the thermocline that had the Megalodon imprisoned?

(Jaws on steroids)

Years ago on the Discovery channel (or similar) there was a show about how they use the old sub tracking microphone systems around the world to track whales and such.

At the end of the show they had a cool compilation of the sounds and the marine biologist (no - not the Seinfeld guy) explaining it.

” ***** “ That is a pair of blue whales off the coast of California.

” xxxxx “ That is a pod of orcas off Vancouver Island.

Some of the sounds are pretty odd sounding.

The last one he put up was REALLY weird sounding. Sounded part electronic, part biological. Like some cheesy monster from Star Trek. But it sent a shiver up my spine.

“That is deep in the _____ trench off the coast of India.
.
.
.
“We have no idea what that is.”

I’ve tried to find it on youtube, but can’t.

The will be a documentary to keep an eye out for later this year.

I Hope it won't be ruined by injecting politics like National Geographic did with Hostile Planet.

It’s a possibility since they’ve already brought up the fact that a little trash was seen down there.
I’ll give ‘em a chance but the TV remote will be at hand, just in case.

I wonder how many people on here know something about or have been on NR-1 (not in the same class as these others), Sea Cliff, and Turtle. I’d guess more than in most places you might visit online.
