It’s one thing to publish an editorial denouncing Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump; any news outlet can do that, and plenty have. It’s another to get almost two dozen leading conservative thinkers to write essays arguing against the Manhattan billionaire’s nomination and agree to print them under a single banner: “Against Trump.”

An upstate New York village has decided to change its official logo Friday weeks after residents decided to keep it despite critics calling it a racist emblem. Whitesboro’s logo appears to show a white man choking a Native American. A non-binding vote earlier this month saw residents vote 157-55 to not change the current seal. A timetable for a new seal has not been determined. Village officials and members of the nearby Oneida Indian Nation will meet to discuss the creation of a new image, Mayor Patrick O’Connor said

But so far, the party is not doing much to stop Trump. Instead, it is making such an effort against Cruz. Consider: The governor of Iowa, Terry Branstad, said he wanted Cruz defeated. Bob Dole warned of cataclysmic losses if Cruz was the nominee, and said Trump would fare better. Mitch McConnell and other Republicans senators have been decidedly unhelpful to Cruz when discussing his constitutional eligibility to be president. An anti-Cruz PAC has formed, with plans to run advertisements in Iowa. (By contrast, no PAC advertising has run against Trump so far in January.)

Today I join some 20 other writers in making the case against Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy. The venerable National Review, founded by William F. Buckley, Jr., assembled a group of diverse critics to argue that Trump is not a conservative, not an advocate of limited government, but rather (as the editorial asserts) “a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.”

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)'s campaign has cancelled almost $1 million worth of TV-advertising in the Hawkeye State, just one week prior to the state's first-in-the-nation caucus. Rubio also cancelled around $125,000 in paid advertising in New Hampshire, which votes on February 9th, eight days after Iowa. Rubio has been advertising extensively in both states since December.
