The European Court of Human Rights has set an interesting predcedent for workplace internet use by ruling in favour of a company that accessed its employees personal online communications. Most Germans now doubt their country's ability to cope with a record migrant influx, and fear refugees more, after the New Year's Eve mass assaults on women in Cologne, opinion polls released Friday show. But now it's becoming increasingly possible for big winners to hide their identity, and lottery executives are trying to strike a balance between ensuring privacy and safety while still proving to the public that real people can win. Jackpot winners "get a big old target painted on their backs," said Andrew Stoltmann, an Illinois attorney who has represented winners. Channel 2 Action News has learned that the Cobb County Police Department will discipline a police officer accused of telling an African-American driver he didn't care about "your people." Jojo, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's explosives-detecting K-9, died when he choked on an object lodged in his throat, his handler said Friday, Jan. 15. Jojo died Jan. 6 while searching a warehouse, Detective Brad Phillips wrote in a letter on the department's Facebook page. Phillips suffered the amputation of his right pinky finger in trying to dislodge the object. The cause of death and amputation had not previously been announced.

DALLAS (CBS11) – The political question whether Texas Senator Ted Cruz can be President may now become a legal drama, too. Houston attorney Newton Schwartz filed a federal lawsuit against Cruz asking the judge to declare the Republican presidential candidate ineligible to become President. “Just real simple. A one sentence ruling. He is eligible and is natural born citizen or he is not a natural born citizen.” Schwartz said the Supreme Court hasn’t defined what a natural born citizen is.

U.S. stocks closed sharply lower Friday, locking in the worst 10-day start to a calendar year ever, as oil prices plunged and investors worried about slowing growth in the U.S. During the course of the session, the S&P 500 broke below its Aug. 24 low—which several market strategists said would be tantamount to a major sell signal—to trade at its lowest level since October 2014. For me, the most interesting part of the most recent debate was the part where he seemed to indicate that he couldn't ask Cruz to be Vice President until he dealt with the citizenship issue, which could derail an otherwise pleasant association.
