At the beginning of every year, the Pope delivers an address in Rome to welcome the foreign diplomatic corps accredited to the Vatican. Pope Francis, a nice guy, has just delivered such a speech. It deserves attention. The main theme of Francis's speech is immigration, the mass movement of peoples, now this way and now that, for "mobility is part of our human nature" and "human history is made up of countless migrations." True enough. But Pope Francis neglects to discuss what is for some of us so disturbing about the current migration into Europe: the numbers and nature of...

Vice President Joe Biden sat down for an interview with CNN's Gloria Borger on Monday to continue the Obama administration's anti-gun publicity tour promoting the president's latest unconstitutional executive orders regulating firearms. Said Biden, "People who are criminals shouldn't have guns. People who are schizophrenic and have mental illnesses shouldn't have guns." But that's not what the Second Amendment says. It says: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The exchange began when Borger asked Biden: "So does Bernie Sanders...

A new video has just been released in which Pope Francis very clearly expresses his belief that all of the major religions are different paths to the same God. He says that while people from various global faiths may be "seeking God or meeting God in different ways" that it is important to keep in mind that "we are all children of God". This is the most recent example that shows that the Pope has completely abandoned any notion that a relationship with God is available only through Jesus Christ. As he has done throughout his papacy, he continues to...

PEORIA - It's s a staggering number - 1,500,000,000 - and one that has continued to grow as Powerball aficionados and neophytes alike have bought tickets for the largest lottery prize in American history. But what, exactly, will your $1.5 billion buy you? To start, assuming you take the lump-sum payment as many people do, rather than annual payouts over 29 years, your prize is projected to be a mere $930 million. Then you pay taxes. Take off 39.6 percent for the maximum federal rate and 3.75 percent for the current Illinois income tax - a total of $403.1 million,...

Why Feminism Failed Cologne's Women A feminism in thrall to the left is one of the biggest threats to women. January 12, 2016 Daniel Greenfield Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. Big Feminism, fresh from fighting pitched battles against swimsuit posters in European subways and other phantoms of "rape culture", failed the women who were attacked by violent Muslim migrant mobs in Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg who were the products of an actual rape culture dating back to Mohammed's injunction to his men that Muslim women must...

This is the full text of Enoch Powell's so-alled 'Rivers of Blood' speech, which was delivered to a Conservative Association meeting in Birmingham on April 20 1968. The supreme function of statesmanship is to provide against preventable evils. In seeking to do so, it encounters obstacles which are deeply rooted in human nature. One is that by the very order of things such evils are not demonstrable until they have occurred: at each stage in their onset there is room for doubt and for dispute whether they be real or imaginary. By the same token, they attract little attention in...

What is this thing called a liberal education that we're always hearing about -- and some of us never tire preaching about with your more than kind indulgence? It is an education fit for liberty, but please, no drums, no buglers. No stirring slogans but thoughtful language that opens windows to civilization, not tyranny. Languages, like people, have their rises and declines, periods of growth and stagnation, like real people -- not cardboard constructs. They disappear and reappear at sometimes the most surprising intervals -- whole ages or in sudden spurts. Call it the verbal theory of value. Just open...

Yesterday, Leon posted on the epic gutlessness of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus to say that Ted Cruz is a natural born citizen as understood under the 14th Amendment. In response to a media question, Priebus said: Listen, I don't get involved. I'm not going to get in the middle of all these candidate issues. It's a bad place for me to be. I'll let all these folks argue about this stuff, and I'm going to stay out of it. This is stunning when you think about it. The head of the RNC won’t even say that one of the two...

President Obama once offered to give Vice President Biden money to help his family during his son's battle with cancer, the vice president said Monday while discussing the high cost of cancer treatment. [Snip] When the vice president mentioned the possibility [of Beau selling his house to pay for cancer treatments] to Obama during one of their weekly lunches, the president "got up and he said, 'don't sell that house. Promise me you won't sell the house,'" Biden recalled during an interview with CNN. "He said, 'I'll give you the money. Whatever you need, I'll give you the money. Don't,...

CBS' new Nancy Drew will look very different should the network move forward with the reboot.CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller revealed Tuesday that the network's reimagining of the iconic character will be diverse."She is diverse, that is the way she is written," the executive told THR immediately following his time in front of the press at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour Tuesday. In a new batch of released emails from former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, a former US diplomat suggested to Clinton that she push the Palestinians to form Arab Spring-like protests against Israel to push the government to make fresh overtures towards a two-state solution. Thomas Pickering, a former US ambassador to Israel, wrote to Clinton on December 18, 2011 that she should recommend sparking Palestinian demonstrations, led by female protesters, to force Israel to re-enter peace negotiations. The protests, which also called on Israeli Jews to hold parallel demonstrations against the government, should be led by and attended by...

Taharrush gamea or collective sexual harassment is a type of sexual harassment in crowds. Reports by the North Rhine-Westphalia interior ministry and the German Federal Criminal Police Office attributed the New Year's Eve sexual assaults in Germany to the practice. Taharrush gamea is noted in Egypt as a kind of lighter sexual abuse or gang rape and occurred during the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 in the unrest at Tahrir Square, where Egyptian women and in some cases foreign journalists were surrounded by groups of young men, often having been touched with sexual intent and partly undressed, stripped naked and gang...

Mary Brigid McManamon is a constitutional law professor at Widener University’s Delaware Law School. __________________________________________________ Donald Trump is actually right about something: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) is not a natural-born citizen and therefore is not eligible to be president or vice president of the United States. The Constitution provides that "No person except a natural born citizen .?.?. shall be eligible to the office of President." The concept of "natural born" comes from the common law, and it is that law the Supreme Court has said we must turn to for the concept's definition. On this subject, the common law...

The Sunnis and Shiites may have found a way to resolve their differences. The Kremlin has offered to mediate any divisions between Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Sudan and their allies on one side, and the mullahs in Teheran on the other. It's like the Bear Who Walks like a Man inviting himself to the picnic of the animals, already judging which would make the tastiest appetizer. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here are reduced to trusting the Russians to be an impartial mediator. For the Bear has his own objectives, all of which serve his own ends, not that...
