NEW YORK (AP) - Ten top physicians want Columbia University to remove celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz from his medical faculty position. They cite what they call the heart surgeon's "egregious lack of integrity" as host of a television program where he promotes weight loss products. The letter was sent this week to the dean of Columbia's Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine. Led by Dr. Henry Miller of California's Stanford University, the physicians say Oz had "misled and endangered" the public by pushing what they call "quack treatments and cures."

ICE Director Sarah Saldana told a subcommittee of the House Budget Committee that a directive from Barack Obama trumps congressionally passed laws. As a law enforcement officer, she has a duty to uphold US immigration law as well as the constitution, which says in no uncertain terms that congress has the sole responsibility to pass laws. Rep Don Young (R) Iowa took exception to her statement and sought to establish that she was actually saying that Obama and not the law decides what he job is

A resolution to close the Republican Primary will take center stage at the upcoming Arizona Republican Party Committee meeting, Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the state GOP headquarters. The rift over this issue centers on McCain-aligned state chairman Robert Graham wanting to allow registered Independents to continue to vote in Republican primary elections and the grassroots conservative base of the party who view this intrusion through the prism of teams allowing their adversaries to choose their players preceding the opening season. (SNIP) Of course McCain got that wrong. This is what Reagan actually said: “A political party cannot be all...

Unless you’re an eagle-eyed reader, you might have missed the latest news from Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich. It was tucked away and hugging the bottom of Page 3 in a travelogue sounding section called “Around Arizona.”. The Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic) couldn’t be more gleeful to report that Brnovich filed a motion on Friday asking a U.S. District Court to dismiss the Ninth U. S. Circuit appeal of a policy charging illegal aliens as co-conspirators with their well-paid coyote transporters as they smuggle themselves into Arizona. By pulling the appeal, Brnovich will let stand an...

I really mean that. I think Ted Cruz has about as much chance of winning the GOP nomination as he does of becoming a Democrat in the next six months, but on the outside chance that something about him caught with Republican voters, I'll take the pledge now. As Sahil Kapur at TPM notes, most Republican candidates run on pro-gun stances, but they usually steer clear of suggesting that people should use their guns to revolt against government. This makes sense when you think about it, given that candidates are asking people to vote them into government. "The 2nd Amendment...

I like savory tarts, quiche-s, pies. I think I enjoyed my first quiche in the mid-1970s, at a little party. I had never had anything like it, and began making them. Many years ago, I found on the 'young' WWW, a recipe for a sausage quiche on the website of the Mason House Inn of Betansport, in Iowa. I don't see the recipe on their website anymore, but it's been saved here: https://virtualcities.com/ons/ia/z/iaz86011.htm The change I make in it is to use hot sausage, not Italian Sweet. Also, I recently found this 'Tomato Galette', which is more of a rustic...

In a world where many people wish to forget the atrocities committed, or even deny that they ever happened, let us take time to remember those who perished and those whose lives were scarred forever.

President Obama addressed a Working Mothers Town Hall during a brief trip to Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday. The issue of pay inequality was brought up and the president addressed the matter of equal pay in the White House, but not in the way you would think. "Let me tell you, now, Michelle would point out First Ladies get paid nothing," the president said to laughter. "So there’s clearly not equal pay in the White House when it comes to her and me." "But before we were in the White House, I wanted to make sure Michelle got paid as...

April 16 (Reuters) - Schlumberger Ltd, the world's No.1 oilfield services provider, reported a 38.8 percent drop in quarterly profit and said it would cut a further 11,000 jobs, blaming the fall in drilling activity, particularly in North America. Net income attributable to Schlumberger fell to $975 million, or 76 cents per share, in the first quarter ended March 31, from $1.59 billion, or $1.21 per share, a year earlier.

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) says he will force a vote on Loretta Lynch‘s attorney general nomination if it is delayed any longer by Senate Republicans, Mediaite has learned. Reid, the outgoing Senate minority leader, will call for the vote in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow set to air on Thursday night. “We’ve put up with this far too long and we’re going to need to have a vote on her very soon that’s created by Mitch McConnell or I’ll create one,” Reid will say. “I can still do that. I know parliamentary procedure around here and we’re going to...

It's reported that Micro aggression is the new face of racism. It is unintentional yet powerful form of racism\sexism. Racial experts have used examples such as a white guy asking an Asian person for help on homework or picking a black guy first to be on his basketball team. As I thought about it, I fear i have been the victim of micro aggression several times in my life as well, and I have been feeling very troubled. I'm m sure I'm not alone here. In what ways have people committed micro aggression towards you in the past?

Microsoft’s virtual desktops are one of the of the more unique features of Windows 10—a quick way to organize “screens” of apps that you can switch to back and forth. Rearranging them has always been a pain, but a new drag-and-drop feature, hopefully that problem will go away. Microsoft said it's expedited the ability to drag and drop windows between virtual desktops, eliminating the clunky keyboard shortcuts that Windows 10 currently forces one to use. Why this matters: Virtual desktops are handy tools for those with just a single monitor. If you have more than one monitor, you might have...

HOUSTON – Oil field services firm Schlumberger announced Thursday it plans to ax another 11,000 workers, kicking off what could be a second major wave of layoffs across the oil industry. The move will bring Schlumberger’s layoffs up to 20,000 employees, roughly 15 percent of its workforce, since it began paring back its payroll earlier this year to cope with low oil prices. The nine-month oil slump has cost the energy industry more than 120,000 jobs so far, according to oil field staffing firm Swift Worldwide Resources. Oil equipment companies have been forced to fine-tune their workforce as they promise...

Cruz's strong Zionism combined with traditional views on social issues is a 'natural fit' for Orthodox Jews in the U.S.Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, a hardline conservative and practicing Southern Baptist, is carving out a niche with Orthodox Jews — a "potentially winnable slice of an otherwise deeply Democratic demographic," Politico website reports. “I share a great many values with the Jewish community and the Orthodox community,” Cruz told Politico in a phone interview. “Chief among them is a passionate dedication to strengthening our friendship and alliance with the nation of Israel.” Combing a strong Zionist approach with traditional views...

"By 2023, we plan to create our own national space station in orbit. This is something far-off in the future, but also necessary for us from the point of view of our national economy," Putin said. Russia and NASA recently agreed to keep operating and financing the International Space Station (ISS) at least until 2024, but future joint space projects remain in doubt, as relations between Russia and the United States have plunged to post-Cold War lows over the Ukraine conflict. The Kremlin strongman said that Russia needed its own space station to be able to view its own territory...

WASHINGTON -- You won't hear it too much from official Washington, but America's finances are in big trouble. When you add up $18 trillion of debt, a dysfunctional Congress and activist judges taking power from the people, you get frustration and an attitude of enough is enough. Now one group is taking action in the form of a project called Convention of States. Conservative legal scholar Michael Farris heads it up. "Washington, D.C. will never fix itself and we have to have a solution from a different direction," Farris told CBN News. That direction is to amend the Constitution by...
