Flying home from London, where the subject of formal debate on the 70th anniversary of World War II had been whether Winston Churchill was a liability or asset to the Free World, one arrives in the middle of a far more acrimonious national debate right here in the United States. At issue: Should Barack Obama be allowed to address tens of millions of American children, inside their classrooms, during school hours? Conservative talk-show hosts saw a White House scheme to turn public schools into indoctrination centers where the socialist ideology of Obama would be spoon-fed to captive audiences of children...

I’m lying in my Tiffany blue bedroom, in the dark, listening to the President tell lies. He’s so good at it, that he is smiling and lots of people are clapping. He says, “Public Option. No one will have to change, if they like their present situation.” LIE. He says, “My plan will not add one dime to the deficit.” LIE. (Congressional Budget Committee speak up!) He says that if we don’t act now, the country will fall apart. LIE. He says that quality of health care won’t suffer. LIE He says that there won’t be rationing and those that...

The design for One World Trade Center has attracted substantial criticism, which is to be expected with a project of such public importance. Some of the gripes have merit. Overall, the finished site will be less impressive than the twin towers it is replacing. Nicolai Ouroussoff of the New York Times called the design "somber, oppressive and clumsily conceived, the project suggests a monument to a society that has turned its back on any notion of cultural openness." Not to mention any notion of collective courage in the face of the terrorist threat. The building's most objectionable feature is the...

My sister just reported back to me from the doctors' rally in DC this evening. She went with her husband and 3 teenaged daughters. Here is what she reported: It was a great, well-behaved crowd of about 1000 -- mostly doctors and some nurses. They came from across the country and all sorts of practices. She said the speakers were just folks ... that they did not appear to be professional speakers. They were just doctors, speaking from the heart. They told of personal experiences of government interference in individual care and practices and the consequences. There were a couple...

"Hubris-laden charlatans" was the way a recent e-mail from a reader characterized the Obama administration. That phrase seems especially appropriate for the Charlatan-in-Chief, Barack Obama, whose speech to a joint session of Congress was both a masterpiece of rhetoric and a shameless fraud. To tell us, with a straight face, that he can insure millions more people without adding to the already skyrocketing deficit, is world-class chutzpa and an insult to anyone's intelligence. To do so after an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office has already showed this to be impossible reveals the depths of moral bankruptcy behind the glittering...

Though we live in an era when all undesirable facts are often blindly labeled "conspiracy theories" by political operatives with an agenda at risk, a very real conspiracy unfolds every now and then. While it is indeed true that not all theories are actual conspiracies, like when Hillary Clinton developed an imaginary "right-wing conspiracy" out to get her husband, when in fact, the semen stained dress provided all the necessary (but unfriendly) facts and a perfectly logical explanation for all of those nasty rumors - it is also true that some conspiracies are much more than just crackpot theory. To...

After a listless summer during which his opponents dominated the health care debate, President Obama used a dramatic appearance before Congress on Wednesday to seize control of the autumn, the season of decision for the initiative he has turned into the central test of his presidency. Having avoided specifics in order to give the House and Senate room to legislate, he piled on the details, openly battling the "blizzard of charges and countercharges," out of which, he said, "confusion has reigned." It was a speech designed to clear the air by sweeping aside misconceptions, reassuring senior citizens about the future...

Others here at NewsReal blog have already artfully analyzed President Barack Obama’s speech last night, in considerable depth and with great sobriety. Of all the reactions I’ve seen so far on the “right,” however, the one that surprised me most came from FOX News host Sean Hannity. That Hannity is no fan of the President’s policies is an understatement. Yet I don’t think I was the only viewer who was startled by Hannity’s no-holds-barred commentary yesterday evening. Among other things, Hannity called the President’s address “an attack speech that could have been written by James Carville,” one “full of partisan...

Joe Wilson’s outburst Wednesday night earned more than a personal rebuke from the president and a dagger-eyed gasp from the speaker of the House; it drew winces from Republicans worried that their party is becoming known less for the power of its ideals and more for the pettiness of its vitriol. “Neither party has an exclusive on whack jobs,” says Republican media consultant Mark McKinnon. “Unfortunately, right now the Democrats generally get defined by President Obama, and Republicans, who have no clear leadership, get defined by crackpots — and then they begin to define the Republican Party in the mind...

Senator Jim Demint releases a statement on President Obama’s speach: Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, made the following statement: “Tonight’s speech was a perfect example of why most Americans oppose President Obama’s health plan. He continues to insist a government takeover of health care is the only option, while providing no proof it will lower costs or improve care, and he belittles the millions of informed Americans who oppose his plan. In short, his message tonight was: Be quiet America, Washington knows best.“ “The bill that President Obama outlined tonight was the...

GEORGE SOROS’ BACKGROUND: To give you an idea about this guy, here’s a news nugget from a while back, this guy can make money in a heartbeat, and pump it into far-left causes with no effort, generally using “shadow corporations”, and “dummy corporations” to do his bidding.

One of President Obama's biggest challenges this fall will be persuading seniors to accept his healthcare proposals. Many elderly voters are deeply worried about "Obama-care" because they fear that his plans will reduce their coverage and increase their costs. Seniors, in fact, are more opposed to Obama's healthcare ideas than any other age group. This is ironic because those over 65 rely on the government in so many ways, such as through Medicare and Social Security. But they have developed a deep skepticism toward Obama's agenda of expanding the reach and power of Washington. They basically agree with the conservative...

And to think that Americans take the mickey out of British standards of dentistry… Alan Dale Lee: an inconvenient tooth Meet Alan Dale Lee, the man with possibly the ugliest mugshot in the long history of bad mugshots. The 43-year-old was arrested in Dade City, Florida, accused of aggravated assault - it's alleged that he stabbed another man in the stomach with a knife. Lee was given the nickname 'Dracula' by the cops who arrested him, who couldn't believe how deeply wrong his mouth was. One officer commented: 'It was hard to keep a straight face when the mugshot was...

We should have “an honest debate†on health care, said Barack Obama in his Aug. 22 radio address, “not one dominated by willful misrepresentations and outright distortions.†Among the “phony claims†made against the House bill, says the president, are that it provides funding for abortions, guarantees coverage for illegal aliens, contains “death panels†and represents a federal takeover of the health care system. Is Obama right? Are critics misleading and frightening folks with falsehoods about Obamacare? Well, let us inspect each of those “phony claims.†Does the House bill fund abortions? No. However, while the House Energy and Commerce...

Lutheran CORE Plans Next Steps, Intends to be 'Free-Standing' Synod 09-198-JB CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Saying the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has "fallen into heresy," because of actions taken at last month's churchwide assembly, the chair of Lutheran CORE (Coalition for Reform) said the organization intends to be a "free-standing synod" which will carry out ministries apart from the ELCA. In addition CORE is expected to consider initiating conversations with member Lutheran congregations and reform movements in the United States and Canada toward a possible reconfiguration "of North American Lutheranism," said the Rev. Paull E. Spring, State College, Pa.,...

President Obama declared Wednesday night that it's time for "action" on health care. On Thursday, he and other top Democrats sought common ground. But it's an open question whether the spirit of party unity will last — and translate into tangible legislation on the president's desk. Obama met Thursday with Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson and other key moderate Democrats. Wednesday night, Nelson said the speech was "a bit of a game-changer." On Thursday spokesman Jake Thompson clarified the remarks. "It was a game changer not so much for Congress but for the public." Meanwhile, Jason Altmire, D-Pa., said, "The president did...
