Another: Do you think Congress will pass health care legislation this year?
-
The snake-oil salesman in chief offered “his” healthcare prescriptions this Wednesday night. What he’s been selling the last 5 months is anyone’s guess, but be that as it may, here are my reactions to tonight’s message written as I listened (a sort of delayed live blog, as it were). First of all let’s be honest. Anything the President said tonight really isn’t very meaningful. After all, the bills have already been written and are out of committee. No rewrites will be in the offing because of what Obama said tonight. But the fact that he assembled this joint session is...

With the resignation of White House CEQ member and “Green Jobs Czar” Van Jones over Labor Day weekend, the movement toward a green tech economy took more than just a symbolic hit. Take these three lessons from Jones’ resignation as signals that the Senate’s lift on energy/climate change legislation in the coming weeks may be even tougher than predicted: Green as Granola…or Worse? We have seen time and again this year that in spite of further entrenchment with skeptics, the green movement is still not resonant in red state America. In fact, they see climate change and energy reform as...

Obama Drops Iffy Line On Health Plan Parts of his speech repeat some of his oversimplified claims WASHINGTON - The change was subtle, but significant. In his speech to Congress on Wednesday night, President Barack Obama gave a more accurate — and less reassuring — account of the impact of his proposed health care overall than he has done in the past. It went by in a blink. He told Americans that nothing he is proposing will force businesses or consumers to change their existing insurance coverage. That much is true. It's also true that nothing in his plan guarantees...

The deepest downturn in the U.S. economy since the Great Depression may finally shrink the gap between the very best-off Americans and everyone else. If so, it won't be by lifting up the bottom. It will be by pulling down the top.

WASHINGTON -- Job openings fell to the lowest level in nine years in July, according to a Labor Department report Wednesday, as businesses remain reluctant to hire despite signs the economy is improving. The department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover survey, or JOLTS report, found that businesses and government advertised 2.4 million open positions on the last day in July, down from 2.5 million in June. That's also the fewest openings since the department began compiling the data in December 2000. Still, jobs are being added in some sectors, as companies seek more health care and technology workers. The report...

Hey everyone, I remember reading about errors in Obama's memoir recently. There was one example of him getting a job as some big financial hot shot in his book, but in reality he never had a job even close. Does anyone have that thread or website link? Thanks!

It went by in a blink. He told Americans that nothing he is proposing will force businesses or consumers to change their existing insurance coverage. That much is true. It's also true that nothing in his plan guarantees that policies people have now will continue to be available in the same form. In earlier accounts, he spoke with unmerited certainty in saying people who...

Lizzie Miller is considered too large to model plus-size clothes. Is the reaction that followed the publication of this picture going to change that? 'It's a photo that measures all of three by three inches," gushes Cindi Leive, editor of US Glamour in a post on the magazine's blog, "but the letters about it started to flood my inbox literally the day Glamour hit newsstands." The picture in question, illustrating a story about body confidence, has generated more than 700 comments on the site, and featured on the US Today morning TV programme. What does it show? A beautiful, creamy-skinned...

I think we should pass Obamacare and try it in one state only. We should also pass a Republican plan and try it in one state only. Let's try Obamacare in IL, and Republicare in Missouri. Or we could do it in Michigan and Ohio. Let's pick two states and try it.

WASHINGTON – The nastiness of August reached from the nation's town halls into the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday as President Barack Obama tried to move his health care plan forward. South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted "You lie!" after Obama had talked about illegal immigrants. It wasn't the only interruption during Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress in the House of Representatives. Earlier, Republicans laughed when Obama acknowledged that there are still significant details to be worked out before a health overhaul can be passed. Wilson's outburst caused Obama to pause briefly before he went on with...

So what's the SEC really concerned about these days? A better way to protect investors? Nope. Friends tell me that at the top of their list the big question is: "How is the SEC going to be portrayed in the new Oliver Stone movie sequel, Wall Street?"

Synopsis: We don't want to be forced to buy an insurance plan from corrupt insurance companies. (Nevermind this has been in the plan all along ... duh). Bottom line: The Dems are falling apart over this. Huffington Post link below
