WASHINGTON -- Job openings fell to the lowest level in nine years in July, according to a Labor Department report Wednesday, as businesses remain reluctant to hire despite signs the economy is improving.

The department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover survey, or JOLTS report, found that businesses and government advertised 2.4 million open positions on the last day in July, down from 2.5 million in June. That's also the fewest openings since the department began compiling the data in December 2000.

Still, jobs are being added in some sectors, as companies seek more health care and technology workers.

The report underscores the tough competition that jobless Americans face. With 14.5 million unemployed people in July and only 2.4 million openings, that means there were six unemployed people, on average, for every job opening.

The dim bulbs won't admit it - they say all is well and getting better, but reality impinges.

Prayers for all who are struggling right now.

...and the stock market is continuing to soar as everyone thinks the recession is over and prosperity is just around the next corner.

Just plain insanity.

I saw some loudmouth on TV tonight. He read a statement off a teleprompter that said he brought the economy back from the brink. This article must be wrong.

“...as businesses remain reluctant to hire despite signs the economy is improving.”

Hard to believe that those of us that run our own and also manage businesses for others, aren’t buying that the 0bamacnomy is improving in any way, shape or form.

Dorks.

“Thanks to the bold and decisive action we have taken since January, I can stand here with confidence and say that we have pulled this economy back from the brink,” Obama said.

Joe Biden: Stimulus doing 'more than we had hoped'

Biden's hopes must have been pretty low.

In other news, Associated (with Obama) Press now reports with confidence that the worst recession since the 1930s is now like the War on Terror: officially over.

There aren’t any new jobs. And there are fewer of the jobs that existed when Obama took office. It is just as he wants it. The Stimulus Package is horseshit. It’s just grease for the 2010 election cycle. How about it, you fools that voted for him - how’s that hope and change thing working out for you?

Mission accomplished.

The thing that the Democrats don't realize is that the increase in income taxes after 2010 affects business decisions on the level of operations in the USA.

Why do you think I've been pushing for MASSIVE changes in our tax laws to encourage personal savings and capital investment staying in the USA? The FairTax proposal (H.R. 25/S. 296) achieves this very end because no more taxes exist on earning money.
