It seems to me that the '34 was about as good as it gets. The cyclic rate was perhaps too high. Why go through the expense of improving on the wheel? Could not this weapon be adopted to a US or NATO round and put to use? Critiques of this weapon system would be welcome, thanks.

Continually we see most of the world coming up with ridiculous excuses for the actions of Muslims. Like blaming it all on Israel or the USA. Yet today Thailand has been hit with its second Islamic bomb blast in less than two weeks. The problem is not America or Israel, it is Islam!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Early estimates put the cost of Sarah Palin's midterm resignation as Alaska governor at a minimum of $40,000, not including a special legislative session partly linked to her departure. The preliminary figures obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request show it cost the state almost $14,100 for the July 26 swearing-in ceremony of new Gov. Sean Parnell.

The common ancestor of all the Granny Smiths and Cox's Orange Pippins still grows on some of the world's most beautiful but little known mountainsides in the former Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan. The discovery of the "Garden of Eden" in Central Asia has triggered efforts to save what remains of the forests, always known for their abundance of wild fruit. Once under assault by Soviet agricultural planners, they are now menaced by the wealth of oil capitalism and as much as 80 per cent has disappeared. "In earlier historical times there were vast mixed fruit forests across the area," said...

About two thirds of GCSE exams taken at independent schools this year gained at least an A grade, compared with only one in five in the state sector. The increase in the proportion of top marks at private schools comes as a growing number of independent head teachers abandon GCSEs in favour of more rigorous exams, casting doubt on their usefulness. Westminster School, London, which leads this year’s independent schools table with 98.1 per cent of all grades at either A or A*, will offer ten subjects as International GCSEs (IGCSE) in the next academic year. “Pupils taking more rigorous...

Via JWF and Gabe Malor, who have to be wondering whether Barack Obama appointed Van Jones as the Green Jobs Czar as some sort of blogger full-employment program. After being a Communist and a 9/11 Truther, will Jones’ support for cop-killer Mumia Abu Jamal even register? Maybe it will at the White House:

The last time a new American political party came into being, one strong enough to elect a President, was in 1854. As you have guessed, that was the Republican Party. Its first elected President was Abraham Lincoln in 1860. Many third party and independent campaigns have been mounted since then. The Progressive Party around 1900 managed to elect Governors and majorities in the legislature of several states. Their high water mark was in 1912, when former President Teddy Roosevelt chose that Party as his vehicle to run again when the Republicans declined to nominate him, again. (No, there never was...

Stephanie Yao Long/The OregonianIndish's version of vegetable korma. I recently watched "Monsoon Wedding," the Bollywood story of a grandiose Punjabi marriage celebration, a film as intricate as the four days of family drama leading to the ceremony. While we don't actually see what must have been a banquet to end all banquets, we can well imagine a feast as complex and elaborate as the convoluted wedding itself. I mention this affair because Indish, a new Indian restaurant, stakes its claim for uniqueness on a refusal to serve what owner Raj Sharma calls ornate and elegant wedding cooking. Rather than...

A fifth Somali man from Minneapolis apparently has been killed in his war-ravaged homeland, a relative said Friday. Mohamoud Hassan, a 23-year-old former engineering student at the University of Minnesota, reportedly died in the past day or two. "It's real bad news," Hassan's uncle said Friday night. "But that is what happened." The uncle, who did not want to be identified, said he didn't know when Hassan was killed, but added that "it's very recent. Today or last night." The circumstances of Hassan's death were not immediately known. Abdirizak Bihi, a community activist who visited with Hassan's grandmother on Friday,...

Terry Jeffrey walked away the winner on Hardball this afternoon. Despite being double-teamed by Chris Matthews and Salon's Joan Walsh, the editor-in-chief of our sister publication CNSNews.com had the others admitting that the Obama admin has gone too far with the cult-of-personality way it's pitched the president's speech to schoolchildren. But that didn't prevent Matthews and Walsh from unsubtly accusing PBO's opponents of racism, archly claiming that the motive for the opposition to the president is his "background."

Major Breach of Protocol by Nancy Mathis, in an article posted on the AMERICAN DAUGHTER has an insight regarding obama's upcoming message to school children I know that it hard to believe that this insight has been missed by the msm. Her point is the communication path that was chosen to release this information. obama chose to directly communicate with the school principals, a major breach of protocool. By bypassing the Superintendents and School Boards, that are elected by the local community and releasing this program directly to the principals he has by passed the voters. Nancy Mathis concludes with:...

In America's Great Depression, originally published in 1963, Murray Rothbard argued that the recession-adjustment that began in 1929 was greatly worsened and turned into a full-blown depression by the policies implemented by Herbert Hoover. Among the Hooverite policies that stifled the adjustment process, Rothbard identified public-works programs, increases in taxes, the imposition of the Smoot-Hawley tariff, but especially Hoover's efforts to prevent the downward adjustment of nominal wages by exerting pressure on big industrialists not to cut (and even to raise) their employees' wage rates. Rothbard's explanation of how the temporary and benign recession-adjustment process was impeded and diverted into...

It is now well established that Barack Obama was linked to the Hawaiian Communist Party network through his boyhood/teenage mentor Frank Marshall Davis. It is also well known that after moving to Chicago, Obama linked up with the local communist networks. Manning Marable, a leader of the Communist Party offshoot Committees of Correspondence for Democracy&Socialism claims that Obama "understands what socialism is. A lot of the people working with him are, indeed, socialists with backgrounds in the Communist Party or as independent Marxists. There are a lot of people like that in Chicago who have worked with him for years..."...

The rise of the Left and godless Liberalism in America has been slowly but ever rising since the 1920’s until today, where it is at a fever pitch. The Left has always sought to make war with America’s Judean/ Christian values (moral and spiritual) by imposing their secular and godless immorality on the American culture. They are Constitutional apostates and, like a parasite, they have twisted the U.S. Constitution in support of their Machiavellian agenda. They have been relentless in their pursuit to totally secularize our American Culture and heritage. Iconic leftist leaders such as Margaret Sanger, Roger Baldwin, John...
