Authorities have traced the ignition point just off a public road and say they found the substance used to start the historic blaze, but they would not identify it. The so-called Station Fire has now consumed growth and structures on more than 150,000 acres, or more than 234 square miles. That's an area more than ten times the size of New York's Manhattan island. It's still not contained and has cost millions of dollars to fight with resources coming in from all over the country and Canada.

Perhaps, someday, going into space will be as mundane as flying on a commercial aircraft: Buy the ticket online, drive to the aerodrome, shuffle through a cattle-pen security line, grab a burger in the food court, watch a mediocre movie on the way up, and so on. Supertanker owners may start refusing cargoes within the next three months unless rates return to a profitable level, said Frontline Ltd., the biggest operator of the ships which carry almost half the world’s oil. All military personnel will be vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus, and the vaccine will be available to all military family members who want it, a Defense Department health affairs official said today. The H1N1 vaccination program will begin in early October, said Army Lt. Col. (Dr.) Wayne Hachey, director of preventive medicine for Defense Department health affairs. Ventura County Sheriff’s authorities released a recording of the 9-1-1 call made after a Newbury Park man had part of his left little finger bitten off during a pro-healthcare-reform rally in Thousand Oaks this week.
