In its editorial marking the 233rd year since the founding of our nation, The Washington Post notes; “The men who produced the Constitution were preoccupied with the abuse of power. They talked in terms of restraint, division of powers, limits on government. They were ever mindful of the ways in which a majority could impose its will on a minority.” But as Ricci v. DeStefano demonstrates, sometimes the abuse of power occurs when the government seeks to impose its will on a majority.

Today, Sarah Palin resigned as Governor of Alaska. While many are speculating about her motives, a section of her announcement makes it crystal clear: She wants to make a difference by promoting mental handicaps, increasing the number of voters who will support her retarded platform! During her speech, Palin mentioned that her family was a major factor in her decision to leave the position of Governor. She specifically mentioned the horrid strain on her family resulting from a local blogger Photoshopping a local conservative talk-show’s face in place of her retarded son Trig’s in a picture of Palin and Trig....

CAIRO: A group of Egyptian activists launched a website demanding the release of Iranian protestors detained on account of demonstrations following the allegedly rigged presidential elections in Iran. "We were obliged to defend the rights of the Iranians to express their opinions without being condemned and jailed for doing so. They shouldn’t be detained for expressing their anger toward certain suspected glitches in the elections..."

What happened to Sarah Palin is a political game changer on the national level. It also may be a preview of what every American may face in a few years. The 18 ethics charges filed since she rose to prominence in Republican circles might be the first time the left has successfully used the Cloward-Piven Strategy to stop an individual politician on the national level. For those who do not know, the strategy was developed in the late 1960s by two sociologists at Columbia. In a nutshell it seeks to "hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy...

Numerous hurricanes, tropical and economic, have hit Florida since its insane land boom of 1924-25. Yet the visitor in Florida today hears less about the Depression, sees less fear, privation, destitution, unhappiness and ill health than almost anywhere in the land. It may be the sunshine as they claim, it may be pioneering blood in their veins, but the Floridians seem to have extraordinary powers of recovery. Bankruptcies and receiverships by the thousands, wholesale foreclosures, the Miami hurricane of 1926, the Palm Beach hurricane of 1928, millions in defaulted taxes, cities sunk by public debt, the Mediterranean fruit fly threatening...

TALLAHASSEE - It is hardly the path to the top of the ticket many envisioned for Marco Rubio just a few years ago. The West Miami lawyer, now 38, had a national profile even before he took the gavel as Florida House speaker in 2006. He held "100 Ideas" forums with the likes of the late Jack Kemp and Newt Gingrich. A Senate president predicted his charisma would ultimately lead him to the Governor's Mansion and White House. Outgoing Gov. Jeb Bush even christened him his ideological heir by presenting him with a sword on the House floor. But today,...

Budapest - Bela Kiraly, a key figure in Hungary's ill-fated anti-Soviet revolution in 1956, died at the age of 97, the Ministry of Defence told MTI on Saturday. Inaugurated as an officer in 1935, Kadar graduated from the Budapest Military Academy in 1942, then took part in the Second World War. Promoted to general in 1950, he became commander of the Military Academy. A year later, however, he was sentenced to death, later mitigated to life imprisonment, under the trumped-up charge of conspiracy against the state. A key phase of his life was the 1956 revolution and freedom fight when...

“Until earlier this month, this was a nation of laws, not of men…”, so wrote Steve Stanek at Heartland.org in his May, 2009 article, “Obama Extortion Shatters the Rule of Law”. The statement is well supported in the article and should raise an alarm for Americans. Other alarms have been raised in past weeks; have you listened to some of the more courageous talk show hosts recently? They emphatically warn that our country is being hijacked politically. Indeed, some believe the act is almost completed. The unfortunate truth of the matter is that many Americans are busy with family...

July 03, 2009 Ten political philanderers who got away with it Will he go? Won't he go? As Govenor Sanford's political future hangs in the balance, 10 politicians who survived a public airing of their dirty laundry. David Vitter After the Louisiana senator’s name was uncovered amongst the phone records released a D.C. Madam, the senator publicly apologized - also announcing his confession to God - with his wife by his side. Sounds familiar. But here’s where Vitter’s story diverges from the traditional model (think Spitzer..). The story dissolved, and Vitter got on with his life. Surivial tactic: A Democratic...

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia will grant President Barack Obama permission next week to ship U.S. weapons supplies across its territory, or through its airspace, en route to Afghanistan, sources on both sides told Reuters on Saturday. The transit deal will open up an important corridor for the United States as it steps up its Afghan war against Taliban insurgents by sending in more troops. Routes via Pakistan have come under attack by militants. It will be one of the main agreements signed during Obama's Moscow summit next week with Kremlin chief Dmitry Medvedev, the sources said. "The agreement will include...

Editor’s note: The following letter was written by Somerset County native Chester Thomas of Honduras and sent to relatives and friends to present his perspective on the coup that resulted in the ouster of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya. Our warmest greetings to you from Honduras. Many of you are well aware of what is happening in Honduras, although a lot of the information being transmitted is being twisted by...

Speech on the Occasion of the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Calvin Coolidge July 5, 1926 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania We meet to celebrate the birthday of America. The coming of a new life always excites our interest. Although we know in the case of the individual that it has been an infinite repetition reaching back beyond our vision, that only makes it the more wonderful. But how our interest and wonder increase when we behold the miracle of the birth of a new nation. It is to pay our tribute of reverence and respect to those...

The liberal Talking Points Memo website, which is deemed a respectable political site by the mainstream media which regularly quotes from their articles, published an article last night that speculated Alaska Governor Sarah Palin resigned because "she wants to spread Down syndrome." Palin's infant son Trig was born last year with Down syndrome.Amazingly, the article was published at 11:51 p.m., hours after the Huffington Post had issued an apology over a similarly themed article that the site pulled after it was highlighted by Free Republic. The TPM article, entitled Possible Reasons for Sarah Palin's Resignation and Other Schadenfreude, was written by...
