WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) - Octuplet mother Nadya Suleman became unhinged with fear last year when she thought she had lost one of her children, repeatedly telling an emergency dispatcher, "Oh God, I'm going to kill myself," according to a recording of her 911 call released Wednesday by police. Suleman made the call Oct. 27 after her 5-year-old son went missing from the front yard, only to find him a few minutes later after he returned from a walk. Suleman's repeated threats of suicide prompted a chiding from the dispatcher, who could hear children's voices in the background. "Don't say that...

The Republican Party today has launched a counteroffensive to the controversial recent questioning over conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh’s "leadership" of the party -- describe it as a White House diversion attempt. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) issued a statement Wednesday which said called the controversy a White House “diversionary tactic” without mentioning Limbaugh by name. “Political operatives in the White House are trying to divert attention away from the challenges facing our economy, the sinking stock market, and the irresponsible spending binge they are presiding over,” the statement read. “In the midst of a deepening recession, White House...

Calling any Freeper out there with skills compiling / editing Video- It would be great to cut and paste Press Secretary Robert Gibbs misleading comment, saying Limbaugh is hoping that the economy continues to collapse (Obama fail), next to the Hannity interview back in January where Limbaugh very thoughtfully explains his thoughts on the success or Failure of Obama. Link to Gibb here: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19596.html Link to Hannity Here: http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q=hannity&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=1CSvSaOKNse_tgfcqdCABg&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&resnum=5&ct=title# I'm sure the CPAC version contrasted with other liberal media but-boys repeating the deceit could be added in as well. This is not so much to defend Rush, he's a big...

As Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Sen. John F. Kerry on Thursday chairs the second in a series of hearings intended to bolster the Obama administration’s policy of opening negotiations with Iran, a key Iranian dissident tells Newsmax that talks with the Tehran regime are a mistake. “We believe the United States should talk to the Iranian people, not to the regime,” said Khosrow Seif, 73, the leader of the Iran Nation’s Party (INP). Recalling his own role in the popular movement against the Shah in the 1970s, Seif told Newsmax that the United States should learn from its past...

Touching Someone Where It’s Offensive: Korea, Thailand, China, Europe, the Middle East. What’s Offensive: Personal space varies as you travel the globe. In Mediterranean countries, if you refrain from touching someone’s arm when talking to them or if you don’t greet them with kisses or a warm embrace, you’ll be considered cold. But backslap someone who isn’t a family member or a good friend in Korea, and you’ll make them uncomfortable. In Thailand, the head is considered sacred — never even pat a child on the head. What You Should Do Instead: Observe what locals are doing and follow suit....

So I¡¯m bunking with George Clooney in a little room in a guest house here in eastern Chad, near Darfur in Sudan. We each have a mattress on the floor, the¡°shower¡±is a rubber hose that doesn¡¯t actually produce any water, and George¡¯s side of the room has a big splotch of something that sure looks like blood. He¡¯s using me to learn more about Darfur, and I¡¯m using him to ease you into a column about genocide. Manipulation all around - and, luckily, neither of us snores. (But stay tuned to this series for salacious gossip if he talks in...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Democrats on Wednesday preserved pet projects sought by a lobbying firm under federal investigation and tried to nail down support for big domestic spending increases in hopes of passing a wrap-up budget bill by week's end. Democrats defeated, by a 52-43 vote, an amendment to strip 13 projects that the PMA Group has pressed for. The firm, now disbanded, is accused of illegally using straw donors to funnel campaign cash to lawmakers. At the same time, Democrats sought a few GOP votes for the $410 billion bill after two Democrats came out against it over the...

Former top Bush aides Karl Rove and Harriet Miers agreed Wednesday to testify before Congress under oath about the firings of U.S. attorneys, a controversy involving allegations of political interference that grew into a constitutional standoff between two branches of government. The Bush White House had fought attempts to force Rove and Miers to testify, and the agreement — steered by aides to President Barack Obama — ended that dispute. Both the White House and lawmakers, especially now that Democrat Obama has replaced Republican George W. Bush — were leery of having a judge settle the question about the limits...

GE debt is trading like it is not going to make it. It costs $7 million to insure $10 million in GE Capital debt for ten years. GE Capital credit default swaps require a $2 million up front payment, followed by $500,000 a year for ten years. Got that? If you own a ten year GE debt instrument, over ten years it will cost you $7 million in insurance, through credit debt swaps, to guarantee you will get your $10 million back...

Not that he cares, but the Almighty surely deserves our thanks for arranging to deny celebrity atheist Bill Maher, the Iron Man Nightlife Decathlete, an Academy Award nomination for his anti-religion documentary. But Maher got his licks in anyway, saying on last week's Oscar telecast: "I know, it's a touchy subject. But someday, we all have to confront the notion that our silly gods cost the world too greatly." Too right! Our silly gods have plainly taken a lot out of humanity's hide, as a quick tour of the popular pantheon will attest. The God of Money has been a...

What Obama is doing is trying to reverse the damage done by 8 years of wanton and willful destruction of the American economy. I wish I could say it was accidental, a unique event that hasn't been seen before, but that simply isn't true. The Bush policies come directly from the economic teachings of Milton Friedman, a man responsible for more death and destruction around the world than most people can imagine. If you take a look at Friedman's ideas, which are elimination of government regulations on business, elimination of taxes on business, elimination of all international trade rules, and...

NEW YORK — The number of homeless people on New York City streets declined 30 percent from last year, thanks to revamped agency policies, the city's Department of Homeless Services said Wednesday. The agency said it estimated 2,328 homeless people on streets, public spaces and subways this year, down from 3,306 last year and 4,395 in 2005. "This year's numbers prove that if you give us the time and we stay focused on partnership, we can achieve great results," Commissioner Robert Hess said. Officials said the drop corresponds to an overhaul in the agency's approach, which includes new performance standards,...

(Reuters) - U.S. oil and natural gas producing companies should not receive federal subsidies in the form of tax breaks because their businesses contribute to global warming, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told Congress on Wednesday. It was one of the sharpest attacks yet on the oil and gas industry by a top Obama administration official, reinforcing the White House stance that new U.S. energy policy will focus on promoting renewable energy sources like wind and solar power and rely less on traditional fossil fuels like oil as America tackles climate change. "We don't believe it makes sense to significantly...

As part of a continuation of his "COMЯADE UPDATE" segment he started near the beginning of his show, which became a YouTube sensation, Fox News host Glenn Beck is picking up right where he left off. Beck, on his March 4 program took on a couple new targets, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and union labor. "Comrades! Comrades, there is good news from the Western front," Beck said. "Our glorious revolution is starting to take hold on a global scale. Just listen as comrade brown founded our propaganda into the minds of the clueless capital pigs today. Listen up." ..more...

The disappearance of World War II hero Raoul Wallenberg took an even deeper toll on his family than previously thought, his half-sister Nina Lagergren said Monday, confirming a newspaper report that her parents committed suicide. Citing previously unseen family documents, The Wall Street Journal reported that Wallenberg's mother Maj von Dardel and his stepfather Fredrik von Dardel killed themselves by overdosing on prescription drugs in 1979. "That's correct," Lagergren, who turns 88 on Tuesday, told The Associated Press. Wallenberg, who worked as a Swedish diplomat in Budapest, is credited for having saved the lives of at least 20,000 Jews during...

The head of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has warned that the fund insuring Americans' bank deposits could be wiped out this year without the money the agency is seeking in new fees from U.S. banks and thrifts. Without substantial amounts of additional assessment revenue in the near future, current projections indicate that the fund balance will approach zero or even become negative," Bair wrote in the letter dated Monday to the chief executives of the nation's 8,305 federally insured banks and thrifts. The industry, especially smaller community banks, has said the new insurance fees will place an extra burden...

Misericordia University, as a Catholic institution, has a responsibility for helping the community achieve these goals. However, precisely because it is a Catholic institution, it also has a responsibility to transmit Catholic teaching to its students in ways that are not ambiguous or confusing. SCRANTON, PA (Catholic Online) - Once again, Bishop Joseph Martino has acted in a manner which not only displays fidelity to his teaching office as a Catholic Bishop but great courage - in an age too often characterized by its opposite, cowardice. He has released further reflections on the issue of properly teaching authentic diversity and...
