NBC's Tom Costello, on duty at the White House today, asked press secretary Robert Gibbs about some comments made by his CNBC colleague Jim Cramer. On the Today show this morning, Cramer called Pres. Obama's budget a "radical agenda," adding, "This is the greatest wealth destruction I've seen by a President." "I'm not entirely sure what he's pointing to to make some of the statements," said Gibbs. "And you can go back and look at any number of statements he's made in the past about the economy and wonder where some of the back-up for those are too." When pressed...

STOCKHOLM (AFP) – The ozone layer over Sweden was thicker in February than it has been in decades, just a year after the second-thinnest level was recorded, the Swedish meteorological institute SMHI said on Tuesday. Measurements taken at SMHI's station in Norrkoeping, just south of Stockholm, showed the ozone layer was at its thickest in February since recordings there began in 1988, with a measurement of 426 Dobson units (DU). At the Vindeln station in northern Sweden, where measurements began in 1991, a record high of 437 DU was recorded. "We have to go as far back to the measurements...

Meghan McCain, who cozied up to Samuel (Joe the Plumber) Wurzelbacher last October, says her dates have been creepy disasters since her father's run for President. From the date who complimented her dinner order as a "maverick choice" to the guy who creepily remarked she would look hot in her mom's pearls, the daughter of John McCain concludes that the 2008 presidential race "killed my personal life." "I fear the election has destroyed my ability and desire to date," McCain, 24, wrote in a lighthearted blog essay Monday on the Daily Beast. "Nothing kills my libido quite like discussing politics."...

Paul Harvey’s death Saturday did not garner major headlines or sustained attention. Matt Drudge had the related story link off his page within about 12 hours of when the news broke. At one level, it’s not at all surprising. The man was 90. Though he soldiered on, he was past his peak. His vocal cord problems in 2001 and his bout with pneumonia in 2008 had America mentally prepared for the inevitable. But those who are unfamiliar with Paul Harvey need to learn about more than his tremendous career success. They need to understand and recognize his significance. Coming within...

CPAC Conference Home of Real Americans When I came to Washington D.C. to cover the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Committee) conference I knew I would be in a different world, after all the Democrats just took over the city. The folks attending the conference are the backbone of America. They are people that are going to be screwed, blued and tattooed by the Obama administration. What I did not know was that I would be surrounded by delusional left wing bloggers and what appear to be insane children that are the result of our failing public education system. I get...

Playboy Magazine got its undies in a bundle over the nation wide Tea Party protests held last Friday that were inspired by CNBC's Rick Santelli's free market rant of February 19. As Noel Sheppard noted on March 1, the skin mag published a piece claiming that Santelli was part of a vast right-wing conspiracy to protest Obama's socialist policies. It turns out, however, that the story has been proven false and in response Playboy has mysteriously removed the piece that first raised the question of the grand conspiracy. Happily, the facts have won over on Playboy forcing it to pull...

With the Obama administration’s oft stated preference for alternative energy sources, what will happen to the industries built around conventional energy sources like coal, oil and natural gas? The whitehouse.gov website proclaims the following in The Agenda — Energy & Environment: “President Obama and Vice President Biden have a comprehensive plan to invest in alternative and renewable energy, end our addiction to foreign oil, address the global climate crisis and create millions of new jobs.” Notice the only mention of any of the current major forms of energy was getting less oil from foreign sources, and the “millions of new...

<p>"Obama's election will trigger a stock market crash and likely devastate the already slumping real estate industry. A selling psychology usually feeds upon itself and can often induce a market-wide panic. So the nearer Obama gets to power the faster the markets are likely to dip. So look for a sharp downturn as election day approaches, and especially in the period between the Democratic victory and Inauguration day. Obama will doubtless blame the drop on the outgoing Bush Administration, but it will be his own tax plans that send the markets into a tizzy."</p>

In a commando-style operation, a dozen gunmen attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in the heart of Lahore, Pakistan's cultural and political hub, at 8:45 Tuesday morning. The attackers fired rockets, grenades and multiple rounds of ammunition at the team's bus and the police escorting it, killing eight people and injuring six. To some eyewitnesses, it was last November's Mumbai attacks replayed on Pakistani soil. Amid thick morning traffic in Lahore's Liberty Square, the gunmen ambushed the bus as it approached the Gaddaffi cricket stadium. "I heard the attack and spun around," recalls Abdul Ghani Butt, 30, a foreign-currency dealer...

DETROIT – Major automakers' U.S. sales continued their deep slump in February, putting the industry on track for its worst sales month in more than 27 years as huge rebates and low-interest financing failed to spur fearful consumers to make a major purchase. General Motors' sales tumbled 53 percent from a year earlier, while Ford's U.S. sales fell 48 percent. Toyota's sales fell 40 percent, and the other major Japanese automakers were only slightly better. The slide casts further doubt on the financial viability of GM and Chrysler, which planned to report its sales later Tuesday. They need to sell...

Green trucking: State may consider diesel idling ban soon Mike Ivey — 3/03/2009 1:24 pm The rumble of idling diesel trucks at a highway rest stop is a familiar sound to many travelers. Truck and bus drivers routinely run their engines during breaks to provide heat or air conditioning in the cab and electrical power for the radio or refrigerator. Keeping the motor running also eliminates the need for a "cold start," which is hard on bearings, seals and other engine parts. But growing concerns over air pollution -- not to mention fuel costs -- have driven 21 states to...

JERUSALEM – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton promised Tuesday to work with the incoming Israeli government, but delivered a clear message that could put her at odds with the country's next leader: Movement toward the establishment of a Palestinian state is "inescapable." Clinton also said the U.S. would soon send two envoys to Syria. It was the most significant sign yet that the Obama administration is ready to mend relations with the Damascus regime. The U.S. withdrew its ambassador in 2005, accusing Syria of supporting terrorism. "We have no way to predict what the future with our relations concerning...

CALIFORNIA CITY - In an effort to curb vicious dog attacks, the city council will consider an ordinance aimed at regulating ownership of pit bulls and Rottweilers during its regular meeting Tuesday. The meting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 21000 Hacienda Blvd. The proposed breed-specific ordinance will require owners of pit bulls and Rottweilers to register their dogs under a special breed registration, in addition to the regular dog license. This registration will have an additional fee of $100 and require owners to provide a recent photograph of the dog. No more than two...

Republicans tend not to need an elite leadership to do their thinking for them. Rush Limbaugh (who spoke so eloquently of conservative values at CPAC) and the hosts of conservative talk shows across this country are extremely popular because they manage to articulate what ordinary voters are already thinking and, all too often, what the Republican Party leadership is ignoring. It comes as no shock then that Republican Party leaders find it harder, if not impossible, to maintain the “leader walks on water” meme that the Democrats promoted with Obama and Clinton. I agree that Joe Wurzelbacher’s personae has been...

An evangelist cop who saw a demon at 1 Police Plaza and acted "godlike" is suing the NYPD to get his gun back.Lt. WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's top economic officials on Tuesday vigorously defended the administration's $3.6 trillion budget against Republican claims that it contained overly optimistic economic assumptions and included stealthy tax increases that could end up hitting most Americans. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and White House Budget Director Peter Orszag, in separate appearances on Capitol Hill, stuck to the administration line that the president's budget would benefit 95 percent of working Americans. Higher taxes for affluent Americans would not come until 2011 once "we are safely into recovery," Geithner told the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. "I'm confident this...
