GM, Ford, Toyota sales plunge as slump continues (When Dems tank an economy, they tank it good)

DETROIT – Major automakers' U.S. sales continued their deep slump in February, putting the industry on track for its worst sales month in more than 27 years as huge rebates and low-interest financing failed to spur fearful consumers to make a major purchase.

General Motors' sales tumbled 53 percent from a year earlier, while Ford's U.S. sales fell 48 percent. Toyota's sales fell 40 percent, and the other major Japanese automakers were only slightly better.

The slide casts further doubt on the financial viability of GM and Chrysler, which planned to report its sales later Tuesday. They need to sell cars and generate critical cash to supplement the $17.4 billion in government loans that are keeping them in business.

VW sales down 17%. TDI is a winner.

Is that a pick-up truck for hay farmers?

They need to sell cars and generate critical cash to supplement the $17.4 billion in government loans that are keeping them in business.

Unemployed people don't buy cars. Heavily taxed people have less disposable income, thus are less interested in buying cars. The threat of higher gas taxes and prices is also a potent issue in killing car sales. All of this can be laid at the feet of Obama and the Democrat majority in Congress.

On the one hand, I think I’m going to need a new truck in a couple years (mine’s going on 15) and I’m salivating at the prospect of getting a good deal.

On the other hand, I wonder how well it’ll be put together by a bunch of pissed-off union workers who hate their jobs but constantly worry about losing them too.

When is the auto industry going to be forced into building those clown cars? There are actually some people who bought these coffins on wheels locally ...

I bet they are terrific on snow and ice, something like a child’s top in a skid.

GM sales half what they were this time last year.

That's an enormous drop.

This is going to worsen an already dire situation.

So then buy a Tundra. That's my next vehicle.

An interesting comment I picked up last week..

Had to take my Lexus LS430 in for a scheduled service..
My dealer is located in a HUGE New Car marketing zone — Nearly EVERY make known to man is located there...

While speaking to the sales manager with whom I've become sort of friendly since we bought two cars from him in 4 months (that's another story)....I asked how badly they've been hurt by the slump...

He said that the Auto Park has already suffered a drop of nearly 65% overall —— While their Lexus dealership was down ONLY 16%..

That will REALLY piss off the Leftists and Unionists...
No matter how hard they hit us — we will have our revenge and comforts...

F’em..

I’ve always been partial to Fords, and I love the one I have — enough to work hard to keep it on the road until it totally rolls over and dies.

But those Tundras sure look good...

Wife has a Lexus (which is just a Toyota built with lockwashers). We have had really good luck with it.

can’t you see that Ford is no more! It has ceased to be! It’s expired and gone to meet its maker!

Hyundai is still outperforming everyone else. Down only 2 percent!

I gotta say...I like the direction they’re going. The Genesis is really neat. Rear-wheel-drive, V-6 or V-8...and reasonably priced.

It’s all part of the plan, boys and girls. Drive it down, manufacture or declare an emergency, take it over for a song, and then control it. Works for banks, industry, services, you name it. Doesn’t take more than a few minutes research to see the similarities in Zim or Venezuela or the early USSR.

Soon we’ll only be able to buy Tin Obamacans that get 40mpg but can’t go uphill or upwind. We’ll only get loans if we pledge obedience to Obamamania. We’ll only get health care if we are sufficiently downtrodden and lazy, and of the proper ethnic proportion. Anything not well hidden will be confiscated for the greater good (savings via ever-increasing taxation, 401k savings to make everyting more ‘fair’, and eventually weapons and personal property). Imagine the worst of cold war Russia right here at home.

By the time the Obamamaniacs start cryin’ “We been robbed” it’ll be too late. And if those of us that know better sit on our hands long enough, we won’t change it either.

If we don’t want this for our kids and grandkids, waiting until the next election and hoping people wise up isn’t a viable solution. Fight it now, or live with it later.
