SAN DIEGO, CA - A study conducted by the Food and Drug Administration and Howyflyl University reveals that Quaaludes have proven to be an effective treatment for adult ADHD, and could one day wipe out the dreaded disease. The drug, once popular as a recreational barbiturate in the 1970's, is now being hailed as the new 'Ritalin for Adults', and could be on the over-the-counter market within weeks.

(Video on Site) Sure it's funny, because hippies are stupid; but past the humor, this is sort of disturbing. Look at all these people eager to sign a petition to ban something they know NOTHING about. How can anyone make an informed decision if they don’t do their research? Libs are so eager to jump on any bandwagon that they will leap without even looking. It really is nuts. http://www.notoriouslyconservative.com/2008/07/penn-and-teller-trick-some-hippies.html

President Barack Obama unveiled a new emblem Tuesday that will be used on projects funded by the economic stimulus package. The emblem covers most of the basics of the $787 billion package — gears representing infrastructure, a red cross representing health care, a plant representing green technology — as well as flag-like stars and Recovery.gov, the Web site that will track the progress of stimulus projects. A White House press release said the emblem “is a symbol of President Obama’s commitment to the American people to invest their tax dollars wisely to put Americans back to work.”

It’s a long tale – how I became a Mennonite and ended up involved with the Anabaptist Network (http://www.anabaptistnetwork.com/) and the thinktank Ekklesia. My affiliations have been mostly Methodist so it’s not so much a matter of membership as a kind of passion for something else; call it simplicity or community or an Anabaptist vision. Anabaptists were the radicals of the Reformation – pacifist but prickly – and Mennonites were the Dutch Anabaptists, named after their most prominent leader, Menno Simons. There were Anabaptists in 16th century Britain, but persecution cut the movement short. The name means ‘re-baptiser’ and was...

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's top economic officials on Tuesday vigorously defended tax hikes in the administration's $3.6 trillion budget against Republican claims that they would affect nearly all Americans. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and White House Budget Director Peter Orszag, in separate appearances on Capitol Hill, stuck to the administration line that the president's budget would benefit 95 percent of working Americans. Higher taxes for affluent Americans would not come until 2011 once "we are safely into recovery," Geithner told the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. "I'm confident this is the right path for the country," Geithner said.

Short of opening a Radio Shack in an Amish town, Dubai is the world’s worst business idea, and there isn’t even any oil. Imagine proposing to build Vegas in a place where sex and drugs and rock and roll are an anathema. This is effectively the proposition that created Dubai - it was a stupid idea before the crash, and now it is dangerous. Dubai threatens to become an instant ruin, an emblematic hybrid of the worst of both the West and the Middle-East and a dangerous totem for those who would mistakenly interpret this as the de facto product...

President Obama told Americans to take a look at investing in the stock market this afternoon, a remarkable utterance for an American president, especially as the Dow Jones Industrial Average proceeds on its course Southward. "What you're now seeing is ... profit and earning ratios are starting to get to the point where buying stocks is a potentially good deal if you've got a long-term perspective on it," the president said on a day that trading continued to hover under 7,000. The president predicted that Americans' consumer confidence would improve as they see the stimulus bill "taking root." "Businesses are...

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's Treasury secretary says the administration has inherited "the worst fiscal situation in American history." Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told the House Ways and Means Committee Tuesday that Obama entered office facing a $1.3 trillion deficit — about 10 percent of the nation's economic output. Republicans have complained that Obama's budget proposal would balloon the deficit even higher, to $1.75 trillion.

You have to understand, my relationship with the city of Los Angeles is much like the one I have with my family. I love it and wouldn't know what to do without it despite the fact that it often acts as if its sole purpose is to drive me insane. The last few days were spent enjoying the most amazing aspect of living here: weather that hardly ever sucks. Today, however, I get to participate in one of the more maddening processes the city puts us through: a "nonpartisan" city primary. Here in the Age of Oprah, life is supposed...

New York, NY -- Chris Matthews has been on the pro-abortion side of the debate since before his time as a top Congressional aide for abortion advocates. Now the MSNBC host has gone overboard by referring to pro-life advocates who oppose pro-abortion Health Secretary nominee Kathleen Sebelius as terrorists.

Macomb police and federal bomb experts continued Monday to investigate the discovery of a homemade bomb outside a Macomb bar popular with university students. William Gass, a detective for the Macomb Police Department, told reporters Monday morning that the bomb was first discovered about 8 p.m. Friday on the hood of a car parked outside the Change of Pace, 301 N. Campbell St. The owner of a car, a man visiting Macomb over the weekend, tossed it in the alley, not realizing what it was, Gass said. The man, whom Gass said had been drinking, encountered the device when he...

Call him "Gov. Unpopular." A Marist College poll released today shows that Gov. Paterson has the lowest approval rating of any New York governor in the 30-year history of the survey. The Democrat is in a race for his political life -- dropping 20 percentage points since the January poll with just 26 percent of voters say he's doing a "good or excellent job."

Singer Phil Collins said his life now revolves around the Alamo. Collins is in town, set to appear at local events commemorating the anniversary of the siege and battle of the Alamo. Though he's mulling the idea of recording a tribute cover album of 1960s songs, he said he's making the Alamo “my main thing” as a collector, history buff and possible author. “Basically, now I've stopped being Phil Collins the singer. This has become what I do,” he said Monday, standing beside a 13-foot-by-15-foot model of the 1836 Alamo compound that will open to the public this week. Collins,...

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - It'll be Barry Manilow versus the mall rats. The New Zealand city of Christchurch hopes that putting the American crooner's smooth and gentle tones into the mix of music to be broadcast through the central mall district can pacify unruly teens who congregate there, or at least convince them to go elsewhere. "The intention is to change the environment in a positive way ... so nobody feels threatened or intimidated," Central City Business Association manager Paul Lonsdale told The Associated Press. "I did not say Barry Manilow is a weapon of mass destruction."

Back to the future: Stocks' fall may be a milestone As U.S. stocks on Tuesday tried and then failed to bounce back from the prior day's stumble to 12-year lows, analysts, technicians and would-be historians debated the significance of the fall, which may or may not signal an important market milestone. On Tuesday, financials were pacing a slide that came as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke answered questions about the economy and the government's efforts to bolster the financial system. After rising 70-plus points early on, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 5.63 points to 695.19, and the Nasdaq Composite...

Sad, but true A dog had followed his fourth grade owner to a public elementary school. However, when the bell rang, the dog sidled inside the building and made it all the way to the child's classroom before a teacher noticed and shooed him outside, closing the door behind him. The dog sat down, whimpered and stared at the closed doors. Then God appeared beside the dog, patted his head, and said, 'Don't feel bad fella'...they won't let ME in either'.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The United States has one of the world's most advanced but also most complicated health care systems, plagued by widespread waste and costs that have escalated as the US population ages, experts say. Venturing where others have failed, President Barack Obama is now proposing to spend 634 billion dollars on reforms aimed at expanding health care coverage among the nearly 46 million uninsured Americans. How he should do it -- and whether it should be done at all -- are likely to be the subject of fierce debate. But, in the words of one economist, the system...

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama was set to make a speech Tuesday at the Interior Department, where sources said he would shelve a Bush-era rule that critics say weakened protections for threatened and endangered species. In December, the Bush administration finalized regulations that allow agencies to decide for themselves whether highways, dams, mines and other construction projects might harm animals and plants listed under the Endangered Species Act. The Bush-era rule reduces the mandatory, independent reviews government scientists have performed for 35 years. It also prohibits federal agencies from assessing a project's contribution to global warming when they evaluate its...

Microsoft founder Bill Gates has banned all Apple products from his home -- but doesn't mean his wife doesn't still crave an iPhone. In an interview in the current issue of Vogue magazine, Melinda Gates said that there are "very few things that are on the banned list in our household. But iPods and iPhones are two things we don't get for our kids." She also admitted to be intrigued by the iPhone, which combines a touch-screen music player and Web browser with a fully-functioning mobile phone.
