You have to understand, my relationship with the city of Los Angeles is much like the one I have with my family. I love it and wouldn't know what to do without it despite the fact that it often acts as if its sole purpose is to drive me insane.
The last few days were spent enjoying the most amazing aspect of living here: weather that hardly ever sucks. Today, however, I get to participate in one of the more maddening processes the city puts us through: a "nonpartisan" city primary.
Here in the Age of Oprah, life is supposed to be all about the feel-good. We even have a feel-good president now, hand picked by Oprah herself. Criticism and logic have been cast aside when it comes to assessing politics now; as long as you feel good the policy is worthwhile.
A byproduct of the Oprahfication of America is that partisan politics has been given a dirty name. Anything that can be labeled "bipartisan" or "nonpartisan" is now automatically given a free pass as being something good.
