(WASHINGTON) — A manufacturer of the blood thinner heparin initiated a nationwide recall Friday because some products may contain a potentially dangerous contaminant. Contaminated heparin from a different manufacturer has been associated with 19 deaths and hundreds of allergic reactions. In the recall announced Friday, B. Braun Medical Inc. said it was recalling 23 lots of heparin as a precautionary measure. No adverse events have been reported in connection with their product, company officials said in a press release. The company issued the recall after one of its suppliers, Wisconsin-based Scientific Protein Laboratories, disclosed that an ingredient it provided contained...

Barack Obama has based his entire candidacy on one thing. He wanted to be the first African-American to run for the presidency keeping the issue of race as far into the background as possible. And he almost succeeded in pulling the wool over America's eyes. His good looks and charismatic appeal made many people view him as the next JFK. Some even thought of him as the second coming of Jesus Christ. We've all seen the pictures of him wowing the crowds with his oratories, women swooning, men cheering. And these were people of all races and creeds, desperate for...

ARTICLE SYNOPSIS: Sold to the American people in 1949 as a buffer against possible Soviet expansion to the West, NATO has always been a creature of the United Nations. It is now being employed as an armed force for the world body, just as was intended from its outset. COMMENTARY: Afghanistan is immensely distant from what has always been known as the North Atlantic region. Yet forces from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are now conducting the military operations in that country. This situation came about because NATO is a United Nations subsidiary and is, once again, being employed...

Barack Obama is just slightly ahead of Hillary Clinton in the race for the nomination - but he's blowing her out of the water in the dash for campaign cash. Obama ended February with roughly $20 million more in the bank than Clinton, who was running perilously low on critical primary-election funds, recently released federal fund-raising records show. Last month, Clinton raised $35 million for her White House bid, marking her best fund-raising period yet. But the records show Clinton ended February with very little remaining money. According to the filings, Clinton had $33 million in the bank on Feb....

(NEW ORLEANS) - A group of Gulf Coast hurricane victims sued the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday for sheltering them in trailers that allegedly exposed them to dangerous fumes. The complaint filed in federal court adds FEMA as a defendant in a batch of consolidated cases against several manufacturers that provided the agency with tens of thousands of trailers and mobile homes after hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. The cases against trailer makers were consolidated in November 2007 and transferred to U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt in New Orleans. However, FEMA couldn't be named as a defendant in...

A Message From Presidential Candidate Dave Burge As a candidate for the presidency of this great nation of ours, it has been my privilege to meet and hear the concerns of voters from across the political spectrum. If there's anything I've learned along the way it's this: whether they agree with you or not, the American people want candor and straight talk about the issues of the day. That's why I would like to take this opportunity to have an open conversation about the Gimp I have chained in my basement...

Two of Britain's most dangerous Islamic terrorists moved to new prison - because they complained fellow inmates were 'too white' Two of Britain's most dangerous terrorists have been moved to different prisons after complaining their fellow inmates were "too white". Dhiren Barot and Omar Khyam asked to be transferred from high-security Frankland prison near Durham. Barot masterminded a radioactive bomb plot involving limousines packed with nails and explosives and Khyam plotted to blow up Bluewater shopping centre in Kent. They said they were at risk from other inmates - who are predominantly white - and claimed the environment was "dangerous"...

New York's famed Plaza Hotel reopened in March after a $400 million, two-year lobby-to-roof renovation. Every room features 24-karat gold-plated sinks and fixtures. And inside every Louis XV-inspired nightstand sits a Bible, courtesy of the Gideons. The same goes for the Motel 6 in Abilene, Texas, where you pull off I-20 onto Shirley Road, park at your room's front door, open the drawer of the nightstand, and there it sits, the Bible, courtesy of the Gideons. Since 1908, sixty years before the Beatles' Rocky Raccoon went into his room, only to find it, the Gideon - distributed Bible has been...

By Rowan Scarborough, Insight An American Muslim group identified as an unindicted co-conspirator in a criminal terrorism case is being used by the FBI to train its agents about Islam. The FBI declined to respond to Insight’s questions about this seeming disconnect, as one of the pre-eminent anti-terrorist research centers in America is set to release an extensive report on the same prominent U.S. Muslim group, accusing the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) of being a foe, rather than an ally, in the war on terror. The 10-part report on CAIR from The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), led by...

(BEIJING) - China recorded 5.1 road accident deaths for every 10,000 motor vehicles last year, the highest in the world, Xinhua news agency said on Friday. The world average was two deaths per 10,000 vehicles, the agency said, quoting a source at a China Traffic Safety Forum. "According to the Ministry of Public Security, since 1996 China has ranked first worldwide in terms of traffic deaths," Xinhua said. Road accidents claimed 81,649 lives nationwide last year in a population of 1.3 billion, 7,806 fewer than in 2006. China's roads have long been dangerous, a result of drivers who switch lanes...

...Sure enough, that's what Body Worlds is all about. The cadavers, (relatively) whole or in parts, are fascinating, sometimes beautiful and inspiring, and remarkably low in ick factor. They could be plastic or ceramic; when you see them, you have to keep reminding yourself that they're dead people, and then you get to pat yourself on the back for how well you're taking this. A practically skinless man is leaping over a hurdle, though given the lack of clearance, he is perpetually headed toward really hurting his private parts. His aerodynamically sliced brain, however, seems like overkill. There's no apparent...

This week the nation marked the fifth anniversary of our presence in Iraq. It is past time to remember the liberators. Now at the end of their third tour they are preparing to leave: the 1st "Raider" Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division deployed to Al Anbar province 15 months ago as an element of the "surge" force. Its commander, Col. John W. Charlton, is responsible not only for his Army units, but also for Navy, Marine and Air Force personnel operating with them. His area of operations -- AO Topeka -- covers 8,900 sq. miles. From the outset his focus was...

That triumphal barnburner of an Easter hymn, Jesus Christ Has Risen Today – Hallelujah, this morning will rock the walls of Toronto's West Hill United Church as it will in most Christian churches across the country. But at West Hill on the faith's holiest day, it will be done with a huge difference. The words “Jesus Christ” will be excised from what the congregation sings and replaced with “Glorious hope.” Thus, it will be hope that is declared to be resurrected – an expression of renewal of optimism and the human spirit – but not Jesus, contrary to Christianity's central...

...It took approximately five minutes for reporters to figure out that one of Paterson’s ex-girlfriends was a $150,000 employee in the governor’s office of — yes! — intergovernmental affairs. This poor woman not only had no warning, she had apparently been happily engaged in putting stickers on other people’s office doors, announcing who was in and who was out. ...This week all sorts of additional Paterson revelations have popped up in the local news media, like a credit card bill for a motel room charged to “constituent services” and mysterious payments to a woman who worked for his office in...
