(AP) — COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton said Thursday that she would ask her husband, President Clinton, to do some campaigning for her if she moves forward with a New York Senate race. "He knows a lot about New York,'' she said. "He's done very well in New York and I would look forward to his campaigning for me if I decide to run ... (and) if I can get on his schedule.'' Meeting with reporters on the second day of her inaugural campaign tour of New York, Mrs. Clinton said she would serve a full six-year ...

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - The 1999 presidential primary calendar, which ``front-loads'' key contests into the first two weeks of March, could work against Texas Gov. George W. Bush if he faces Vice President Al Gore in the 2000 election, Republican officials said Thursday. With six months still to go before next February's Iowa caucus, members of the Republican National Committee (RNC) meeting in Philadelphia say the current primary schedule will determine the party's nominee by St. Patrick's Day, on March 17, if not earlier. ``The problem is keeping the presumptive nominee, say George W. Bush, relevant from next March to the ...

08 July 1999 'ENGAGEMENT' WITH CHINA DOESN'T WORK. NOW WHAT? (Reprinted from July 8, 1999 Wall Street Journal) (980) By Senator Jesse Helms Thanks to the Cox report's revelations, Americans now know that Communist China has moved almost overnight from a 1950s nuclear capability to the most modern, advanced technology in the American nuclear arsenal. It is the most devastating intelligence failure in American history. But while the details of the report have been widely discussed, one question remains unanswered: What are we going to do about it? China's apologists in Washington have quickly circled their wagons in an attempt ...

WASHINGTON — First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, breaking with U.S. official policy, told an Orthodox Jewish organization based in New York that she considers Jerusalem ''the eternal and indivisible capital of Israel.'' She also promised that, if New Yorkers elected her to the U.S. Senate, she would support a strong Israel and favor moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, she said. She took the unorthodox policy positions in a letter to the Orthodox Union dated July 2 and obtained by Reuters Thursday. The Orthodox Union represents about 750 orthodox Jewish synagogues across the United States. U.S. ...

What Do You Do with a Cool Trillion? Clinton's plans for the budget surplus could sharply limit spending options for years to come Funny how $1 trillion focuses the mind. Until recently, Washington was locked in an endless debate over the role of government in an era of deficits. Even in 1998, when surpluses first appeared, pols still were playing the same old game: What Democratic spending programs would have to be cut to fund which GOP tax cuts? How should Social Security be trimmed to assure its solvency? But thanks to the massive tax receipts being generated by ...

Foul Air in South Phoenix PHOENIX, July 7 - A number of Phoenix residents reported a sudden influx of foul air in the Valley of the Sun this afternoon, particularly after 4PM local time in the poor neighborhoods of South Phoenix. Citizens with breathing difficulties, especially those suffering from truth and liberty privations, were among the first to complain about sudden increase in air pollution levels. The Phoenix area radio and TV stations were at first at a loss to explain the reasons for this unusual phenomenon. While the Arizona summer heat has been predictably oppressive, the temperatures have been ...

America's Founding Fathers were emphatically Christian. They relied heavily on The Holy Bible. Only a Moral and Virtuous people are capable of regulating their own behavior from within (as by The Ten Commandments of Moses or the Teachings of Jesus) to live in a Free Society. Take away the Moral Standards, and you take away the ability to have a Free Society. Big Brother is only too happy to obligue. Mr. Fedderer's book documents directly the words of our Founding Fathers. It is no mystery why we seem to need a Police State, nor why so many seem to welcome ...

NEW YORK (AP) — MSNBC has canceled newsman John Hockenberry's nightly talk show after six months on the air, the second time the correspondent has lost a show on the network in two years. Hockenberry announced on the air Wednesday that the next night's show would be his last. One of his final discussion topics, he told viewers, might be why cable TV "sucks.'' He did not immediately return a call to his office Thursday. MSNBC spokesman Cory Shields confirmed the cancellation but had no further comment. MSNBC, which is struggling in prime time against Fox News Channel, is expected ...

For someone running a campaign fo a New York Senate seat, Hillary's press corps seems intent on keeping up her exposure at the National level. Why? Resources for courting the press are finite, even for a First Lady. Why not focus in New York? Why the constant barrage of Hillary-fluff at network level? I think Hillary is playing a bigger game. IMHO, if she can prove "electability", I think she'll try for the VP slot at the Democratic convention, claiming that the Dems will lose the White House without her on the ticket.

SOMEWHERE IN EUROPE - The Winston Churchill Division, Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, Europe - totally revolted by the smarminess and content of the Hillary for Senate site, has, in the interests of accuracy, set up a new site which more directly spells out what Hillary Clinton is all about. The site, located at www.hillarycampaign.org, is intended to be an answer back to Ms. Rodham, in the sternest, yet most satirical terms. The site will continue to expand over time - "It'll grow as fast as her ego." one member stated. Also, the Al 2000 site will continue to flourish in ...

With the antigun lobby losers after the US House of Representatives failed to pass any of their own, and the Senate's, suggested gun control measures, now seems like the time to remind people how lucky we are because of that. Surely the Clintons, McCarthys, O'Donnells and Shalalas of this world aren't about to shut their traps after the defeat of the proposals they supported. Alas they will scream and holler right into the 2000 general elections, trying once again to chip away at your individual liberty. They will do it for safety. They will do it for the children. ...

ANYONE buying a knife will have to place their details on a national register under plans being drawn up by ministers to reduce crime. The purchaser of any type of bladed instrument - from a penknife to a sword or from a fish knife to a machete - will be asked by shopkeepers for details of their name, address and proof of identification. Although the register would be voluntary, anyone who refused to give the information would be told they could not buy the knife. Jack Straw, the Home Secretary, is favouring a nationwide extension of the register after wounding ...

TIRANA, Albania, July 8 (UPI) - Albania's president, on a state visit to neighboring Macedonia, has made public his country's interest in an independent Kosovo and Montenegro. The statements today seemed to worry Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov, whose own country peacefully broke from Yugoslavia a decade ago and has ever since been affected by regional ethnic wars - the most troubling being the Kosovo conflict that forced hundreds of thousands of ethnic Albanian refugees into Macedonia. State-run Radio Tirana describes the leaders as having different stands on the volatile issue. Albania wants Kosovo and Montenegro - the pro-Western Yugoslav ...
