  • Hubbel failed to pay ***SOME*** Taxes!

    The Duke | June 30, 1999 | The Duke
En route home from work tonight I was listening to the news report on the radio. They first reported the temperature at exactly 91 degrees, they then reported exactly how much the DOW had changed today. Only, when it came to Webster Hubbel's guilty plea it was only reported that he failed to report "some" taxes. It was so painfully obvious to me that Hubbell's crimes are being deliberately minimized by the news media that I just had to point it out and bring it up for discussion. You see, had they reported exactly how much in taxes were not ...

  • Clinton-like character shown as sexual predator in movie --Lawn Dogs

This weekend we watched a movie on STARZ titled "Lawn Dogs." I would give the movie mixed reviews. However, I think it is of significance that a character in the movie who has an affair with the heroine’s mother looks like Clinton, acts like him and is clearly a psychopath and sexual predator. I was shocked when I saw the Clinton likness. Although it was perhaps subtle, this was the nastiest treatment I have seen of Clinton by Hollywood. STARZ typically runs movies for at least a week, but seems to have pulled this one early.

New troubles in Kosovo and Metohija Pristina - KFOR troops on Tuesday could not guarantee to inhabitants of Orahovac the safety for evacuation. Therefore the evacuation of 5 000 Serbs from Orahovac, who received aid in food and medicines three days ago, was postponed again. Ethnic-Albanian terrorists, who somewhat calmed down last night, starting from Tuesday apply a new tactics for driving Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija. Dressed in uniforms of peacekeepers they enter into apartments of Serbs and drive out their owners. In Pristina on Tuesday morning, as we acknowledged in the Center for peace and tolerance, 50 ...

How to INCREASE the Already High Cost of Prescriptions for Seniors The last time Bill Clinton introduced a Health Care Plan, it took the American people a little time to realize that adopting it would be a bit like putting the fox in the chicken coop to protect the hens. His new proposal is a farce. Those of us old enough to be involved in the Medicare system are told we ought to really be excited by a plan which would pay a maximum of $1,000 a year for prescription drugs for a $288 a year premium. I compared that ...

***ONE SURE BET AND A NUMBER OF TANTALIZING POSSIBILITIES*** ========================================================= It always seems wise to stop somewhere short of presuming that what is obvious now will remain obvious a year from now. For that reason, smart prognostication would seem to require restraint on the question of the major party nominees for Campaign 2000. I have considered myself prudent in saying things like "Bush isn't the nominee yet" and "Bradley might catch Gore." Well, forget it. It's Bush and Gore. Only a major political train wreck will keep these men from their appointed battle on Nov. 7 of next year. Do ...

WASHINGTON — Republican George W. Bush reported he raised more than $35.5 million for his presidential campaign in the six-month period ending Wednesday, nearly triple the record and about twice as much as Democratic front-runner Al Gore. "I'm humbled by the response,'' Bush told reporters in disclosing the figure on a campaign trip to California. "I'm amazed by the outpouring of support. I have a lot of friends.'' Bush said the amount, the most ever collected in the first six months of a presidential fund-raising season, may prompt him to forgo federal matching funds along with the spending limits ...

We are blessed to be Americans, not just in times of prosperity, but at all times. We are a part of something noble; a great experiment to prove to the world that democracy is not only the most effective form of government, but the only moral government. And, at least in years past, we felt more than lucky to be Americans. We felt proud. But, today, we confront a very serious challenge to our political system, as dangerous in its way as war and depression have been in the past. And it will take the best efforts of every public-spirited ...

Some of you may know that I called for a rally this Saturday (July 3rd) in support of slain Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, who was murdered by Mumia Abu-Jamal. At the request of the family of Officer Faulkner, which was relayed to me by a representative of the FOP, I am cancelling this rally. I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. I called for the rally in order to counter an action by people who are calling for death-row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal to be released. Their plan is to hold a rally without a permit, ...

Lots of good links. Well worth the read and bookmark. Suing Gun Makers June 27, 1999 In 1994, when states started demanding that tobacco companies compensate them for the cost of treating smoking-related illness under Medicaid, critics wondered how many other industries could be sued on similar grounds. Don’t be silly, these worrywarts were told. Cigarettes are unique. Yet even before the states had wrapped up their tobacco litigation in a $206 billion package, Round 2 had begun: Last fall, two major cities filed suit against manufacturers of firearms, seeking compensation for costs associated with gun violence. New Orleans claims ...

NEW YORK — First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, poised to announce formally the creation of a committee to explore a 2000 run for the U.S. Senate in New York, is in a virtual dead heat with her likely opponent, New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, according to a poll released Wednesday. A Quinnipiac College Polling Institute survey of 1,131 registered voters in the state found that Clinton was preferred by 46 percent of respondents and Giuliani by 44 percent, with a margin of error of 2.9 percent. The poll was conducted June 22-28. The poll marked the first time ...

AT LEAST 10,000 protesters gathered in the central Serbian town of Cacak yesterday, demanding an end to the rule of Slobodan Milosevic. Demonstrators defied police warnings that the rally was unauthorised, in another sign that support for the Yugoslav president is dropping in the aftermath of Belgrade's catastrophic struggle with Nato. Leaders of the Alliance for Change, the umbrella group that called the protest, said Serbia's defeat had demoralised Mr Milosevic's ruling Socialists and their ultra-nationalist allies. "They are afraid of us because we are coming and they are going," said Goran Svilanovic, head of the Civic Alliance. "We are ...

RON SMITH WBAL RADIO BALTIMORE www.wbal.com Something to Say Commentary Wednesday, June 30, 1999 Decadence I once read that America has gone from adolescence to decadence without ever maturing, thus at least partially contradicting Oswald Spengler’s thesis that the historical forms of government follow a logical sequence just like an individual; birth, growth, maturity, dissolution, and finally death. The thought made an impression on me, and I’m beginning to believe it is absolutely true. The decadence part is easy to substantiate for most of us. It’s only extreme modern liberals who believe that our society is on the right track, ...
