HERE is a tale of two protests. The first occurred in December, when University of Washington students took to the streets to denounce the resounding passage of Initiative 200 (which abolished government race and gender preferences). The students' post-election demonstration paralyzed traffic for more than an hour on the Highway 520 bridge. It also caused backups on I-5, as far north as Lake City Way. This massive disruption made headlines and garnered extensive local TV news coverage. It involved 150 marchers - none of whom was arrested. The other protest occurred in November, a day before the fall elections. ...

"Truth is something outside yourself, something to be discovered, and not...something you can make up as you go along." —George Orwell, 1944 "There are no facts."—Michel Foucault, 1968 Lying is ancienter than Croesus, as old as humanity itself. But there is something new about lying today—something in the way it is viewed and received. Writing about the disgraceful prevarications flowing from the White House of late, Christopher Hitchens suggests that what ought to trouble us even more than the dishonesties is "the praise and approbation that certain lies now receive from the wised-up." The change in the way lies ...

Following is an excerpt from the "solution" part of an article that will be posted at PROFESSIONALS' MONTHLYComments are welcome! Thanks. "Victors never commit war crimes", so say the former military types who now find jobs practicing punditry on twenty four hour, ceaseless babble, time and again television. Maybe this is the sort of rhetoric that drummed-up support to finish off some Nazis but in the same way we say that we cannot allow atrocities to be committed in Europe, is it possible that now, victors can commit war crimes? Times have changed, right? Is it illogical that there can ...

When Janet Reno sent in the FBI to fry the women and children in the Branch Davidian home, I was in Italy covering the Lega Nord. Stunned by what I read in the Italian press, I told my friends that a turning-point in American history had been reached: if the American people did not rise up and throw the rascals out, if Janet Reno and her colleagues were not put on trial for murder, there would be no hope of restoring the republic. The Italians were not shocked by my remarks: they assumed the worst. Intelligent Europeans were already learning ...

"JANES DEFENCE WEEKLY" that authorative magazine which tells all about military weapons of all types and how they work, and which nations have them, announced that the Pentagon has been hoping for the chance to experiment with a new state-of-art cluster bomb. Apparently the Serbian people proved to be just the right target the Department of Defense was waiting for. Judging by the number of women, children, old men and just plain ordinary folks whose lives were ended in a hail of shrapnel, the new "breed" of clulster bombs is a howling sucess. Nor has the DoD hesitated to use ...

I'm sure that selling nuclear secrets is probably a "no-brainer" way for a corrupt administration to make the very biggest bucks, but now that those horses are out of the barn I thought maybe we could come up with some ideas for the next scam artist to occupy the "Oral" Office. For example, how about selling favorable legislation to American Indian tribes hoping to start gambling casinos (or hoping to keep other tribes from opening competing casinos)? How about giving friends overseas the contract to print US currency so that they can print up a little personal "walkin' around" money ...

Recent publicity surrounding the Clinton sex scandal and the approach of November elections seem to be bringing the cyberloons out of the woodwork. Conspiracy theories, innuendo, and outright political lies are proliferating via the Internet faster than anyone can keep up with them. The most egregious example is the Clinton 'Body Count' message, a list of 50 or so names of Clinton "friends" who allegedly died under "strange" circumstances. The message implies without making direct accusations or citing sources that Bill Clinton is responsible for the murders of dozens of people who may have been in possession of "incriminating ...

The NATO campaign against Yugoslavia is the war of many names: according to Bill Clinton is it is a) the war to stabilize the European economy for American business interests), b) the war to punish Slobodan Milosevic for ethnic cleansing, c) the war to restore the Albanian refugees--who were driven out of Kosovo by the NATO bombing. We’ve learned by now that Bill Clinton can never tell the truth about anything, even by accident. To get a glimmer of the truth we have to turn to more reliable sources, like for example the British conservative Roger Scruton, who (writing in ...
