Was Rassmann even on Kerry's Boat?
FOX News | 8/13/04 | Fox News

Posted on 08/13/2004 3:36:49 PM PDT by Jewels1091

Fox news just reported there are questions now about where Rassmann actually was. He said he was on Kerry's boat when it got ambushed, but Kerry's web site says Rassmann was on the boat behind his. Just more questions about kerry's seemingly faulty memory.

Does the fact that Bill O'Reilly wrote a complementary blurb for Doug Brinkley's bio of Kerry "Tour of Duty" explain why Bill O hasn't covered the Swift Boat Vets for Truth story with an open mind?

Rassman is retired from the Los Angeles County sheriff department. He has been on sKerry's payroll since January and accompanies the campaign whereever it goes. He has a piece in the WSJ Opinion Journal last week. It was very slickly written and contained every talking point of the sKerry campaign knows to mankind. I doubt that he actually wrote it himself.

I thought I read that Rassmann was on PCF-3 which was hit by a mine. About 5 minutes later kerry's boat returned to the scene and fished Rassmann out of the water.

Kerry's Bronze Star citation indicates that the man he rescued was knocked off of his boat

It says a man went overboard from Kerry's boat, it says noting about any other men overboard. It says Kerry rescused a man from the water, but does not say it was the man that was knocked out of his boat.

Anyway, differing on that point is not as big a deal as this: the citation says the was enemy fire. Not all of the men there agree, in fact, I think a majority of the men there assert there was no enemy fire, only the mines.

Kerry is a lying sack.

This is amazing. They have impeached their own story forcing further investigation .. and if I understand it, Unfit for Command describes this as the incident where Kerry fled (read: coward).

Rassman has been on sKerry's payroll since January.

I know of no evidence for that. Careful about making assertions that you don't have evidence for, they might become the focal point for argument.

Only passing on what I read on the old 'net'. The sKerryites would lie about it if asked, I'm sure. They are out to destroy the swifties. It remains to be seen if they will succeed. Watching sKerry's hit men attacking on the various talk is indeed skarry...

There has been constant commenting on whether Rassmann was on Kerry's boat or another boat.

I have heard both stories......but what is clear is that the man was in the water praying not to die and I doubt he got a good look at what was going on all around him with the other boats.

Well was it sniper fire or machinegun fire?

You are correct....Rassmann heard OUR guys shooting and thought it was the enemy, so he thinks Thurlow is lying when he says there ws no enemy fire! What Rassmann will not admit to is that he FELL off the boat when Kerry boogied out of the Kill Zone!

Any bullet holes in the boats?? "If there ain't no holes, there weren't no FOES".

Rassmann says he was on Kerry's boat but other material says otherwise, including an official Kerry campaign release.

Campaigning vet credits Kerry for saving his life

"..Rassman was a Green Beret in Vietnam when the river boat he was riding hit a mine in the Hap River and came under heavy enemy fire from the banks. A short distance ahead, then-Navy Lt. Kerry was in command of a Swift Boat also under attack. Kerry, wounded in the arm, ordered his boat to turn around. He directed his gunners to provide suppressing fire, then moved into an exposed position on the bow to pull Rassman out of the water..."

Kerry Reunites with Fellow Veteran in Iowa(Kerry Press Release)

"..On March 13, 1969, Rassmann, a Green Beret, was traveling down the Bay Hap river in a boat behind Kerry’s when both were ambushed by exploding land mines and enemy fire coming from the shore. Kerry was hit in the arm, while a mine blew Rassmann’s boat out of the water. With enemy fire coming from both sides of the river and swift boats evacuating from the area, Kerry’s crew chose to turn their boat toward the ambush to save Rassmann..."

Perspective: What John Kerry did in the war

".. On March 13, 1969, Jim Rassmann, a U.S. Army Green Beret, was traveling in a group of Swifts down the Bay Hap River when one, the PCF-3, struck a mine and was immediately raked by gunfire from the shore. Everyone aboard was injured.

As Kerry's boat headed toward the damaged vessel, a second mine exploded nearby, throwing him against a bulkhead and injuring his arm. The explosion also tossed Rassmann out of a third vessel, the PCF-35. In the confusion and heavy gunfire from both sides of the battle, Rassmann began drifting down the river, where snipers saw him and tried to pick him off..."

Shame on the Swift Boat Veterans for Bush

"..While returning from a SEA LORDS operation along the Bay Hap River, a mine detonated under another swift boat. Machine-gun fire erupted from both banks of the river, and a second explosion followed moments later. The second blast blew me off John's swift boat, PCF-94, throwing me into the river. Fearing that the other boats would run me over, I swam to the bottom of the river and stayed there as long as I could hold my breath..."

I don't see the Kerry campaign deliberately omitting the "fact" that Rassman was on Kerry's boat in their press release of January 17, 2004. It would embellish the story as I believe Rassman did in his Wall Street Jounal piece.

So now, besides Kerry himself lying about his own actions, *two* of Kerry's campaign storytellers have dubious memories about the exploits of JF'inK.

A foul voice was heard on the wind
Nuanced spells spoken in desperation:

One tale to rule them all,
One tale, I need to find them,
One tale to bring them all
And in the lie to bind them.

Kerrys version sounds like "Apocalypse now" but in reality Kerrys boat was more like McHales navy.

Well, while McHale and crew were unorthodox and committed to having a good time, there didn't appear to be the slightest hint of cowardice and vainglory to what they were doing. Of course, I haven't seen the show since childhood. I imagine Kerry's boat was more like Ens. Charles Parker's Navy.

Rassmann's travel and living is most likely paid by Kerry's campaign. But I don't think Rassmann is literally "on the payroll."

Since Rassmann has a pension, and supposedly was supporting himself before he connected with the Kerry campaign early this year (or whenever), he doesn't need a job -- and it's fair to pay his flight/bus hotel and meal expenses.

That CNN transcript is great! First time I've read it. I just don't Rassmann holding up to the pressure of one-on-a-few confrontation.

"Kerry dropped to his hands and knees ... and pulled me aboard," Rassmann said. "The fighting continued until we got out of the kill zone, and we managed to get out to the Gulf of Siam."

So, Kerry was previously standing in the midst of the shooting?
Or was there any shooting?

Rassman's on the record with different stories. In all versions, however, he spends most of his time on the bottom of the river hoping to avoid being run over by one of our boats. So he was in no position to no whether or not there was any enemy fire. Or apparently which boat he really was on prior to ending up on the bottom.

I heard Jim Angle's report on that. It is very curious. One would think they knew whether they were on the boat together or on separate boats.

But we were on Seperate Boats TOGETHER.
