Pinellas Pasco Judge Greer set October 15, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. for her feeding tube to be removed. There's something wrong with Florida's exit protocols and the way the courts handle new information re: criminality (misrepresentation, attempted murder, etc.) affecting a case. There was no living will, only the assertion of a very suspect, so-called husband, his brother, etc. that Terri would not want to live on life support. Terri is not on life support, she is not comatose or PVS and she is not living "artificially". She does get sustenance from a feeding tube but only because she has been denied rehabilitation by her so-called husband after he won a malpratice lawsuit three years after her collapse (cause unknown but probably due to strangulation or physical abuse, or both) which is why Terri needs an army of supporters to spread her story from coast to coast. Terri has retained rights that are being sidestepped because she is disabled and has been denied rehabilitation! The technologies of rehabilitation have greatly improved exponentially yet Judge Greer has not let Terri have a chance to learn to eat or to be able to learn to speak/communicate again. Also new information bearing on the case which shows criminality on husband's side has not been considered by the 2nd District Court of Appeals who handed down Mandate for termination of Terri's feeding based upon testimony of criminal husband and brother as above stated. Who is next?

I wonder if the Florida Statutes provide a mechanism through which the profoundly incapacitated can exercise their constitutional right to live (which I thought was endowed by our Creator, not man). Can AG Crist address that question, please?

I "read" somewhere that he runs in 2004, but it is a "retain" or "remove" kind of ballot. In that so many from Pinellas Co. flooded the "remove feeding tube" poll last week and earlier, I would imagine that he has a loyal base of euthanasia "right-to-die" advocates behind him, particularly among the elderly wealthy in FL. Of course, he may not run again, deciding that the death of Terri will "cap off" his career of "caring and compassionate" service to his "liberal dream." Of course, there is no liberal dream, must a conservative nightmare.

I'm sorry, but based on what has been done to this PA family that sought a new life in FL, I have "no respect" for the FL courts, certainly not the "court" of George W. Greer.

So now Charles Crist (and presumably Bush as well?) is siding with Greer and the state against the Schindlers? Is that what is happening? Some earlier predicted that this would happen and would accelerate defeat for the forces of decency and "compassion."

What about Crist? Is he not what he has long claimed to be? How can a "prolife" attorney general argue for this law, particularly when the rights of the disabled person have been trampled on for the whole 13 years?

Even if Crist is bound to uphold the law, he could argue "for the law" but say the law had not been followed in this case.

I am afraid though that Crist will be of ZERO help in this matter. Another blow to the Schindlers, who never seem to get much "good news."

I still haven't read all of Crist's Amicus Curiae Memorandum of Law. Instead, I Googled Strickland v. Alderman, then the highly interesting Cruzan v. Harmon (Gray v. Romeo), & want to read them & discuss them with my "better half" tomorrow morning. I'll freepmail you, okay...

I just skimmed through the brief, and Crist is firmly on the side of the state of FL. That's the problem, it's the state of FL that will starve and dehydrate an innocent disabled person. Crist is unwilling to admit that the state of FL could be wrong in how it has applied the law. He is defending FL law no matter what.

I would imagine that some southern attorneys general in the 1950s would have defended state segregation laws in the same fashion. Federal law intervened in the matter of segregation, but it won't intervene in a single case about the rights of the disabled. As Dickens wrote years ago, "the law {and he could have been referring to FL in 2003} is an ass."
