He may be the president who governed during the Civil War, freeing the slaves, but under a new curriculum proposal for North Carolina high schools, U.S. history would begin years after President Lincoln, with the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes in 1877.

Toss out the Constitution and the founding of this nation.

Makes sense if you are a Communist into revisionist history.

Gives opportunity to play up socialist movements and revolutions.

you got that right

most teachers today , or the newer ones are totally thick on any subject.
They leave college and go straight into a school not knowing what they’re supposed to and when parents take an interest and then question the teacher.
The reaction from the school is how dare they question me I’m a teacher.

We watched are you smarter than a 5th grader.
The adult was a teacher and was asked a few questions.

She got only two right, two of which she got wrong was on history.
The questions on history was where is Bastille day celebrated and the teacher said Rome.
The guy running the show said don’t you teach history and she replied yes but I teach American history.

Next question was about American history and she then got that wrong.

How the hell did this teacher who now moved and works in Tampa ever get a job or even graduate school is beyond me.

THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TEACH THEM ABOUT OUR REVOLUTIONARY WAR, DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND CONSTITUTION, OR THE CIVIL WAR.

Well, duh, we obviously can't teach people about the Civil War! That happened back when states thought that their association with one another was voluntary. Since it's been established with extreme prejudice that they're just administrative serf-pens for the almighty feral government, it's now safe to study them.

Oh, I get it, anything older than 130 years is irrelevant.

Mark Levin, writing in “Liberty and Tyranny” points out that the Statist plan is to change history to support your aggenda and, if you can’t change it, to erase it all together.

Just another example of the Left hijacking of Society.

The Founding Fathers have fallen out of favor with the elites, therefore they should be forgotten.

So what is the answer? Lots of funny comments on this thread, but what can we do? We have 2-3 generations of Americans who really don’t know history. ( I didn’t learn it that well but I’m trying to learn now, but as a parent don’t have a lot of time.)

I’m not going to hold my breath that a bunch of parents who themselves don’t know history and are busy, overworked, stressed with life, etc, are going to take the time to storm the school boards and demand that proper history and government are taught, in any state.

So what is the short cut method of making sure kids learn their real history? I think other than a religious revival, this is the biggest threat to our nation today. If we could get the country back on track morally and get people educated on principles of liberty, we’d solve a lot of our other problems, and not be fighting the progressive agenda constantly, they would be defeated. If we don’t do this we’re going to lose it all permanently

To be sure but even so, it's my recollection when American history was taught in government schools, the "lesson" was that the north was compelled to chasten the South because of the South's adherence to slavery. Total bunk of course but to this day I'm sure similar rationales are taught.

I feel your pain. There is no shortcut, there is no easy button.

I remember a quote from one of my investment newsletters: “If a knife falls off the table, when do you reach for it. You don't. You let it hit the floor and then pick it up.”

The knife is still falling. Be prepared for when it hits the floor and be ready to pick it up then. I know that doesn't help..................

In the mean time if each of us can touch ONLY ONE young-en, we will have done our job.

Yeah, we wouldn't want the sheeple getting ideas from reading such tripe as this...

...would we. Let's bring back slavery, hoist the Union Jack, and just pretend those pesky colonists never had their little tea party. NOT!

“The South had agreed with France to abolish slavery if the French would join them in their battle to shake the chains of the the northern beast.”

Yes. The development of rail lines and industrialization following the war clearly showed that this was about control of the country’s future. Lincoln freed the slaves because he needed bodies. He also marched people fleeing the Irish potato famine right from the ships and into the war—right there on the dock.

It’s actually interesting that the gentrification and latisfundia/plantation effect has come back around full force. Everyone who works is a wage slave. Fewer people live in absurd luxury and wealth that would put the Old South to shame. Illiteracy and group think is prevalent.

Now, with almost no places to go stake out open territory or work it as a steward, like homesteading, what is left? This time, Americans are finding themselves in the concentration camp of the present effort to surround us on all sides by something that wants to both enslave our bodies and steal our souls.

Fundamentally remaking the United States, one life, one freedom and one loss of opportunity at a time...is happiness?

Why do I feel like everyone is flying off the deep end? I assume that some place in the curriculum covers pre 1877.

I will say this. History in schools is hardly ever taught past WWII. It seems like every year, we rushed through WWII at the end of April and the beginning of May. And then spent those last unfocussed weeks in May hitting the high points in a We Didn’t Start the Fire manner.
