Indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James was defiant Monday in her first public appearance since being hit with federal charges over allegations she committed bank fraud and lied to a financial institution to obtain a lower mortgage rate. “We see powerful voices trying to silence truth and punish dissent and weaponize justice for political gain,” James told supporters of Zohran Mamdani at a rally for the New York City mayoral frontrunner in Washington Heights. “We are witnessing the fraying of our democracy, the erosion of our system of government,” the Empire State’s top prosecutor argued, describing the current state...

A long weekend away from Washington, D.C., did little to soften Senate Democrats’ resolve as they again blocked an effort to reopen the government for an eighth time Tuesday. The beginning of mass firings promised by the Trump administration and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought over the weekend also failed to sway Senate Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. One pressure point was alleviated for both sides, however, with President Donald Trump’s directive to move money around at the Pentagon to pay military service members. Their paychecks are due Oct. 15. Still, another...

Space exploration has entered a new era where microbial discoveries challenge our understanding of life beyond Earth. The Chinese Tiangong station recently became the site of an extraordinary finding that reads like science fiction but represents very real scientific advancement. This discovery raises fundamental questions about biological adaptation in extreme environments. Niallia tiangongensis emerges from space station samples During routine operations in May 2023, the Shenzhou-15 crew collected samples from Tiangong’s habitation module that would later reveal something unprecedented. Scientists identified a completely new bacterial species, subsequently named Niallia tiangongensis after its birthplace among the stars. This microorganism represents the...

Los Angeles County leaders declared a local state of emergency in the region Tuesday, according to local officials. News of the proclamation was shared in a news release online by LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath's office. The measure was said to be a response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids across LA County, which is home to more than 10 million people and one of the U.S.'s largest immigrant populations. The county can now offer to support residents financially who have been impacted by the raids, including rent relief and accessing state funds for any legal aid. "What’s happening...

An excavation in eastern Norway has uncovered traces of a dwelling and thousands of artifacts marking a shift some 9,000 years ago from nomadic hunting and gathering to a more sedentary lifestyle featuring fishing and the development of new technologies. At the time, the dwelling sat on high ground near a cove. Archaeologist Silje Hårstad of the Museum of Cultural History told Science Norway that a variety of tools were recovered from the site, including half of a shaft-hole club. "It was round, slightly oval, with a distinct drilled hole in the middle where a shaft was once attached," she...

A multi-institutional research team working at the prehistoric site of La-Roche-à-Pierrot in Saint-Césaire identified the oldest known shell jewelry workshop in western Europe, according to a statement released by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Excavations uncovered a number of pierced shells as well as yellow and red pigments. However, it was the absence of wear marks and the presence of unperforated shells that led archaeologists to believe the site was used to manufacture finished products from raw materials. The shells came from the Atlantic coast, which was around 60 miles away at the time, while the pigments...

CBO’s review of the 2025 fiscal year shows Republicans have every reason to reject Democrats’ demands to end the ‘Schumer Shutdown.’Are you the kind of person who likes to spend $4 for every $3 you take in? If so, your financial management “skills” might qualify you to run for Congress. With people like that running the show, is it any wonder that interest costs on our national debt surpassed $1 trillion last year for the first time ever? The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) review of the fiscal year that just concluded on Sept. 30 provides one of many reasons why Republicans...

...as the fourth largest aircraft manufacturing hub...IN THE WORLD. BOOMITY I'll bet y'all didn't see that coming. Neither did anyone else, except for a few visionaries back in 2008. That was when Airbus, as part of European consortium EADS, worked with Northrup Grumman to get in on the new, next-generation Air Force tanker deal, promised to build the bulk of the airframes in the United States, and won the initial contract for the project. Long story short, screaming and kicking by Boeing, years of skullduggery and John McCain machinations went on, and by 2011, EADS and Airbus had lost the...

There's an old fable about a scorpion that convinces a frog to carry it across a river. The scorpion repeatedly promises it won't sting the frog, and finally convinces the amphibian to carry it across. When they reach the other side, the scorpion promptly stings the frog. The dying frog asks why, after all the promises, the scorpion stung. The scorpion replied, "I couldn't help it. It's in my nature."It's in the nature of Hamas to be murderous and brutal, and only a day after the signing of a historic peace deal between the terrorist group and Israel, Hamas is...

The first sentence of my intellectual biography of National Review’s co-founder read: “James Burnham began his intellectual career in the 1930s as one of Leon Trotsky’s leading American exponents and ended it as a senior editor for America’s preeminent conservative magazine, National Review.” At least it did until an editor changed “American exponents” to “U.S. exponents.” The clearest explanation for the change comes from an Atlantic journalist who decries using the term “America” as a synonym for the United States of America. Her article declares, “America is a region, not a country.” It even notes that people from Latin America...

SpaceX did it again. At 6:23 p.m. local time — eight minutes late, but who's counting? — the most powerful rocket in history, launched on a column of flame from Starbase, Texas, delivered its second stage to a hot separation, then minutes later made a perfect water landing in the Gulf of America. Even before the Super Heavy first stage had successfully completed its part of Integrated Flight Test 11 (IFT-11), the Ship second stage's six engines moved it to near-orbital velocity, initiating a series of flight, deployment, and engine tests before making its own water landing half a world...

The Supreme Court is leaning toward upholding the right of therapists to advise clients that changing their sexual orientation is viable Kaley Chiles is a Christian therapist who places the Bible at the center of her practice. To many of her patients, religious faith is often more important than Freud. They see Bible readings, prayer and a focus on spirituality along with traditional principles of psychotherapy as essential elements of any treatment plan. While outside the mainstream of psychoanalytic practice, Chiles’ technique combining traditional psychotherapy with Biblical precepts for years had been deemed non-controversial, if confined to more conservative regions...

British actress Frances Barber conceded Monday that she's changed her view on President Donald Trump following his role in brokering a peace deal between Israel and Hamas earlier this week. "I had TDS and I'm now eating my words," she wrote on X Monday, reposting a photo showing a "Thank You" message to Trump written on a Tel Aviv beach. The actress later confirmed in her comment section that the acronym she used in her post stood for "Trump Derangement Syndrome." Barber had previously been an outspoken critic of Trump, slamming the president on social media for being a "convicted...

Just hours after the 20 remaining living hostages were released by Hamas and brought back to Israel on Monday, the speaker of the Israeli parliament took off his yellow ribbon pin, an emblem of solidarity and an omnipresent reminder of the nation’s commitment to securing the captives’ return. As he turned to thank US President Donald Trump – who had arrived earlier to thunderous applause in the Knesset for brokering the ceasefire deal – Amir Ohana said he was “honored to take it off.” Ohana’s pin was given to him by the father of one of the newly released hostages....
