On October 14, 1947, a unique, terrifying sound pierced the air above California's Mojave desert. US Air Force pilot Chuck Yeager had carried out a feat which some believed to be impossible: he had broken the sound barrier by flying above Mach 1 (767mph), causing a sonic boom. The brilliant pilot did so in 'Glamorous Glennis', the experimental Bell X-1 plane which was named after his wife. Now, ahead of the anniversary of his famous accomplishment, an upcoming TV documentary sheds further light on how the pilot came extremely close to death when his plane spun out control on a...

Donald Trump's entire life has been made up of success and winning. He's a fighter that clearly loves America and would fight for our nation. Earlier I quoted Trump saying "I love America. And when you love something, you pro- tect it passionately--fiercely, even." We never hear that from Democrats or even from most Republicans. Donald Trump is saying things that desperately need to be said but no other candidate has shown the fortitude to stand up and say them. The criticisms of Trump are amazingly missing something. They are lacking in negative stories from those who work for him...

The state of Tennessee has suspended the handgun carry permit of James Yeager, CEO of Tactical Response, who recently said he would "start killing people" should President Obama take executive action on gun control. State officials explained they revoked the permit because of Yeager's "material likelihood of risk of harm to the public," according to a local TV station. Tactical Response is a Tennessee-based company that specializes in firearms and tactical training. "The number one priority for our department is to ensure the public's safety," wrote Commissioner Bill Gibbons. "Mr. Yeager's comments were irresponsible, dangerous, and deserved our immediate attention....

Sixty-five years after becoming the first human to fly faster than the speed of sound, retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager is still making noise. This time the 89-year-old Yeager, who was featured in the movie "The Right Stuff," flew in the back seat Sunday of an F-15 Eagle instead of the experimental rocket plane, Bell X-1, he piloted on the historic flight. The F-15 took off from Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas and broke the sound barrier at more than 30,000 feet above California's Mojave Desert where Yeager achieved the feat on Oct. 14, 1947.

The latest target in the battle over fast food is something you shouldn't even put in your mouth. Convinced that Happy Meals and other food promotions aimed at children could make kids fat as well as happy, county officials in Silicon Valley are poised to outlaw the little toys that often come with high-calorie offerings. The proposed ban is the latest in a growing string of efforts to change the types of foods aimed at youngsters and the way they are cooked and sold. Across the nation, cities, states and school boards have taken aim at excessive sugar, salt and...

Double jeopardy in before US Supreme Court HOUSTON A former Enron Corp. executive is hoping a little known component of the Fifth Amendment's double jeopardy clause will help him avoid a retrial on charges related to financial fraud at the once mighty energy giant. Attorneys for F. Scott Yeager are set to present oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday on the issue of whether double jeopardy prevents prosecutors from retrying individuals after a jury votes not guilty on some charges, but fails to reach a verdict on others that share an element with the acquitted charges. "Duncan is the only one I know who is running for President who is not trying to buy his way into the White House," Yeager said in a telephone interview last night from his home in California. A running joke has Duncan Hunter, the California congressman and Republican presidential candidate, so far to the conservative right that he even refuses to sit on the left side of his touring RV. When he hears this, after stopping in Greenwood Tuesday on his “Right Stuff” tour of South Carolina with retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Chuck Yeager, he lets go with a good, loud laugh. “Not yet,” he says of a potential seat on the left. Meanwhile, inside The Ranch House — Hunter’s Greenwood stop — there were lots of people standing around — women in power suits pounding...
