Conservative talk show host Vicki McKenna on WIBA Madison interviews constitutional attorney and retired Judge Jim Troupis, the leading Wisconsin expert on election recoun t law and procedure. He explains why it is impossible for Wisconsin elections to be "hacked" and why the hearing on a hand recount is unnecessary and should take no more than 1/2 hour. State Senator Neal Kedzie says his son was attacked while trying to stop someone from stealing his Romney/Ryan yard sign. Whitewater Police tell NBC15 News this is an active investigation. Here is the statement released by Senator Neal Kedzie: Early on Friday morning, October 19th, my son Sean was awakened by noises outside his residence in Whitewater. As he went to see what the commotion was about, he noticed an individual removing a Romney/Ryan yard sign from his property. He yelled to the person that they were taking something not theirs and to return it immediately. The individual returned the...

WAUKESHA, Wis.-- The largest crowd of the campaign so far for a Mitt Romney event welcomed home favorite son Rep. Paul Ryan at a massive rally here in the congressman's district Sunday night, pushing the GOP's vice presidential nominee to tears as he took the stage, setting off cheers with two simple words: "Hi mom." With that, voice cracking, Ryan showed his Wisconsin credentials to a crowd the Romney campaign hopes will be emblematic of the charismatic congressman's support in the Badger state, a reliably Democratic enclave the Republican candidate hopes to turn red this fall. "My veins run with...
  • Mark Levin: Make Scott Walker the Speaker of the U.S. House

    The Daily Caller ^ | June 7, 2012 | Jeff Poor
On his Wednesday radio program, conservative talker Mark Levin made what he called “a radical, but very rational suggestion”: Republicans should make Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker Speaker of the House, despite the fact that Walker is not a sitting congressman. Walker just survived a recall election in his state. According to Levin, to begin what he called an “80-to-100 year process” of restoring a constitutional government, it would be necessary to do something bold. “Now folks, revolutions don’t just happen,” he said. “A movement doesn’t just happen. So we need people in place in positions of power to carry out...

"Win" is too small a word for what Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker pulled off Tuesday. So, probably, is victory. In a referendum on the first half of his first term, the Republican became the first governor in U.S. history to defeat an attempt to oust him from office. The other two recall efforts -- against California's Gray Davis in 2003 and North Dakota's Lynn Frazier in 1921 --were successful. Exit polls discovered a significant number of Wisconsin voters bothered by the union-led recall bid for something short of improper conduct. While others were impressed by Walker's budget surplus and billion...

For Immediate Release June 6, 2012 Statement from Senator Van Wanggaard “Over 70,000 people voted yesterday in a historic election. We know that there are a number of outstanding absentee ballots, voting irregularities, and that there were problems across the county in the unofficial tally of ballots.” “People across the state and country have asked that I immediately ask for a recount. However, we all know that the best decisions are made when well-rested and after consideration of all options.” “We will closely monitor the canvass of votes with legal representation. We will evaluate our options regarding recounts following the...

On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” former Tennessee Democratic Rep. Harold Ford offered his theory on why last night’s Wisconsin recall election went in Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s favor: He “got a little lucky.” Ford’s co-panelist, former Vermont Democratic Gov. Howard Dean, blamed money and “Morning Joe” co-host Willie Geist asked why the Democratic side is unable to match the Republican side when it comes to money, since the rules are the same for everyone. “You know, it’s a good question, and it’s one that will play out and be answered over the coming months,” Ford replied. “I look...
  • Note to Talking Heads: Stop Citing the Recall Exit Polls!

The early draft of the exit polls this morning showed a 50-50 tie in the Wisconsin recall race. It's still early, but the best bet is that Scott Walker meets or exceeds his margins relative to 2010, which points to a 5-point win or better. This suggests that the early draft of the exit polls were biased toward the Democrats. Nevertheless, channel surfing across CNN and MSNBC just now, I notice talking head after talking head citing the exit polls in some way. Stop it. Clearly, they were wrong and they need to be updated. Until then, stick to the...

Updated 9:56 p.m. — WAUKESHA, Wis. — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker survived a furious recall campaign on Tuesday, emerging as the victor in a bitter fight over state budgets and collective bargaining rights. NBC News declared Walker the projected winner over Democratic challenger Tom Barrett in a closely-watched campaign first prompted after Walker drove a bill stripping public employee unions of their collective bargaining rights through Wisconsin's legislature showed little signs of abating, according to exit polls. The stark divisions that took hold after Walker drove a bill stripping public employee unions of their collective bargaining rights through Wisconsin's legislature...

  • Gwen Moore: Wisconsin Dems Have ‘Tremendous Ground Game"

    06/04/2012 5:05:48 PM PDT · by DallasBiff · 32 replies
Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) extolled the Democratic ground game in Wisconsin in an appearance on MSNBC Monday, and said it would launch Democratic nominee Tom Barrett to a win against Gov. Scott Walker, defying conventional wisdom that Walker is a lock to stay in office. “I do think that people have underestimated our ground game, and I think we’ve developed the critical mass of factors to lead us on to victory on Tuesday,” said Moore. “No. 1, Tom is surging with independents, such an important constituency for winning an election. Secondly, we have a number of switchers, of — you...
  • Over 206,000 absentee ballots requested ahead of Wisconsin recall election

Wisconsin election officials issued over 206,000 absentee ballots ahead of Tuesday's statewide recall election, the Government Accountability Board reported Monday. The absentee figure is often used to gauge the percentage of voters likely to come to the polls on election day. In a race where both sides insist turnout is key, the GAB predicts between 60 and 65 percent voter turnout, a record for a gubernatorial election. In the 2010 general election for governor, voters filed 230,744 absentee ballots total.

Those surprising results would project at a 56-44 final win for Walker. HOWEVER, while Walker continues to lead Barrett, we once again caution readers that this is an extremely difficult election to predict. Turnout is king in all elections, and it may be even more important in this one.

The Obama campaign is bracing for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to survive his recall election next week, denying that a victory means anything for President Obama's chances in the fall. "This is a gubernatorial race with a guy who was recalled and a challenger trying to get him out of office," Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said on MSNBC Wednesday. "It has nothing to do with President Obama at the top of the ticket." Asked whether the recall showdown means anything for the November general election, Cutter told host Chuck Todd, "No, I don't think so." Some Wisconsin Democrats...

This should put an end to any stories that Big Labor, the Democratic Party and other left wing organizations aren't going all out to recall Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. The John K. MacIver Institute for Public Policy, the organization that for months has been tracking the financial contributions of these groups through their Big Labor Big Money Matrix, today published the Liberal Mobilization Matrix. The Mobilization Matrix tracks the grassroots activities of more than fifty state, national and liberal organizations who are active in Wisconsin in the days leading up to the June 5th election.
