Earlier this week, Wegmans became the latest company to face a backlash for carrying Trump-owned products. The supermarket chain sells five different Trump Winery wines at its ten stores in Virginia, where the vineyard is located, and a local chapter of the National Organization for Women called on its notoriously loyal fanbase to boycott Wegmans unless it agreed to remove the products from stores statewide. The company responded that it bases inventory “solely on how well [a product] sells,” and welcomed shoppers to “demonstrate their convictions.” Seeing that as an encouraging sign, a group called Stop Trump Wine materialized with...

Did a threat to boycott Wegmans over products with President Donald Trump's name backfire? The Rochester-based grocery store chain came under fire this week for carrying Trump wines at its 10 Virginia locations. The bottles come from the Trump Winery in Charlottesville, Va., bought by Trump in 2011 and given to his son, Eric Trump. The National Organization for Women and other critics encouraged shoppers to take their business elsewhere, despite Wegmans' cult following and positive reputation. "Let's demonstrate through economic action that the residents and businesses of Charlottesville will not stand for the hatred espoused by Eric Trump and...

The popular grocery chain, Wegmans has ten stores in Virginia, where feminists are pushing a boycott of Trump wines and Wegmans for selling it. But don’t expect Wegmans to fold anytime soon. Since the boycott began the sale of Trump Wines has skyrocketed. Two stores are totally out and the other eight are almost totally out and Wegmans warehouse does not have a single case left.

In bars, restaurants and homes across Sweden champagne is flowing in abundance as Swedes enjoy a seemingly endless thirst for the bubbly beverage, spurred by a gastronomic "revolution" and a rosy economy. Champagne sales at stores run by the alcohol distribution monopoly Systembolaget are expected to hit an all-time high of one million bottles this year, excluding sales in bars and restaurants. That figure can be compared to 738,000 bottles sold last year and 287,000 a decade ago. "Drinking champagne is usual now and it's common not only at the weekend or to celebrate a special event, it's an everyday...

WINE buyers from around the world crowded into auction rooms in Paris yesterday to bid for nearly 5,000 bottles of Pétrus, Lafite-Rothschild, Margaux and other great crus that were bought for Jacques Chirac during his years as mayor.Bertrand Delanoë, the abstemious socialist mayor, is hoping to raise at least £500,000 from the two-day sale of three quarters of a cellar deemed far too lavish for official entertainment. For the budget-conscious Left, the Chirac cellar, accumulated during the his mayoral tenure from 1977 to 1995, symbolises the extravagance of a municipal regime that became a byword for lavish living and corruption....

NEW ORLEANS - Searing heat and lack of electricity throughout New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina ruined hundreds of thousands of bottles of rare wines by degrading corks and cooking the contents. Owners fear that even those bottles that appear to have survived the hurricane may hold spoiled wine. This city's once-vibrant culinary industry, already beaten back by disaster, has been further injured by damage to its wines. Losses are estimated to be as much as tens of millions of dollars. Private collectors, restaurants and distributors are preparing to destroy much of their stock. Insurance companies are just...

My daughter dragged me to Pike Place Market last weekend where we found some terrific wines at DeLaurenti's Italian food and wine shop. We sampled lovely Spanish wines and bought a mixed case. Our favorite was a dessert wine to literally die for. It is so good I'd become an instant alcholic if I brought a bottle home without a crowd to share it with: Casta Diva Cosecha Miel, "Honey Harvest" 2001, Bodegas Gutierrez de la Vega (Diva indeed!)About $20 100% Moscatel Romano (Muscat of Alexandnria) grown on Greco-Roman terraces overlooking the Mediterranean in the maritmie microclimate of Alicante's Marina...
