The FDA announced Thursday that there is no safe level of partially hydrogenated oils. The move — unusually bold for an agency that typically leaves additive safety to the private sector — is the first step in what could be a long road to removing trans fats, which are still widely used to improve the texture and shelf stability of processed foods like frosting, doughnuts and crackers. There is no safe level of consumption of artificial trans fats, Hamburg stressed. Consumer advocates are applauding the FDA’s actions.

These endless debates have allowed front-runners to stumble and dark horses to catch up — up to a point. Now as the primaries begin to come thick and fast, and debates wane, organization and money matter more and more, and that favors Romney. The front-runner is getting closer to, or may have exceeded, his goal of matching the combined vote tallies of the two major anti-Romney candidates; that said, the race is not over — or rather, in terms of primaries and delegate counts, it has hardly begun, especially in the age of disastrous gaffe or embarrassing disclosure. If Gingrich...

"If men through fear, fraud or mistake, should in terms renounce and give up any essential natural right, the eternal law of reason and the great end of society, would absolutely vacate such renunciation; the right to freedom being the gift of God Almighty, it is not in the power of Man to alienate this gift, and voluntarily become a slave." --John Adams If you have tired of seeing Barack Hussein Obama's mug everywhere during his first months in office, there is good reason. According to a study released by the Center for Media and Public Affairs, Obama received more...

--snip-- President Bush's broad re-election victory and Republican gains across the country reflect the fact that through a structural realignment, the GOP has now become the majority party in the country. Noted political scientist Walter Dean Burnham, the nation's leading theorist on realignment, says the 2004 election "consolidates" what began in 1994 when Republicans shattered the 40-year Democratic grip on Congress and statehouses. Since then, the GOP has held its gains, adding to them in 2002 and 2004. --snip-- Republicans are also riding the crest of a "big tent" movement that threatens to leave an increasingly ossified Democratic Party behind....
