    Eye drops sold at CVS, Target, Walmart and Rite Aid are being recalled after federal officials found “unsanitary conditions” where they were manufactured, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA said using the recalled eye drops, which are supposed to be sterile, can lead to eye infections or worsening eye problems.

    (WJW) – A nationwide recall of tainted eye drops is growing after bacterial and fungal contamination were found in sample tests, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Berne’s Whole Health Products is now voluntarily recalling all lots of the company’s MSM Drops 5% Solution, 15% Solution, Organic Castor Oil Eye Drops and MSM Mist 15% Solution. The FDA says Dr. Berne’s has received reports of “two adverse events” related to the recall and warns that the contamination could cause the loss of vision or a life-threatening infection

    (CNN) - Recalled eye drops have been linked to dozens of dangerous infections and at least one death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified 68 patients in 16 states with infections from Global Pharma Healthcare’s Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops. The artificial tears, distributed by Ezricare and Delsam Pharma, were first recalled in February. According to the CDC, patients were infected by a rare strain of drug-resistant bacteria never before reported in the U.S. Eight patients reported losing vision, and four had to have eyeballs surgically removed.     A Maryland mother was arrested Monday after she poisoned her young sons with eye drops, police in Pennsylvania said. State police in Gettysburg announced they had arrested 23-year-old Samantha Unger, of Thurmont. She allegedly told state police in Gettysburg that she put drops of Visine into water and juice for her 3-year-old and that her 1-year-old became sick by drinking them accidentally. Unger faces charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children. A police affidavit says both children became sick this spring, and the older boy required hospitalization.
