Eye drops sold at CVS, Target, Walmart and Rite Aid are being recalled after federal officials found “unsanitary conditions” where they were manufactured, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA said using the recalled eye drops, which are supposed to be sterile, can lead to eye infections or worsening eye problems.

Back in the late 70's, Visine was never recalled, and no one ever complained about eye damage.

The new eye dtops come from India.

If you wanted to sell them eyedrops that were made in the USA but which cost them an extra 5 cents/bottle, they would say NO.

Visine can kill you if you ingest it by mouth.

Hey, government:

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

It's getting hard to believe anything these people say anymore. Some bigwig at the FDA is probably shorting CVS, Target, Walmart and Rite Aid, or has a brother-in-law with a fledgling eye drop business who wants to get rid of the competition.

It’s crazy. It’s not a complicated formula. You just need to sterilize the factory (a “clean room”) and mixing and filling equipment. There is no good reason for it to become contaminated other than lazy workers or sloppy management.

Gee I wonder where they were made

An article a day or two previous indicated that they had traced the problem to a certain manufacturer in India.

Manufactured in India. Link below lists which products have been recalled with Lot Numbers.

“To date, Kilitch Healthcare India Limited has not received ANY reports of adverse events related to this recall.”

It’s a VOLUNTARY recall by the manufacturer...but don’t let that stop the panic and hand-wringing. *Rolleyes*

An easier solution—don’t use eye drops. Who needs them and why?

I had no idea even eyedrops were made overseas. Sheesh. It shouldn’t cost that much more to make them in the US with an almost fully automated factory and an analytical laboratory for testing. Very little human labor required, which can be done using clean suits.

The bottles themselves could become contaminated especially if they are made overseas as well. But there too, a modern-day filling line could sanitize them in-line. And I would think there is some kind of preservative in them - mostly because of potential contamination by the consumer.

Well, stoners may be the bigger market. I suppose some allergy sufferers. I don’t use them. My wife uses some kind of solution for her contact lenses. I don’t wear contacts.

The manufacturer, Kilitch Healthcare India Limited, distributed the eye drops under several different labels with expiration dates between November 2023 and December 2025, according to the FDA.
